sorry, but all of the C2D boards have their issues. I'd recommend just being patient. DFI may or may not give some love to this board, but the RD600 isnt far off. My plan is to just sit tight, let this board's BIOS's mature a bit, and keep an eye on RD600.
on the contrary, i think the P5B deluxe and the P5W DH are both terrific issue free conroe boards. Certainly every board has quirks, but i dont really see much left to be desired on the P5b, other then manual strap selection, i would sell for $165, unless they get a magic bios for this board the value will decrease even more.

i really have trouble with overclocking with this board. i got to 333 fsb, and it's perfectly stable and the comp can work for weeks with full load without crashes, but when i restart it, for some reason it doesn't post sometimes, or it takes a while for it to post, or when it posts, it posts a bit acwardly(not a usual stock post), or it posts at stock FSB(but all other changes which i made in the bios remain).

The error on my part was buying the board! That board BSoD on me often at a lot less FSB than the DFI, which never happens , it has it's problems but BSoD is not one of them. If you think the BadAxe rev.304 is a better tweaking/OC'ing mobo imho you're badly mistaken. Even people from Intel will admit that the DFI is a better OC'ing mobo than the rev.304. You need to do some hard modding on that mobo to be able to get high OC's. My two cents.

Hmmm I have to disagree with you bro. I still have faith in DFI's future bios releases coz remember you had your PD930 running at 4.5Ghz or more am I right? Let us wait till DFI is able to figure out the issues bugging their recent bioses for this mobo. Imho stability is still key despite lack of FSB. My DFI 975X/G is stable as hell so I don't think I have the right to complain unless I have very high OC expectations like you. Personally, I would go for Asus but definitely not Gigabyte since they have had their share of busted mobos at least from my recent memory not to mention poor distro support at least from where we are. ;Quote:

Yeah, in our area mobo availability is still scarce coz from what I've been gathering from local distros they're playing safe as far as releasing mobos for Core 2 Duo. Did you notice how many entry-level mobos are available now in the market? Most of them are ATI X200's, Via's, Intel 945P based chipsets which is a waste of money imho. Don't get me wrong here, I might change mobo too I'm just waiting for some mobos to become available here without waiting for 30-45 days.Quote:

Cold boots. Gotta turn off full screen logo & watch everytime i boot to see what fsb its booting at. Got oc failed control set to 1mhz & it defaults to stock fsb sometimes. Wasn't having these issues till i tried betas. Was rock solid stable on 0731 before.Quote:

Landparty nforce 590 has been postBoned for 2-3 months. I had been reading that the 590 was a POS for Intel overclocks.
DFI is waiting for the revised model of the 590.
guys give the 615 bios a go! mine's pretty stable so far
Some of the things i changed in the bios:
Execute Disable Bit - Enable
SLP_S4# Assert Bandwidth - 1 to 2 (i think this is the most important of all)
Video Bios - Disabled
Memory Hole - Disabled
Peg Force X1 - Disabled

Some notes about my new build:
0731 is stable for me at 356fsb. Any higher and I can't post.
0830 hung when I tried 360 and 365, so I'm not sure how much help it is for me. I also have to admit that many of the new ram settings make my head spin. The loss of the oc fail is also quite disappointing. Hopefully there will be a new release soon (a universal feeling in this thread, it appears)
Under 0731, I didn't have any 'cold boot' problems (so I wasn't even sure what it was). Under 0830, I did have some beeping and lockup on reboot so I assume that's what we're talking about...
@ Dax, what fsb are you able to hit with the 0615? Maybe I should give that a shot. In the meantime, I'm back to the stability of 0731 @ 356

i don't seem to have cold boot issues unless I'm aiming for really tight RAM performance, and well that might just be normall OCing bootup problems.
Here's something I found at DFISTREET, try setting ram to manual, but set all timings apart from the divider to manual (533 divider for 390fsb and 400 divider for 400fsb), set drive all strengths to 3, you should be able to hit 390+ then with the right vcore...

