Mr Cape.
You night want to think about water cooling. Those temps under load are kinda high. I bet under water that chip has alot more in it.
Motherboard: EVGA T1
CPU: E6600 L646G494 @ 3.7Ghz. 1:1 Ratio Linked & Synced Voltage 1.44 Load temps 45c

57c is not high for c2d in load. 60+c and thats starting get pretty high.
Yeah Orthos cranks the temps but that's nothing really. I never hit more than 61c in Orthos. My gaming load in Oblivion with highest settings/antiailiasing is 42c in RMClock. Core temp 40c.
There's a lot of differing opinions about what temps these conroes can handle but I'd cut it off if it got over say 64c. That's my assumed safe limit.
Yeah I noticed that too, there's a pretty steep rise in temps once you go over 1.32v or so. I guess it's part of the deal to get that last couple hundred mhz.
I can say that I'm very happy I bought this one instead of a random newer batch. Then again those GO chips are looking awesome now too. Haha, time marches on...

I did some browsing and did the screen cap in photoshop. It seemed fine, so fast, but I didn't want to try orthos.
Dropped back to 3.6 to do some work. Man running this speed really makes you realize when you make a user error, there's no pause. Just mouse clicking and tabbing around is so instantaneous like woah, where did that app go.

mrcape, I totaly forgot you had one of the F chips. Yes they do get warm mighty fast. Congrats on the 3.8Ghz on air. Amazing!!! :woot: I will be trying 3.8Ghz today hopefully. Will let you all know how it goes.

My L706A499 is @ 3.7 1.42 VCore. I am working on stability with my ram now to try get higher clocks.
You are using the badaxe while he is using a P35 board, so far there seems to be a big difference in the abilities of the P35 when it comes to OCing the E6600s in that it typically takes lower vcore to achieve the same OC. Though Spi times indicate the P35 not to be significantly (if any) faster than say a P965 it does seem to allow for lower voltages.
Today i got my new L709A964. It´s an funny one. I can boot with 3.6ghz and 1,3v but it isn´t primestable at 1,48v. Maybe it´s benchstable but first i want to get it primestable. Always if i start prime core 0 runs fine but core 1 makes trouble. But the temperature ist much better than the temperature of my L629B.
My 744G can even boot into windows at 3.8 at 1.45, but I can't get the damn thing to run at 3.6Ghz not even at 1.55 real vcore, temps go way up to 65°C now, so I lapped the CPU, to see if I can nibble some degrees off... I settled before at 3.4 due to temps...
At the moment running Intel TAT at 3200mhz at 1.35 Vcore both cores read 40°-43°C out under my thermalright Ultra 120. Will have to let the AS5 settle , then try more Vcore again and hopefully the lap job did something...
I have a very late E6600

It needed a lot more V to get benchable at this speed, but with H20 and a bit more juice I think this could be a 3.8 benchable one ;)

Chip is definately a volt hog
3.42 (380 x 9) @ 1.53v bios, 1.50v droop full load
VID=1.35v
ran 24hrs stable Orthos blend
runs Small FFT's at 55 C. with lapped tuniq and ihs.
idles @ 30/32 C.
Ok, I have 3.9GHz Benchmark stable, yet to prime it.
I have 3.8GHz prime stable with 1.57 REAL vcore under load. (same V as used to run 3.9GHz benchmarks)
I bought a 630F from Tank Guys, I just got it going today and it passed OCCT @ 3816 1.55 vcore. I have not got a chance to do much with it but it will run SuperPi @ 4Ghz and boot into windows but it take 1.65vcore
I never tried the Vcore higher then 1.55 on the 630F because on that rig I'm on air and temps were way up even though the Vid was lower ... so I sold it, I played with the 744G, also heating up like a madman over 3400mhz, so I lapped it and now it's 3600Mhz stable at 1.49 Bios setting which corresponds to 1.48 real volts on my P5K under load...
Gonna lap my 632A too and see i I can gain some degrees there...might hit the 4ghz barrier with some incredible luck....
Kallenator I have the same E6600 as you (L639F027). Unfortunately that CPU requires a lot of voltage :( I can't even boot it with 400x9 and now I'm working to have it stable at 355x9 :( Do you have any tips for that CPU?
Gaming Rig stable at 4G. Able to boot and play at 4.32G (9x480) but not Orthos Stable.

