Crying fowl? How about my board not even being able to even boot with it connected? Not everyone here is a noob moron...

if you go on dfi's website and find the link to the bios. then just change the date and download. the file's there. :)
guys ok i have ask this a few times but with diffrent answers.
i order this board and its on its way.im also getting crucail balltix pc6400
so what chip should i get the e6420 or he e6600 is the e6600 worth the extra 40e.??
i will be overclocking and what you think will get me the highest clock.
Anyone try out the 424 bios yet? Fix sata cd rom issues w/raid? Wish these beta's had some sort of release notes.
Sticking it on the USB drive now...
Update:
-Boot an XP Pro SP2 DVD and an MCE 2005 CD from the SATA Optical in sig w/ RAID enabled!!
-No more hanging after AHCI "finding screen" when clearing CMOS
Not too shabby Oskar. :)
You mean the conflict with raid0 and sata dvdrw is now solved?
how do you guys learn of new bioses if they don't get posted on the dfi website and they turned off directory browsing?
Well, I have a silverstone OP750 and all mb connectors plugged in but my board keeps rebooting I cant oc at all on this board. I posted on DFIclub, I really dont feel like swapping out my PSU. Can this be fixed with a bios update?
I've been running mine with the 1000W OCZ psu. Tonight I'll try to pull my Zeus 850 off of the QuadGT and see what it does on the DFI board.

I'm still benching my newly acquired 6420 on my p5b to compare to the 6400 on the same board. So hopefully I'll be installing the dfi this weekend.. But it did boot up and did get into the bios. So I guess that's more than some achieved..
whoa my dfi came today!!! :):)
my other water parts aren't here yet though, but i guess I'm going to start dremeling my case. oh boy.
Just got my proc in today. slapped it on with the stock cooler, and I'm pretty much dead in the water with exception to the taunting red LED on the 965-S.
I'm gonna put a bit more sweat equity into this before I call 'shens and see about replacing this silverstone strider.
the 424 bios for me seems about the same as the last one the 418 that ive been running, nothing new or noteworthy (but i dont run raid and other stuff that people were having problems with), i am using the modded ones with the straps uncovered but none of them work like the 333 or 400 strap, the 250 strap works but its just like the 266 and i dont think it actually changes it
i could be wrong but none of my subtimings changed and sp1m was still the same time
Anyway to recover from a failed bios flash? Got my board today, was running fine @ 515FSB X 7. Decided to flash my bios using winflash. Had a friend around he was asking questions, hit the keyboard during the flash & the system froze. Now it won't post :(
thankfully dfi uses a socket for the chip so pop it out and hotflash it in another board
When I got home this evening I installed my Zeus 850 in the place of the OCZ ProXStream 1000W. I reinstalled XP with the bios that was released yesterday. RAID with a SATA optical drive is no longer an issue. Not only was the Zeus fully stable during the install but it's completely stable while the system is overclocked.

Doesn't it have to be another D965-S? Or can I use my RD600? I was thinking of trying this when I get home from work 2nite. I already spoke with DFI. Said they don't have bioses for this board, but may have one in for me tomorrow. There goes my weekend project if hot flashing in differnent board doesn't work. Awesome board though, 515 FSB wtih 1.35v NB right out the box. I might just order another from Newegg tomorrow since they're suppose to be instock. I can hot flash then for sure. I'm sure someone here will be willing to take the board off my hands after I successfully restore my bios chip:)
Is there anywhere that I can look up some information on the settings in the Genie BIOS? I've got my system overclocked a little past 70%, but there's a whole lot in the DRAM section and otherwise that I just don't understand. Is anyone writing a FAQ for this board?
I need part numbers of the ram sticks that work really well with this board.
Thanks
Try flashing with no parameters except the /F switch. Still may not work though since the two boards use different chips. One is a 49LF080A and the other is a 49LF008A.
can't seem to get it to work using f/ switch or not using f/switch. The utility is reading the current bios & not allowing the flash because the boards don't match I guess. I thought there was a way to force a flash regardless of boards matching perhaps I need an older AWDFLASH utility to do so.
I do it all the time using AWD873 flasher.
the p965 chip on mine is a l646a. not that new but compared to my other p965 boards, definitely the newest. hope the week 46 p965's weren't as bad as the week 46 conroes...

