Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3, Pretty good start

mobo makers will frequently put beta bios's on boards if its a bios that fixes issues.
its not a problem

F4 is a good bios other than the fact that it raises the vcore when using auto vcore. which technically is ok i guess as it means you dont have to touch the voltages.
i havent tested how for you can overclock before it stops raising voltages or if it raises voltages enough for higher frequeny overclocks.
ill give it a try tonight and see what happens.
it could turn out to be a nice feature. but then again it could be using too much voltage causing excessive heat issues.

i'll also check for what happens with auto vdimm.
i would check auto mch but i cant reach the mch read point because its in a tight spot when you have a pci-e video card.

Around 375 mine stops going higher, but I haven't tested at something like 420 or so. Damn board goes into uber reboot mode and I have to clear the CMOS.

But between 375 and 400 I get about 1.425v when set to auto. I'm just using win progs to test this though, and not an actual multimeter so I'm sure your results will be more accurate, Lestat.

well my issue with the auto is that i only need 1.33v for 400mhz fsb ie 3.6ghz
so any more is just wasted juice and much unwanted heat.

EXACTLY!!!! where it need to be for a perfect 100% stable overclock.

i cant really go higher without running into stability issue from the flakey FSB of the DS3 but i will try and see what it jumps up to.

Anyone care to share a screenshot of MemSet? Whenever i have set in bios "Read to Precharge (tRTP) = 6" and in MemSet it gave 8? 8 in bios then MemSet it gave 10? :confused: What is value for Refresh Cycle Time (tRFC) suppose to be best at? :stick:

are you using the latest version ?

Lestat, I have seen E6600 ES of step 1 and step 6, and I guess step 5, can't tell from your sig which you have? I got my non-ES E6600 up to 360 FSB for XP boot, on DQ6 with F3 BIOS, 1:1 5-5-5-15, no voltage changes. Looks like you're running 400 FSB. But I guess this thread is about DS3. I hear the DS4 will be more widely sold in a week.

2*512mb xms2-5400C4 corsair 4-4-4-12
and maxtor 300gb (sata drivers are not installed, so it works as IDE)

and i can't overclock :(
i updated bios to F4, disabled every advanced feature in bios
i tryd to overvolt everything and set memory timings 5-5-5-15 and fsb:ddr to 1:1, pcie is set to AUTO
cpu and chipset are cooled fine

if i rise fsb to ~290mhz, my system crashes/restarts

what you think what's the problem? in my RAM or IDE hard drive?

Very simple my friend, the DS3 is one of the worst boards available today. The high overclocks you see are just exceptions. A 1 in 10 exception. I was a fool myself in buying a DS3 and am stuck at 375MHz. Also it doesnt make any sense to me to sacrifice a pci-x video card for a pci one just to get higher. Your better of with a Asus motherboard, it cant be denied.

Mem : 2 x 512MB Geil 667MHz CL5 :slap: @2.4V for test, CPU@1.6V

Some SPI 1M, 16M & Cinebench 2003 (64bit).

16M SPI is very slow : ram is not good :mad: but 1M hmmm is ok and Cinebench score is actualy number 1 in Poland [Win XP 64 bit :D ]

I have prime tested it at 3.2 default voltage for over 8 hours and I have memtested the memory at 800 for over 24 hours. The problem I run into is about 20 minutes into any game, my system spontaneously reboots. Any thoughts? NB heat issue? CPU heat issue? Mobo issue in general?

same problem here. Everything is dual prime stable and memtested at 430fsb and 1.375vcore, but in games it crashes a lot. 1.44 vcore seems to have solved this, but that seems kind of high.

Is this vcore safe for 24/7? I have a big typhoon and am getting 49-50C under dual prime load in Speedfan. Coretemp says 63C

You can use Atitray to display temperatures while playing a game, you might find that the graphics card being under load is raising your system temperature more then just using prime has done.

S+M is a good test, if it passes that no game will cause it a problem. It heats the gpu up and tests if the psu can handle full load. Set it to 100% cpu time for the proper test

I have noticed something similar to your situation and it does involve heat. But only for 1 major component in your system. That is the X1900XT. I have the same card and since it only happens when you play a game, that's the culprit. Make sure you download a tool called "ATi Tray Tools" and have it monitor the temps. If you're oc'ing anything over around 65'c or so will make the card crash (from my experience) and either lock your system up or reboot it.


In Ati Tray Tools you can also set the fan speed to 100% to see if that helps your temps on that card.

My temps are the same on my X100xt on this setup as the one I just took it out of(Opteron 146@ 2.9) at about 68c under full load which a great temp for these cards. I don't think that's it. In my opinion its either the PSU, NB overheating, the mobo itself, or like the poster above, 3d stability needs a bit more voltage than dual prime. I will continue to check each... :(

I'm getting the DS3 but i'm not decided yet on the Ram, i reall y wonder wich ram should i go with I have the choice of two.( Super Talent ) The T800UX2GC4 STT DDR2-800 2GB or T1000UX2G5 STT DDR2-1000 2GB
I have an E6700 running 7950 Gx2. Any help on wich ram i should get and yes I will Overclock :)

Does the 965p-ds3 support "Conroe multiplier reduction" feature (ala ASUS)?

Since all retail E6600 and E6700 can't hit 3.6 (except with 1.6 or above vcore), it'll be good to lower the multi to 8x for a 3.2GHz at 400 (so that we get 1:1 DDR2-800).

CAM feature allows us to set low or high -- does low mean 6x?