UPDATE: Re-flashed to 0830, set ram divider to 533, all other settings to auto in ram except increased all drive strengths to 3x. After a few tries, it booted at 360! That's a first for my board and I'll keep at it to see where I end up. cpu-z reports ram @ 361, 1:1, 5-5-5-15-20
try turning off your pc for 5min then power back on. see if it cold boots
My cold boot problems on 0731 are getting ridiculous, and I only have the system clocked to 320FSB still. I am also getting random blue screens like once every couple of days, though I am not sure why. I think a couple of them were due to the onboard sound, so I updated the realtek driver (no I am not going to buy a pci sound card) but I got one today even with the updated driver, but I was in the middle of something and lost about 10 minutes of my work since my last save so I was too pissed to bother looking at what the blue screen said.
I am getting a little miffed at DFI's lack of support for this board. If they hadn't put out beta BIOS it would be one thing but they did several weeks ago and they should have ironed out all the bugs by now >:(
Well, anything at or over 365 still won't post, so I managed to squeeze out another 5mhz fsb with 0830 thus far... not really what I was hoping for. I haven't run Orthos, but I have 2 clients running F@H and its just fine @ 51/52C @ 100% CPUsage

Alright, I'll give that a shot. I'm having stability problems even at 360 though. Orthos Gromacs runs fine @ 59/58c per core temp. Super_pi_mod works @ 1m but breaks on 4m and 8m ("not exact in round"). Running 5-5-5-15 @ 451mhz (4:5) and 3248ghz (360fsb in bios/361 per smartguardian). 1.42v to cpu, 2.14v to mem, 1.74 to nb. 46c idle.
I'm also having problems booting up although it seems like 'restarts' from windows work mostly okay once things are going.
crank up your NB volts to 1.75, either bump up your memory volts or use a lower divider and then try again.
im also running the 4:5 divider.
i dont have problems rebooting too.. it's when you cut off the power that things start to go wrong haha

Right Guys, i think i've sorted my cold boots, but its 2 early 2 say for sure. No cold boot prob for 2 days (5-6 starts).

It pisses me off to say this but i am going to hold onto to this board until i see what the RD600 from DFI is like. I hate them for the lack of support for this board but I'm not going to not buy the RD600 if its as good as people claim it is.
One thing for sure though if they cant deliver with this RD600 board my view of DFI will be forever tarnished.
Why dont they just release a new bios for this thing. It is turning so many people off buying their products they must see that.
Well the blue screen happened again, this time I made sure I saw where the problem was and it said serial.sys. Now I had both my unused serial ports disabled in BIOS, wonder if that is what caused it. Not sure why it would though, if its disabled in BIOS windows shouldn't see it. Stil gettin cold boots, also got a fcuked up issue: pc posts ok showing 360fsb, but in windows when i check with cpu-z i'm at 266fsb. It takes a cmos clear & reset oc to sort it out. Any1 any ideas?

well i can't say if this new 9/13 is better or worse to overclock but with me it really help to use lower volts with cpu. 8/30 i had to use 1.43v with 350x10 but now 1.39v is no problem :)

quick orthos with 3.6ghz and 1.43v seemed to be stable so i went to 3.75ghz@1.47v and lowered the ram ratio from 4:5 to 1:1, it booted fine to windows but orthos ran only for 2mins then tried to restart but it crashed and wouldn't boot at all before i cleared cmos from mobo >_< and one strange thing is that the power led in my case wont shut down anymore at all until i unplug cord from psu and now when i boot from total shut down it blinks for about 10seconds O_O
Tried the 0913 bios for the last while & had no luck with it. Couldn't get 360fsb to pass orthos, it kept crashing & i had the same issue as you: that it wouldn't post after crashing. Took cmos clear to sort it out. Tried everything.......running ram at 1:1 with loose timings, upping voltage etc. IMO this new beta is the worst oc'er i've come across. Its very buggy. I'm back on 0731 now.
BTW, Dfi have confirmed to me that there are parts of 0830 that overwrite 0731, that don't rewrite when you flash back to 0731, which might cause the issues i've been having. This is their email:

I have done a bit of checking and have determined that when updating to the 0830 version certain areas of the DMI are overwritten, when flashing back to the 0731 they are not. Try reflashing the BIOS in DOS mode (not thru windows or a windows DOS session) with the 0731 version. This time however type in the following at the A: "awdflash 97TID731.bin /f/cc/nbl/qi" (Without quotation marks of course). The extra switches will then "format" the chip and allow the DMI to be rewritten in accordance with the 0731 BIOS. Of course I have not had any problems with "cold boot" either way so I can't say if this will help for sure, but it should get rid of any residual traces of 0830 and is worth a try. Let me know if it helps.

