and yeah i can try that

changed it to 5-4-4-9 dont have the patience to go lower lol
You were using 3:5 ratio there. What's the maximum FSB at 1:1? Can you do more than 400?
at 3.5GHz which fsb is 250 i can do 1GHz like my sig

there after 1 min of rebooting n failure to boot i think 4-4-4-9 is the lowest i can boot

and felix just sent me memset 965:
http://img273.imageshack.us/img273/5559/shot0002wp3.jpg
3-3-3-7 is the lowest i can set maybe more voltage :X
felix u rock
wow man you seriously are smoking some shyat lol j/k thats way off man, that conroe will smoke anything especially a 920 @ 3.8Quote:

it beats my 955 XE @ 4.5ghz and my conroe is only at 3.6ghz. and mind you that 955 Xe is dualcore AND hyper threading.
and phosphate, you dont know how to apply thermal paste ? ok this is going to be a long night...
first and foremost throw away that crap stock heatsink. its not good for anything other than a paperweight.
take a razor and remove that old thermal pad crap.
take some lighterfluid or something and rub off any remaining goo, dont leave ANY on it.
get some good thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5 please.
take and put a small tab on your cpu. by small i mean maybe a 1/8th x 1/8th inch blob it dont take much
take the ehatsink and set it on the cpu and press down firmly, DO NOT WIGGLE OR MOVE THE HEATSINK AROUND very much,
with your other hand clip down the retention clips so the heatsink remains.
plug everything in and away you go.
He talk about tighter timing of the memory, not cpu raw power.. read ! :stick: :slap: :p:Quote:

F3 official bios available here :
http://europe.giga-byte.com/FileList...965pds3_f3.exe
I can't test it for the moment, i'm working on another platform.
Waiting for your results.
yeah ps i already have F3 its much better control over PSU, and also if it fails to boot it just shutdown PSU n restart at stock speed which is nice cuz in F2 i gotta cleasr CMOS then OC all over again
You mean CPU right, not PSU :stick:Quote:

Oh right....this problem occurs in the P5W DH as well :(Quote:

The PSU temporarily shutting down is not a problem per se. More of an annoyance. The Bad Axe sometimes does it and so does the P5WD2. I think that's just the way the 975X chipset works. I don't know if it does it on the DFI Infinity too.
crap does the DS3 shut off when you exit the bios or reboot windows also when the FSB is above 320mhz ?
please no.... that is so annoying and not good for the hardware.
its not allowing the hardware to properly shut down.
Someone over newegg reported this "problem" yes.Quote:

No cons as far as 965 goes and great results so far. We'll see once the Retail procs come.
An E6300 would kick arse on this board.
Does anyone have any volt mods for this board?
I want to do atleast VDimm and VGMCH to this board...
its great as is... but it needs alittle more.
What's the story about having the reboot for every single change you make in the bios (I was looking at that ASUS vs DS6 vs Bad Axe thread).
Is the DS3 doing that too or can I make more than one change without having to reboot for each one?
I'm assuming this is a bios related issue and will be resolved, perhaps people who own said mobo could email Gigabyte and list their problems so as bios updates can be issued?
I dont know who told you that...
I been making 5-6 changes in bios each time and it reboots and all that just fine.
I just got the board this afternoon however... so I dont know of any real quirks in the board yet other then...
you cannot set the Tras Lower then 9 for some reason (Bios F1 and F3)
and, you can't set ras to cas 2 or TRP 2.
all of these settings work in bios, but get into windows and your settings are always cas 3-3-3-9 at the lowest.
Has anyone been able to OC a conroe with the 4MB cache yet on this ds3 board? Will it run stable 24/7 @ 400mhz 1:1 on any of the 4MB chips such as E6600?
read the thread please your question has been asnwered several times already.
yes read thru all 18 pages lol.
the answer is yes. but the 2mb cahce cpu's "seem" to be clocking better.
or have i even misunderstood things.
400fsb is nothing for this board.
mine arrives today and i will be posting back with the results tonight.
i have the Step 5 E6600 ES.
im gunna be VERY VERY angry if i cant get over 400 fsb.
FANTASTIC! Looking forward to your results!Quote:

I got mine today and its "cheap looking" to say the least - hopefully it performs well :)
wow they dont give you ANYTHING with this board holy poo..
1 ide cable and 1 floppy and I/O shield thats it. wow..
and where is the bios chip,, i looked over the baord and didnt even see one.
No SATA cables? It's supposed to come with them:Quote:

The bios are some new type i've never seen before:
http://www.hardwarezone.com/img/data..._expansion.jpg
It say's main bios and bp bios, they are not standard bios chips as i've seen them. Perhaps these are the new NAND flash chips?
got mine yesterday... ordered a pentium d 805 to hold me over till e6600 comes in. I'll have it on friday.
what do you think i could get the 805 up to with this board and a zalman 9500? I was thinking between 3.6 and 3.8GHz
i wonder what i can get my Celeron D 326 to overclock to. Maybe like 3.6ghz
Yeah I bought one of those for under $40 shipped on ebay. Its crazy to me how cheap those things are.Quote:

Hmm this mobo isn't for me unfortunately.
I'm sorry but one IDE connector is not enough and if it only has one PCI-E x16 slot then why are there only 2 PCI slots? I would have expected three.
Anyway I'm looking for a low to mid board with 1 x PCI-E x16 and 3 PCI slots and minimum two IDE connectors (I have 4 DVD writers).
Are there any good "budget" boards or should I wait?
Mine came with sata orange sata cables.Quote:

Sadly, you won't find any 975X "value" board. (under $200)
P5B will have 1 PCI-X and 3 PCI, but 1 IDE. Will be available early next week.
it deos h ave 3 pciQuote:

To all those with their new DS3's (especially lestat):
Stop talkin' and get clockin'!!!!!!!!! I wanna see some results :)
Looking closely at the pic of the DS3 I notice the power connector for the CPU is located at the top of the board. This might be a no-go for people who have a case like mine (Antec P180) which has the PSU located at the bottom of the case, as the cable will not be able to reach that far up.
ok guys she booted up fine with the F1 bios
1)
how the frick do you use the intel raid or is there only gigabyte raid ?
2)
when updating the bios via q-flash it doesnt do anything
3)
when updating the bios via dos it says bios file size error.... whats wrong ?
someone help me out.
i need the raid,, i mean im not letting my raptors go to waste...
I need a SM bus controller driver for my DS3. Googled and all that's there is old stuff. Nothing on Giga's site.
Any help?
its gotta be on the cd.Quote:

holy crap that NB heatsink gets hotter than hades even on auto... wow wtf..
man i gotta pull that thing off and put on some AS5
got my little fan hotglued to it now lol.
has anyone documented what the voltage increases are in the bios since they only show +.02 03 04 etc etc.
id really like to know wtf voltages i am setting...

Got my DS3 going tonight with my BS temp celeron. For some reason I can't get CPUZ to show me what speed memory is running no matter what divider I set (any ideas)? I am coming from AMD so this is a bit different. Also, do you need to update the bios from DOS? getting error from win with .bat file. Also, wtf - this celeron is running HOT! like 60c idle.. is this normal for these?
o it does? does it have a windows overclocking utility and temp monitor? or do we have to use 3rd party ones.Quote:

ok wth.... you cant set the ram divider below 1:1 ????? wth ?
im up to 375 FSB 1:1 default/auto on everything. oops cpu is 1.3v cuz i wanted to keep the voltage on the cpu up a little more than everything else so if it puked out i knew that the cpu wasnt the issue.
nothing wrong with 1:1 if your ram can handle it.. and if you are able to actually see what voltages your setting.
i dont like this bios already guys.. no way to see what voltages your using.
im going to peak my ram way before the FSB i think.. this is just elcheapo DDR667. and it doesnt like anything over 2.05v 2.1v gives memtest errors. now if i only know what vdimm i was setting????
anyone install easytune and have it screw up your desktop.
i installed it.. then when it starts the taskbar icon shows up and the easytune program window flashes up and then disappears.. then .. no matter what you do whereveer you click your mouse windows just beeps at you like there is a message window sitting somewhere that you cant see, that is requiring you to click yes or no or something.. but there is no window anywhere.. wtf...
so i guess i cant use easy tune.. ggrrrrrrr
That is pretty ghey about the voltages...I was wondering about that when I was reading my manual. And CPU-Z or anything else won't tell you?
You did a fresh XP install right? (Just asking)
ya, no doubt, the bios sucks - especially coming from a DFI ultra-d
QUOTE=Lestat]ok wth.... you cant set the ram divider below 1:1 ????? wth ?

I just downloaded PC Wizard 2006 from the CPU-Z site and I think it's showing me VDIMM and VCore (different mobo). So, does the BIOS at least show you where your starting voltages are? I mean how the heck are you supposed to know where you're sitting at before you start upping voltages?
Well Lestat, 375 ain't too awful bad with bunk RAM I guess. I was hoping you had all the right "hardware" to get the job done. Hahaha! :)
im at 400 auto everything cept the cpu and again i am keeping that slightly higher.
having some troubles formatting the 2nd half of my raid..... it doesnt want to do it...
upping the gmch and mch and fsb voltages doesnt help.
edit.... ok its went past now... hhmm
seems like i can do 400 with auto everything.... i did jump up to 410 which is 820 on the ram which is too much the ram is puking out.
looks like i better get that gskill hz stuff. and quick...
i really dont see why they removed the ram dividers below 1:1 thats rubbish...
really gunna kill alot of peoples clocks like me who dont have insane ram.
think future bios revisions will let u set ram below 1:1?
i have gskill ddr667 ram also and i dont know how high they go yet. just got them from a trade with no baord to test them on.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231051
Lestat, REALLY dumb question here...but what's gmch and mch?
Also, are you on the F3 BIOS?
**subscribes for interest**
GMCH == (integrated) Graphics Memory Controller Hub == NB + video
MCH = Memory Controller Hub = NB
giga-byte's website shows a 4th p965 board now, a -S3 (no D). From the comparison sheet the only change is a different lan chip, still gigabit though. Its probably a typo
edit: OOOOHHHH, theres another difference... it uses all traditional capacitors, not the fancy solid ones on the -DS3. Damn... I'd love to know if the solid caps make a difference. I hope they do. It's rare you get such an easy basis to make a comparison. The boards are spot-on identical except for the caps.
The solid capacitors sound interesting. I wonder how much of a difference they really make? Has anyone ever worn out a capacitor (exacerbated by overclocking) on a motherboard? Do higher voltages actually affect the lifespan of these things?Quote:

Will be using 6600es.

Well this board was my choice, but seeing you cannot set mem lower than 1:1 is a shame. I planned to get a E6400 and get the highest FSB possible (485x8 :D). But no way I'm going to buy DDRII1000... it costs around 400€.
I did the maths, and the average gain from 2MB to 4MB is a mere 3,5%, and the highest is a 10%. Taken from anandtech:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=2795&p=4
So, with a 100€ less CPU you can get around 3.8-3.9ghz, which is around a 6-8% more mhz than a E6600 400x9. So things balance, and I can use these 100€ for the RAM. Hmm choices choices, what to do? I guess I'll keep reading, as neither mobos or Conroes are still for sale in Spain.
Doesn't that Team group D9 fatbody PC2-5300 stuff go that high though. That's only like $180 for 2 GB. I don't plan on getting PC2-8000 or 8500 either.Quote:

I'm hoping for 490 x 7 with my E6300 ES. My RAM can easily do DDR2 1000 4-4-4-8, so running it 1:1 = DDR2 980 :hrhr:
My ram can overclock to DDR2 1000, so does that mean the Ram Divider won't matter for me?
If I want to overclock me E6600 to 3.6ghz.