Are there any good 6600s still on the market? The ones with 1.23v base setting or just low temps?
I Just picked up a E6600 L701C566 @ Microcenter. Horrid.... I've got a decent water cooling setup and I gave up on this chip when it couldn't do 3.2Ghz stable @ 1.47v. Switched back to my wk 2006 27A that can do 3.5@ the same voltage.
Here is my L629F221 that I got from Tankguys. Finally got around to pushing it a little more.

Nice OC's everyone, I am still kicking it with my 3.5ghz
anyone have a L703 ? what kinda clocks you get
Well I thought I could add a little to the general knowledge base built on these chips here. I got a L712A416 from Newegg the other day. I had to throw a box together in a hurry so I didn't put it on SS to really give it a push, I have it on stock cooler in a closed case with poor ventillation (uGuru showing 38C System temps, heh, in a room that isn't hotter than 25C and that's overstating I think), mated with an Abit P35 and some GSkill 6400 GBHZ. Based on the environment it is in atm, I wouldn't say it is horrible at all, but I wouldn't say it is particularly good either. The stock cooler really falls on it's face pretty quickly I think, but I have 3.2GHz Orthos stable with 1.5V set Bios, 1.47V monitored idle, 1.44V monitored load with peak temps at 75C  , idle at 42C. That's as far as it'll be going until I do something better with the cooling but thought it could still be a decent point of reference here for others given it is in a pretty much worst-case install.
i have an L712A also, stepping 6-B2, i can get it stable at 3550 with an 8X multi, and 3508 with a 9X multi,(9x340) using 1.5v vcore..... im trying to squeeze a wee bit more out of it.
btw- im using danger den cpu waterblock and northbridge block.....
just popped in my L630F from TankGuys today...it's a 6-B2, stock vcore was 1.265 (as reported in the gigabyte bios). testing at stock vcore right now and it seems okay at 365x9. will keep you guys updated :D
well, didn't really bother to test how far i could get on stock vcore, i'm too lazy:p:
testing 500x7 at 1.375 vcore
everything is good so far, but damn this chip runs hot! it was around 58 C with my case closed and aroudn 52 C with side window off...i have a TR ultra-extreme w/ a coolermaster fan on it...2 120mm fans (1 intake 1 exhaust. both are coolermaster) and a 80mm fan near my hdds. i really need an s-flex and some better airflow =X
An update on my 744g that got 3600mhz after a lapping job, runs fab with good temps at 3600mhz at 1.49 volts under load on my P5K Dlx... tried to get 8 x 450 , damn no boot. My Striker can handle 450 easily with the other cpu, maybe I can get this hardnut cpu higher on the 680i with the watercooling... put it in, damn no boot at 450mhz, tried some other FSB to avoid the well known holes , thing doesn't boot over 437Mhz, no matter what setting or voltage...
First I thought I had a bad P5K mobo as I got stuck at around 435Mhz while everybody else was around 500FSB mark, now with the same 744G cpu in the Striker it performed the same way. To verify my thoughts I popped my 632a in the P5K DLx and bam it boots up to 475 as on the Striker... so conclusion I reached the FSB wall with the 744G at around 435-437Mhz....the lap job did improve temps and my total speed but this CPU has to go !!! and make place for a Xeon 3060 or the new 6850....
interesting about 744G having such a low fsb wall :(
mine seems to hit the wall @ 490 fsb. :( can't reach the sweet 500 spot.
hey guys
i have a question.. does any one here have a e6600 cpu that has a stepping L643G006 !!! i would love to know the theoretical oc that would be possible to achieve with that stepping..
Testing with my L630F
First off, this chip runs hot! I reseated the heatsink fan, and that has help my temps a bit but any vCore around 1.4v and above, it will hit 60 C+. As I said before, it seems that I can run 500 x 7 at 1.38125 vCore. I did some other tests, here are the results:
510 x 7 @ 1.4 vCore
440 x 8 @ 1.38125 vcore
520 x 7 @ 1.45 vCore
It seems that after 500 x 7, it takes quite a bit more amount of juice to power this baby. I am currently testing 450 x 8 @ 1.46 vCore. I will post more as I stumble across more.
Also, I am able to boot into windows above 520 x 7 @ 1.45 vCore, but I am not ORTHOS stable. Just a heads up.
plz check the IHS of your CPU mate, coudl be al apping job gives ya the edge on the temps and you can push it up to 3600mhz with less heat output... but I experienced the same issues with my 630F , one of the reasons I sold it....
Why don't you try 400 x 9 ?
I'm a bit too timid to try lapping my chip, never done a lapping job at all :p: However, I think I will end up lapping this TR-Ultra Extreme soon. As for the chip...I am able to boot in at 525x7 and I am able to run various tests with it. I am stable with SuperPi, 3DMark 06, and even a couple hours of intense gaming. However, I am still not ORTHOS stable though if I can keep going at 525x7 with my other stuff good, I don't think I care about ORTHOS:rolleyes:
Right now, I am testing 400x9, will keep you guys updated.
Thanks for the input!
well some users say Orthos has an error or bug and most prefer running dual prime's, I also run OCCT for an hour or 2 and then online gaming...
I always thought orthos was merely prime in a nice suit!
I have the same problems with Orthos :( Please use the newest Prime as it has multicore support :)
Nowdays , I got some E6600 for tests..
These results orthos stable (priority-9), voltage values after drop.
I used TT Sonic Tower@aircooling.

