whats worse, and poor overclocking dualie in general or one where one core hits 2.9 with 1.45v while the other cant get past 2.7 no matter what i throw at it.
Its like the slower one is taunting me GRRRR! i think id rather have both fail at anything over 2.7.

I know the core voltage is set high, but I needed to set it that high to make Half life 2 stable (funny how steam updates make it crash happy!). I've ran PCmark05 on it and got some nice numbers (considering my single IDE Hdd and my "ancient" graphics card - I'm still #1 X850XT owner though :D). I'm sure that my ram is holding me back, though I've found that these newer processors definatley have better mem controllers than even the FX-55 I've got! This was all done on water btw.

It's no more than .3ish volts above stock :D

Seriously though, I only needed to set Vcore this high simply for Halflife 2, it's crazy!
heh. I did 2.2 in my AXP for a long time. Did 2.7ghz just fine in it. Once in a while 2.8 would work. Only prime stable at 2.7 though.Quote:

So far mine is looking good! Mind you I am (as of now) 30 minutes into Prime (well sp2004) and all is well - 2808 @ 1.554v. Take a look at what CPU-Z is reporting for voltage and you'll see why you can't trust it.;) My temps are 3-4 degrees higher than I normally see but maybe I didn't get it seated well (I kinda rushed it :slapass:) but I can reset later and it is 73F in the room right now. If I get no higher than this I'll still be happy with a 40% OC.:cool:

Ok I was just testing an Opteron 175 with Big Typhoon. It's no good IMO. Looks to be about 2.85 GHz for full stability (not 100% prime-stable now, but I think after burn-in it would be). Not impressed! Will post a photo of the chip. Here it is

Sorry man that wasn't my chip, it was my friend's. The store gave him the 175 instead of the 170 by accident :p: The manager is his buddy, so he had to return it but not before I tested it. If it was an easy 2.9+ GHz on air, he'd just keep it.

I think it varies or you've got it all wrong- My SLI-DR is undervolting by .04V...
I ran the dual Prime95 SmallFFT tests while I was out with friends at 2,800 MHz (280 x 10 x 3) at 1.7V (1.55 V * 109.6%) when I came back it was still going after 3-hours 56-minutes so I stopped the test since I was satisfied so far and anxious to change other settings.
Today I tried to do better than that on CPU speed and I even upped the voltage to 1.74V (1.55 V * 112.0%) to try and push it to 2,850 MHz but it wasn't stable because Prime95 SmallFFT failed on Core#1 within a few minutes.
So it looks like the magic number for my CPU is 2,805 MHz.
(Edit: 2006-01-22 - The CPU is only 3D game stable at 2,750 MHz as mentioned in a follow up post.)
(Edit: Wanted to add the maximums for the other components of my system in this post to put the CPU max into reference. The RAM maximum is 265MHz at 2.80V 3-3-2-8 with 3D stability through few hours of playing Battlefield 2 at 1024x768 all High settings. Lower timings like 3-4-4-8 and higher voltage like 2.90V do not provide 3D stability at 270MHz for this RAM in Battlefield 2 and the intro black and white movie shows gray banding but the ram passes Memtest86+ for 8-hours at 270MHz (worthless without 3D stability). The HTT maximum for this motherboard seems to be 330MHz instead of the 297MHz that I previously reported, don't know why it changed. At 340MHz dual Prime95 SmallFFT fails in a few minutes LDT higher than 1.30V and chipset higher than 1.52V do not seem to provide stability either.)
I tested the maxium on my memory and while it can do 270 MHz at 3-3-2-8 and run though Memtest86+ 1.65 for 8-hours successfully but it is not 3D stable. Right when I started Battlefield 2 the beginning intro in Black and White started showing gray and white banding. I dropped the memory to 265 MHz, and the game was perfectly stable to play.
The only problem is that in order to get CPU at 2,800 MHz and max out the memory frequency to maximize bandwidth it is not possible to get 265 MHz memory because there is no divider that provides these options. The best I can do is 255 x 11 for CPU 2,805 and RAM 255.
I've already did the short dual Prime95 SmallFFT test successfully and played Battlefield 2 for a while without any problems with this setup.
CPU 2,805 MHz (255 FSB x 11 Multi x 4 HTT) at 1.70 V (1.55 V * 109.6 %), LDT 1.30 V (1.20 V Default), Chipset 1.52 V (Stock Default), and memory at 1:1 (255 MHz) 3-3-2-8. Temps at full dual-core load CPU 45C, PWC 42C, Chipset 38C.
(Edit: These settings are not 3D stable, at 2,805 MHz, only 2,750 MHz.)
I'm going to run a Prime95 overnight with these settings to see if it'll be stable. I'm hoping it will be so I can call this a 2.8 GHz CPU and be done with it.
(Edit: I added the picture below from the short Prime95 test. I've also been playing Battlefield 2 Singler-Player for about 2-hours now, after overclocking my video card to 500/1150 from 470/1100 stock and the system is stable.)
