“Coldboot” only when update the bios, or reset, this only happens a time after having done some thing of these.

Is the provided sound card any good?
have you got ram speed set to spd or manually, check the latencies...
I managed to boot at 443. Vdimm and vcore needs to be a little higher than some other boards to get the mobo to boot at high fsb. Unfortunatley I'm now using P5WDG2 Pro, so I can't give you bios screenshots. Also make sure chipset coltage is around 1.9v or more initially and has a fan blowing over it to keep it cool (helps stability). You can remove the 'MAX' plate from the chipset heatsink, so that a fan blows down into the fins, otherwise the plate blocks the air flow...

Raja
I had set my ram manually @ 4-4-4-12, & 1066 strap. I think I even set the chipset to 2.0v @ one point. Temps all @ or below 40'c. Since this board won't set voltage below 1.35v and won't display anything lower, I have to find a new max default volts overclock. My chipset seems weak or requires more volts at higher FSB's than the P5W. For example 367FSB & all vcore setings at auto was my stock Overclock. This board requires 1.60v mch to be set or it fails orthos in seconds. Currently running 2.0vdmm 1.60v mch & 1.35vcore for 3.4ghz so far orthos stable. I love the way the boarld looks inside my case. The blue LEDS go well with the NZXT Lexa blue case fans & blue razor mouse. I'm just not sure of the audio. Looks as though this will be a solid game platform if the audio holds up.Quote:

UPDATE: Okay now I seemed to have gotten rid of the "CPU isn't workable, or has changed message" even though I didn't even intend that what I did would solve it. I was getting annoyed with the blinking LED's so I rebooted, went into BIOS and set LED to "ALL ON" instead of "Mode 1" which it was previously on, saved settings, and voila message is gone. Rebooted again to make sure I wasn't seeing things, and yep the message is gone. Strange board this is. As far as messing with ram timings, I'm not going to mess around anymore since I'm tired, and pretty light headed (seeing that message about my cpu the first time almost made me faint).
Edit: First message given was "CMOS checksum error, loading defaults" and then "CPU isn't workable, or has changed" every other boot after the first. Now updated to the Beta 12 Bios, and the "CMOS checksum error, loading defaults" came up again, haven't rebooted yet so not sure if the second message shows up. Also ram is still at 667.
Luckily my board isn't DOA, but it gives me a message "CPU isn't workable, or has changed" or something like that, but it still boots into Windows after I press F1, and core temp is reading 34C on both cores... my ram has been slowed down to 667 though, its G.Skill DDR2-800 2Gb dual channel PK series. Also I didn't do a fresh install of XP, just booted it up as if it was still installed when I had the Badaxe in the rig. Lastly I didn't update the BIOS to that Beta 12 yet... but wtf is up with that CPU not workable message?
Another thing, theres a red LED lit up next to the IDE port, also took some pics of the message but can't find the damn usb cable... but the code it also gave was "7F" if that gives more clues... computer seems fine, hopefully theres no issue, just trying to get XP activated though it was already... I :banana::banana::banana:en hate Msft.
My board - retail with beta bios not have problem with 415x9 - 1.75 vmch. I used E6600 & Crucial Ballistix 667MHz, anything is ok. Testing in 3D :)
@TicTac - this beta bios posted on delux change problem with 4:5 on 400MHz FSB ?
Update : 420x9 still 1.75vmch
Thanks, but you know I cannot mod my board, well, not the blue one anyway. ;)Quote:

The mainboard is very good but the problem is the multiplier look at 11 only.
roro:doesen't cpu-z krystal allow you higher multi settings?
So Abit says the board delivers 2.0v on the mch and it's actually 1.85v real?
Hmmm.
Yeah the boards nice an all but it certainly doesn't clock better the p5w dh. On the other hand I lost 3 mhz on my max 3DMark stable/Gaming overclock using the board so it's not really a big deal. I'm gonna stick with it as far as my gamer goes. It looks nice in the case. Unfortunately I'm gonna loose 300 mhz on my everyday overclock because the board won't due 3.6ghz orthos stable @ the same settings the P5W DH will & it runs alot warmer trying.Quote:

I would not purchase this board over a P5W DH with 1.85v mch. The Asus consistently overclocks better under different users, the layout is much better and allows you to use your own sound card, and the board is packed with many more overall features.Quote:

Best overall feature in my opinion is the uGuru Utility which allows you to set overclock presets in windows for some quick benching. Solid board to build a 400-420 FSB system although 420 FSB requires me to set 1.95v mch in bios.
Did you turn off eist/speedstep. My board was doing the same till i figured out that the option was in cpu feature in the advanced bios menu. After that i found the droop to be very minimal. I then switched my old psu for the silencer 750 and now my board seems to overvolt.Quote:

Yea its kind of hidden. I went with this board primarily because of how solid the vcore is and the bonus of not having the board power down my psu and hard drives every time it reboots like the asus boards. The p5b deluxe was drooping damn near .7 volts while under load. Definately not acceptable.Quote:

So adding a fan to the northbridge helped a bit huh? IIRC someone else gained like 10Mhz fsb just by using as5 on it. I wonder how water would wake up the chipset... REALLLLLY considering this board for a 6600 MAYBE 6700 setup, nice and watercooled.
Nemesis I missed it before, thats a nice overclock on the 6600
i have this board coming in on Friday so i need to prepare. Can someone give me a quick rundown on the best bios to start with? Any little tricks in the bios i need to know before i start cranking away at my E6600? Im using the DFI Infinity board for the time being but am pretty disappointed in not being able to reach 400+ FSB. Im crossing my fingers that my first Abit board wont disappoint.
As asked earlier, has anyone put some AS5 on the northbridge? Replacing the stock goop on my DFI with AS5 netted a 22C drop in temps so i suggest someone give it a try.
start with this bios. It's the 1.2 bios, the link is direct to abit ftp so it may be a bit slow. Set your timings manually under chipset settings. Under the guru section turn off all the cpu options like speed step etc. Your mch voltage will need to be set higher than with the P5W DH for anything above 350 FSB. Personally you probably should set bios to stock or moderate overclock and use gURU in windows to test overclocking. Thats what I like best about the board, I can play around with differnt overclocks without going into the bios and making changes each time. Good luck:)Quote:

i have installed the board yesterday and there is a problem that i cant solve.
if i enable "raid" by the four satas ICRH7, save bios and the reboot if whe go again to bios and try to enter in Uguru menu the systems freezes completly,
the other problem is that if i dont go to bios after the reboot and simply try to configure the raid it gives me error and dont let enter the ICHR7 raid bios by pressing ther normal control+I
anyone have the same problema?
the solution was installing windows in single disk.
thanks
Dumb question,
My psu has two lines; one that says cpu1 and one that says cpu2 that are both 4pin, would it be proper to plug them into the 8 pin connector up top?

Notice how it doesnt say crossfire on that bridge at all. Thats because it isnt for crossfire. Also, they cant say SLi on it because the support is not official.
Just in case you missed this in a previous post, the bridge is for unoffical sli support. Here's my previous screen shot of my highest 3DMark 06 stable overclock.Quote:

BTW - One of the negatives for me on this board was the fact that getting a PCI sounds card in the mix with two video cards isn't going to happen. Abit is using the same onboard sound as Asus uses in its 975 mobos. Here's what Anandtech had to say about Realtek ALC882M when reviewing the Asus P5WD2-E Premium:
In the on-board audio area, this board has an excellent implementation of the Realtek ALC882M High Definition Audio Codec. The software provided has Jack-Sensing, S/PDIF Out support, interrupt capability, and Dolby Master Studio support. The ALC882M will encode digital audio contents to real-time Dolby Digital streams for pass through via the S/PDIF ports to an AC-3 decoder for playback. The audio output of this codec in the music, video, and gaming areas is very good while performance in certain games has improved tremendously with the R1.29 driver release. If you plan on playing on-line action type titles, we highly suggest a dedicated sound card at this time, but the onboard capabilities of the ALC882M will satisfy the majority of users.
Anyone else care to comment about the sound on this mobo? Does the Abit version enjoy any advantage becuase their sound chip is on the PCI-E bus vs. Asus which is right on the mobo? None right?
Well it's red and if you ask me that's for ATI only :D
I'm currently limited to the provided sound card with my configuration. I have an aging set of logitech Z680 speakers which has 2 digital inputs for use with its built in digital decoder. The sound card is decent for movies though I have yet to play any dvd that doesn't have DTS audio. Music was okay, but my biggest complaint is the noticable difference in games like quake. Fear sounded much better than quake during expolsions etc., but still lacking compared to the audigy 2 platnium I'd been using. I also purchased the guru panel. Its just under $25 shipped from newegg & I feel it should have been included with this board when the price was more than the $219 I paid. Its a sweet looking board, gonna replace the thermal paste tonight & add some fans to try to get 450Mhz out of this board. With all this rambling I forgot to just plain say, I don't like the onboard sound.Quote:

I found both setups to be good enough for my ears, though when i hook up my high end audio i really start to lean hard on the audigy.

This is a little off topic for this thread, and someone can correct me if I am wrong but This memory will give the corsair 6400c3 a run for the money right? Ok back on point.