This link clearly shows the bios part number. I went to the bios savior site to check compatability with my pmc2 which worked in my nforce 2 and nforce4 boards which were 4Mb bios chips. This board has an 8Mb bios chip, and as far as I can tell uses a different type of bios savior. Check if the rd600 has an 8Mb flash rom ( u can cross reference the bios chip number at the bios savior site).
My e6600 does 8x450(3600mhz) stable but wont go past post screen @7x500(3500) is it my board or is it my cpu???
ppl..i have tried out maybe 10 conroes...none have been stable above 500fsb even with 6x multi and on boards proven capable of more with perfect ram...these conroes often have their own internal fsb walls...but i am working as hard as i can to get DFi to try and modify their bios to improve this by having the manual 333strap selection...
the one cpu i modded to 333fsb with bsel mods can now do over 500fsb easily...
these board can do 540 on 266 strap...if your ram can to..then the only thing that can wall is the cpu....ram settings are the only other possibility
Wow, I feel blessed then. :D (501 FSB) Best part...window's thinks I'm @ 4G, haha.
It's on several of the Rebels Haven BIOS Download pages. There is one for this board. Google is your friend:
http://www.google.com/search?q=rebel...hl=en&filter=0
i have no life  j/k heheh
anyways so i'm reading the thread guys and DFI is up to its old tricks.........picky with PSUs  that's a new one lol
ejga dinos po parih dneh odpiše ;)
down under :)
you guys all using the floppy connector? I really don't feel like it :(
i wasnt before but i am now, dont think i noticed too much of a difference
these boards are picky with ram also, ive been seeing people get better results with ddr2 667 ram then some higher speed more expensive stuff
just a idea if anyones having problems
THANK YOU. I understand the board doesn't have to be the same, nor the chipset. But do I have to use a board with an AWARD bios installed in order to be successful? I have an Asus P5W DH that has the exact same bios chip that I hotflashed previously, when the boards were not shipping with a conroe supported bios.
How does this board compare to the BX2 or is it too early to tell? I'm building a new system and was set on that board decided to come out. I've been hearing some stories about the boards being DOA now. As for DFI, it's way cheaper but since I'm a complete newb to overclocking let alone building a computer, the bios options are too much to handle so I really have no idea anymore. I'll be using a E6420 and G. Skill HZ if that helps any. If this is derailing this topic in any way then my bad on that.
Well...I could only get my BX2 up to 412ish and the DFI hit 500 wo/ pushing hard.
I think this is as high as I can go:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3.../P965-S-01.jpg
All voltages at stock except for:
CPU: 1.45v
NB: 1.35v
RAM: 2.10v
Can't seem to get my RAM stable at higher speeds or tighter timings even with more voltage. And my temps with a Tuniq aren't all that great (any recommendations on replacing the stock fan?) as it's starting to warm up in the midwest.
Either way I'm pretty happy as this same setup on a Infinity 975x could only hit 430FSB.
I'm gonna get air conditioning for this summer because I want to keep my overclocked speeds :D
I was able to hotflash the bios in a different board. Back up and running, & having fun:D

What the hell garbage is this?? I set the thing up. Then I goto flash 424 on there. It flashes successfully and says to remove disk and hit f1 to reboot. I do that and the son of a :banana::banana::banana::banana: never posts again. What!?!? I don't have anything else I could use to hotflash either. Damn it!
yo, that'd be unbe:banana::banana::banana::banana:inglievably appreciately mate. I'd gladly pay shipping and a bit more. I remember the days when I had a ton of motherboards to use and the ability to hotflash. It's a shame most boards now aren't socketed :(. Please pm me. I'd be happy to work out practically anything you want. (I'm a little inebriated but so it goes ;)). I remember reading about someone else recently who also had the same problem. I wonder what happened. I've never had a flash gone wrong unless it was when I tried to force flash something. The strange thing about thing one was that it didn't give any errors or say that anything was wrong at all. Everything went perfectly smooth until it asked me to reboot. 402 would work. I was trying to get 424 on there. Once again let me say that I really appreciate your help in this. Let me know and I'll send my chip out vs priority tomorrow. Guys like you make the community great :)
edit: chip's popped out :) It's kind of sad, seeing how 3 years ago, I had easily 3 boards that I could have used as candidates for hotflashing, but now I have no socketed boards left. The only old board I have is some dell one with a p3 1ghz and i820 camino chipset, but obviously that's dell and not socketed. Oh well. I don't blame it. It's serving me real good for the $20 I spent on it at a yardsale.
and I will say that this board has potential based off the limited testing I did have with it before I went and flashed it. Seems like 500fsb will require better northbridge cooling than what I'm giving it. Hell, even stock might be better than the mcw30 I have on it. Even with shimming around the chip, I can't get my mcw30 to get good contact evenly since the tubing is pulling to one side. Once I get it up and running, I might just revert back to my old trusty hr-05. That said, one thing that's different from this board from my p5b is that at 400fsb, running 4:5 requires more than just 1.25vmch for it to boot windows without giving corrupt file errors. Then again, that's a decent tradeoff for the ability to consistently warmboot 500fsb. And for the ability to do 515fsb, which my p5b wasn't able to do.
4:5 takes a lot of nb voltage with this board. It is definitely not optimized for that divider. On the other hand 500 fsb will run fine at 1:1 with hardly any increase to nb voltage.
With my mcw30 set up like this it is just about as solid as if it was bolted on.