I was getting that same issue, the failed overclock would kick in after it wouldn't post on the first boot, knocking me down by 5Mhz in post but then in windows CPU-Z showed no overclock at all. A simple reset of the system and going into BIOS and upping it back to 320 fixed that.Quote:

Very stable now on 0731 @ 360fsb after doing the "format before flash" Dfi advised me on (posted above). Give it a try. It seems to work. Might try 0913 later, had issues with it earlier today, but now that i know how to format before flashing its prob worth tryin again.
i just flashed to 913. At first it wouldnt post when i tried to change some options from default. I recleared the CMOS and did all my basic changes first, then F10'ed and let it post. Then i went back in the bios and dialed in my overclock. I find that this board prefers it this way and it worked just fine. The weirdest part is when i booted into windows my windows "Theme" had changed. LOL, never expected that one!

Well decided to finally give one of these beta bios a shot. 0913, works pretty damn nice overclock wise. Currently running 366x9 on the 667div with Vcore=1.37V (+87.5mV).
Its running pretty stable right now, but I worry about my temps a bit. Idle CPU is like 50C (coretemp), under orthos{blend} load it can go up to 63-65C(coretemp) and the northbridge gets up to 64C(ITE SG) as well under orthos. Probably going to have to get that NB cooler, but there isn't much I can do for the CPU, I've already remounted it and was very careful about it, should be getting the best contact I can possibly get.
Unfortunately the cold boot problem still persists. I can get around it by waiting a few seconds after I realize it isn't going to post and then hit the reset button. That is good enough for now, but if they don't fix that in the next 1-2 bios releases (beta or official) this board is going up for sale. I don't mind the low overclock, actually I can't find a use for that speed unless I am using my work physics sim, but the no cold booting is annoying.

Well, so far I've gotten from 360 all the way up to 365 on the new bios (0913). 370 will not post.
I used winflash since my floppy drive seems fried and I was too lazy to pull one from another machine. Everything seem a-okay. Of course I haven't tried to go back to an older bios, so I'm not sure how well it will work.

well well it seems the fun time is over for me :( just booted up the comp and noticed that it didn't detect my lan at all, couple restarts and still nothing...so then i just throw one pci card in and power it up and now i don't even get picture O_O no post no nothing just fans start spinning but that's it, cleared cmos but still it stays silence...

Definitely this board needs tons of nerves. Lot of patience is needed if you wanna rich some higher FSB frequency. I just received board with 0731 and it was not possible to boot system over FSB=365MHz. I flash 0913 and mainboard start to improve FSB speed. No mods, Vcore is 1.48, CPU temp is 51 C, air cooling (Zalman 7700CU). Again, I hit the FSB wall at 415MHz, than try Clock Gen and get 2MHz more. I need more time to make some additional benches. I faced several times cold boot but only in high steps O/C attempt (10MHz step). Once I reached FSB=415 I didn’t encounter any cold boot.
Yeah small steps are a must.
What strengths do you have set in bios. I am experimenting with them at the moment. But the booting is giving me the :banana::banana::banana::banana:s. It boots one out of thirty times but when it boots its rock stable.
well my mobo is alive again \o/ got it to boot up nicely this morning without lan of course and i knew it had to do something with 9/13 bios so i just flashed it back to 8/30 and lan is back wuhuuu.
and with OC i think i'm at my limit and i mean MY limit cause everything over 350fsb is pain in the ass to get stable so i'm just gonna stay at 350 and be happy about it.
so here is my final results with this mobo:

s-ata locked @100mhz
cpu voltage: 1,39v
ram voltage: 2.2v
nb voltage 1.75v
ram speed is @667mhz and strengths are 3x everything else is "auto" and with that i get 5-5-5-15.
surprise surprise no lan today >_< oc or no oc it makes no difference, what could it be O_o
Did you reflash back to 830 with the settings that colfin listed above? If not, try that.

I may be wrong, but from what I understood those switches should be used any time you are rolling back a bios, just to be safe.

RGone posted it on dfi forum. Didn't sort my cold boots.
BTW i had warm boot issues with 913 :confused: I could boot cold but couldn't f10 save in bios or restart windows without pc hanging. When i powered off for a few mins, it booted fine. Back on 731 & cold boots. This $hits got my head wrecked.
