Martin, did you get yours from Monarch yet?
I can't seem to get my 170 stable when gaming at 2.9 GHz. I've put 1.5-1.6V in it and it doesn't seem to help stability while gaming.
It's able to dual Prime and SuperPi 32mb however, it randomly hard locks when playing WoW.. All I hear is wierd static coming out of my computer speakers.
Not sure what the problem is.. temps are fine (on water), have 80mm fan over pwm ic.. it COULD be my memory..
i dont know.. my mobo was able to handle the high HTT when I lowered the mulitplier.
What stepping? Maybe you've reached the chip limit. Try slapping a low divider on the mem to take it out of the equation for stability testing.Quote:

heh, i dont have one either. Gonna use an S3 Trio (PCI) on my DFI Expert until i guy a good one...heh. pathetic aint it? :banana:Quote:

Now i'm going to be on air (big typhoon), but if my chip CAN do 2.9 on 1.4, will the fact that youre on water and i'm on air have any real impact as long as the temps are reasonable (which they should be at 1.4)?
Thanks
OK, CPUZ says 1.48v @ 2950 and 1.6v @ 3000. Thats a big jump for 50Mhz! What was your actual BIOS settings (I don't any software voltage reporting).Quote:

I decided to up the voltages on this test with LDT to 1.40V from 1.30V previous test (1.20V default) and chipset to 1.62V from 1.52V previous test and default since I want to keep the voltages in somewhat a parity. It is running now at 44C and will probably raise to 45C-46C in a few minutes.
I always dual Prime95 with SmallFFT for testing as per the overclocking guide. The voltages in BIOS and Smart Guardian are in partity but SG is showing 0.02V lower.
Right now I'm just testing maximums but later on I'll drop the settings a few notches and do a long time 8-hour++ test.
Better be careful with those volts!
It's 2.5-hours now with 1.7V at 2,800 MHz (280 x 10 x 3) and it is still running the dual Prime95 SmallFFT at CPU 45C, PWM 42C, and CHIP 38C. It passed the previous time of 1-hour 55-minutes so I'm just going to let it run overnight. Let's see what happens.
If this run succeeds then I'll do a short trial to see it can do 2,850 MHz or even 2,900 MHz at these volts... but I doubt it.
I don't think that upping the voltage to over 1.7V is going to give me any more significant improvements in performance but I'm wondering how much voltage this chip can take before it is overvolted and fails to boot up. I could probably go up to one more notch to 1.74V (1.55V x 112.0%) and keep the temps around 48C at full load just to get 2.85GHz stable.
I might sick enough to push it on a payer to 1.77V (1.55V x 114.4%) with 50C full load temps, but that might be asking for trouble. Then again, I don't know what it safe or unsafe for this proc since nobody posted any high voltages on it yet. This is XtremeSystems after all...
I'm still waiting for an answer from anybody about the highest volts actually used. Most folks here are messing around with 1.45V and a few went as high as 1.55V. C'mon, isn't there anyone here that's done more or heard anyone do more? I know that I don't have a 0530 so I can't get those sweet 2.9, 3.0GHz on low 1.45V volts.
(I know that my few minute Prime's don't mean squat, especially when I'm clocking the memory at 1:2, but I'm hoping to find the max on this proc and to see how much it can give before failing quick so I can at least get a good guestimate.)
Hi,
I've been really anxious to get a dual-core Opteron but haven't really pulled the trigger yet. Now seems the time for me to get one with some decent prices here and there, I'd really like to hear from you guys regarding what to get where. I'm looking to hit 2.8GHz with IHS ON. I know this is gonna be tough, but it doesn't hurt dreaming, is it? :D
So what is the best bet at this point? I'm looking only 165s or 170s since I do not want to pay more than $400. Here are my options.
1. 165 OEM from Monarch
2. 165 Retail from Monarch
3. 165 Retail from ZipZoomFly
4. 165 Retail from MWave
5. 170 Retail from Monarch
6. 170 Retail from ZipZoomFly
7. 170 Retail from MWave
I put down different e-tailers because there might be a chance to get better steppings from one than another. Price doesn't matter among above 7, only the clocks. In other words, if an 170 costs $400 and clocks 2.8GHz, and an 165 costs $250 and clocks 2.7GHz, I will still go with the 170.
I've tried to gather information from various forums but couldn't really tell ANYTHING. If anyone has any thought, please share with me.
Thanks in advance.

I think it's all pretty much luck of the draw, just opt for the cheapest 165 or 170 you can find. Between those two, you have to decide if the 10x multiplyer is worth the extra money over the 9x multi. IMO, it is, but it depends on how much the price difference is.
I'm very happy with my 0546 175 however, right now I'm testing 2.625ghz at stock voltage, and no problems yet. That's on watercooling, but still, right now mbm is reading 25* idle, about to start priming.
Hi to all!
I'm a just registered member of this fantastic forum and i have a "hot" question for you: i have read about the 0546 good step, but which is the best one for OC between the following?
- 0546 SPMW
- 0546 TPMW
- 0546 MPMW
- 0546 XPMW
When I speak about best step for OC I mean WITHOUT extreme cooling system like phase!
Please help because i must make an order VERY soon!!!:sonic:
Thanks for the attention
i managed to get opteron 165 last unit from local shop in my place,
CCBWE 0547TPMW
i tried searching for this stepping on the net but cant find any.. yet.
i'll post up the result soon~
Where did you find a 165 for $250?Quote:

I forgot to write down what exactly I got before I slammed it it, it is a Opteron 170 0546 Xsomething, Monarch OEM ordered Friday.
Can be forced into 2850 above 1.6 V but I like this better (on water, Storm block, IHS on)

This is the chip that Monarch is giving out for OEM 170s these days.
Well, i'm not 100% sure i can get EXACTLY the step i want but i am working on... :) i think i have definite chanches, excluding the mythical 0530 (just 10% on that) :(Quote:

I think to remember, from the posts that I have read, that for the 0546 step the best is, in decreasing order:
1) MPMW
2) XPMW
3) SPMW
4) TPMW
Of course all this four are very good chip, i mean "the best" in the sense to obtain the maximum frequency at the minimum possible voltage.
Can someone confirm this?
That frickin' sucks.:brick: I ordered mine the same day and it will be delivered today so we'll see for sure what I get. I was really hoping for the 0530 which is the only reason I ordered the 170. I'd actually rather have the 175 0546.Quote:

Oh.. no I haven't seen an 165 for $250. hehe the best I've seen is for $280 OEM from Monarch. The numbers I've used are hypothetical. Sorry about the confusion.

I did invoke the Monarch 170 OEM card two times, got a 0530 TPWM and the one above.Quote:

Currently I see no way that I'll make it into the dual 2.9 GHz club
That bites. I'd like to get 2.8+ so we'll see. I know where I can get a 175 0534 for a good price but I'm not sure I'll fare any better.