cool, where'd you get those standoffs? The way I have mine right now, it kind of wobbles. And then if the system is on and I go to try and put pressure on it or rock it, it crashes on me. I'm getting about 40'c cpu and 50'c nb, whichever that sensor means, since iirc p965 doesn't have a onchip thermal sensor.
ewiz in stock again, $149.35 before shipping. It appears new shipment coming.
If you guys used the Winflash DFI mentions you'd have no problem with BIOS flashes.
Nemesis, try this out. Kinda interested if a 6400 can do 2:3 @ 400FSB

I think I'll buy another & keep whichever clocks the best. Anyone know what this month's $5 off coupon code is?
Very fast 1M GHZ, what memory you used?
What this board can do with quads?
Back in stock on ewiz for you guys.
Something isn't making good contact. Every one of these boards I've seen the NB reported temps run mid to high 30's with stock volts and heatsink with the addition of a fan. When the NB is put under water the reported temps drop below ambient. So it appears the the sensor does react to NB temps and also reads low.
The standoffs are just some that I had laying around for circuit board mounting. You should be able to buy them any place that sells electronic components. 15 for a $1.00 or something like that.
I mounted the MCW30 without tubing attached. Milled two small aluminum blocks so their height was just short of the distance between the board and the bottom of the mounting plate. I used shim stock to fill in the gap between the blocks and plate. I took a measurement of each block with the shim stock in place, added the two measurements together and divided by two. I milled the standoffs to match this measurement. Reamed the holes and tapped them for 6-32 screws. It was a lot quicker to do then it sounds.
wonder why ewiz keeps getting stock before anyone else..ie Newegg
Wow they stopped the $149 Free ship deal:confused:
***Edit Nevermind Out of Stock***
I managed to get one ordered from ewiz this morning and I had a quick question about a good heatsink. I saw a couple mentions of this board flexing with heavier heatsinks due to it being 4-layer PCB. Anyone having issues so far with something like the Thermalright ultra-120+?
Just get a backplate and you won't have to worry at all. I had a water block hard mounted and it didn't flex the board much at all.
I ordered this morning....
Just got a call saying they're sorry, but it's out of stock until Mid-May. I REALLY hate these companies that do this.
I understand that it's out of stock, but having the nerve to charge my credit card before it's even verified to be in stock is a trick. Officially done with ewiz. I'd rather buy an ECS motherboard without any overclocking options than shop at ewiz again.
-Collin-
Ya...I'm having problems with ewiz also. I ordered the board a few hours before the price drop and free shipping and now they don't want to credit to me. Few hour difference and they are anal....
I'm with you Collin. Done with ewiz. My only second order there and most likely the last.
Yeah...I wouldn't say they're horrible...they just aren't anything close to Newegg's customer service.
-Collin-
too bad newegg cant keep them in stock lol.
they had to cancel my order... OOS... = (
I guess I'm keeping my Quad GT!
newegg has 19 in stock
oh snap I got one. Thanks for the tip!
Hi everyone, i am getting a c2d e6600 soon just like to find out is it worth getting this board over the asus commando/p5be + or gigabyte dq6/ds4 which i have shortlisted? Could any users give some comments?
Thnx for the fast response burningrave. Suggestion noted.
Anyone using 4 x 1GB ram on the P965-S? if so what ram you using etc.
I am using 4x1gb Mushkin redlines pc1000 highest stable so far on this board 490fsb 1:1, they did 522 on my p5b but i need to tweek them on this board.
Mem is set at 2.1 these sticks like to be undervolted. Timings 4-4-4-9. bandwith in much improved over my P5b , but so far I cant run as high.
I havent installed my board yet and I'm not sure which FSB I will use. But i'll do tests at >500fsb
Just nabbed another DFI P965-S from newegg:D
Hey guys, I just got my P965-S today and I was wondering if anyone could point me towards a thread on this forum or a different forum that has a good guide for tweaking the BIOS on this board. This is my first DFI motherboard and, as I expected, all the options are a bit overwhelming. I was wondering if there are any particular options in the BIOS that I should change before I get going (Options that are specific to this board). And what would you guys recommend is the best BIOS so far?
Thanks to anyone who can help me out, really appreciate it.