VCore - 1.44v
Definitely not ORTHOS or Prime stable (both crash within minutes) but it is gaming stable. I do have to drop down to 520 FSB to make it stable when I encode a VOB file into an AVI, but if I bump up the VCore a bit it is stable at 525.
Oh and the memory is actually PC2-8500 (1066) dunno why it's reporting PC2-6400:(
Hi all !!

I just recieved a new E6600 B# 3726A777. so far 3.6 @1.40V, 3.7@1.43, im gonna see what i can do with 1.55 im shooting for 4. I will post results soon.
E6600 (9*350MHz) 3,15GHz 1,55V inbox, L701C327, wall 395MHz :dammit:
UPDATE
The chip will boot @ 3.85 1.55, since I am on air I don't want to push the voltage. I dare 1.55 because my temps only get in the high 50's sometimes 60~61 for a few seconds. I was able to get 3.7 @ 1.45 for 3 hours before I called it a night. With the right cooling this chip could have more potential.
I had to RMA my second ultra yesterday because it would artifact after 30 min of CS:S @ stock. So my GTS is back in action, hopefully both my ultras will be back within 2 weeks for some serious fun.
I will push this chip until my Q arrives...... need to get my 2 old 6600's sold first. Thank god for EBAY.
I don't know what my batch is. I lapped it and forgot to look. I bought it from Newegg at the end of March if thats helps. I have been able to get 3.8GHz into windows but it is not stable. I am leery of increasing the voltage any further. I cannot get 500 FSB x 7 to post. Any thoughts. Right now I am at 400 x 9 at 1.5125v (1.50v actual). In Orthos #9 my temps are ~ 65....67C.

Anyone with L740A batch?
I have lapped mine (L632B) from ebay to 15 micron. I will post results watercooled under a D-Tek Fuzion on a Intel X975XBX2. As soon as I can get enough money to order more Tygon 3603 (to hook up my Swiftech MCW60 and lucite reservoir as well).
I got mine up to 3.7GHz 1.526V (orthos blend load), but it seems my storm isn't doing well, 63C max load with ambient around 15C is not even good, seems I'm up for a D-Tek Fusion next cause I really expect better temps know :D (especially after reading the first page here)
Thanks, I found the box.......My FPO/BATCH# L644G231. Is this a good batch?
I am now running the following as my experiment continues.
Asus P5B Deluxe
E6600 @ 3.40 Ghz.....377x9
4x1GB G.Skill 6400 HZ (4:5) 471Mhz 4-4-4-12
vMem: 2.25
vCore: 1.40
This is 9% faster in Super PI 32M than 400x9 (1:1)
Does anyone have any idea what the maximum voltage for 24/7 use. I noticed Intel has changed their 'Thermal Specification from 1.35v to 1.5v.
http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SL9ZL
I'm using 1.58V set in Bios, which is 1.51V real and everything is working fine since May 2007. If the chip will fail I will RMA it and will get the new one (I have 3 years warranty) or even exchange it for Q6600 G0 :) Basically if you are going to use your processor for more that 3 years keep the voltage in line with Intel specification :)
Anybody has oc results on E6600 L652B260?
