Been un-decisive about the PCH water block cooler. It seems like it does a pretty good job as is. It has yet to get over 38c and have read from others who has experienced the same.
Thanks guys. I'll grab the MIPS block for the RIVE. I like it better than the XSPC block, and call me paranoid but I still don't trust EK after the nickel incident...
New ROM for X79 Intel RSTe RAID ROM v3.2.0.1022
if anyone can modding the 2105 bios :D
2105 with Intel rom 3.2.0.1022
Here you go, And for anyone that wants the Intel ROM, iv left it inside the rar file.
Hello guys,
quick question.
If I put two graphic cards into slots 2 and 4 they will run at x16 both or card in slot 2 will be limited to x8?
I read that slot 2 is limited because it share lanes with slot 3 (grey one) but when slot 3 is empty it should run at x16, right?
These two:

The 2nd slot is 8x only. If you look closely you can see that there are only pins for an 8x connection (the second half of the slot is empty). If you checked the manual, you would know what combinations are possible and also that there is a feature called pcie-lane simulator or something like that, which tells you exactly what lane configuration is used given a specific slot occupation.
That's bad.
I can't find matching me new mobo from Asus with requested PCI-E lanes assignment... :(
Just EVGA Z77 FTW match my request...
Or maybe you guys knows any mobo (Z77 or X79) with which using slots 2 and 4 or 3 and 5 with x16 bandwidth?
Whats wrong with PCIe slots #1 & #3 (#3 being the third red slot)? The space between them is even larger, which shouldn't be bad for cooling. Besides, using x8 PCIe lanes hardly impacts performance at all. Especially if you use Gen3 cards...
If you havn't read this already, take a look at: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/I...press_Scaling/
Cheers
Beat me to linking to that article.
Also worth noting:
1) red slot #2 and the gray slot are not sharing bandwidth, they are the same. if a card is inserted into one, the other deactivates itself.
2) In the UEFI, there is a PCIE simulator that will show you which slots will run at what speeds if particular slots are occupied.
Why not first slot?
It's all about tube routing for my liquid cooling build...
I don't want to put card into slot 1 (which I can do on all mobos) because I will have not enough space to make connection ram -> gpu 1.
And yeah, I saw this article on TPU, I know it's just few percents, few fps but I still want them, it can be more in SLI.
If you're trying to say you won't be able to put the RAM in their slots with the first PCIe slot populated, that's not a concern with this board. Asus used ram slots with the movable clip on the top only. The bottom clip is stationary and RAM just snaps into that one.
Still doubtful that x8 3.0 would make a noticeable difference, but if you insist on running both cards at x16 3.0, then your only option is to use the top-most red slot and the red slot between the two gray slots.
I have to admit that routing your waterloop can get a bit messy on the RIVE board. There are a lot of nozzles around the CPU area which needs to be connected. The RIIE was a lot better in this regard.
I'll get you a picture of the loop I build on my RIVE when I get home from work. Just for reference.
Edit: Picture as promised. Please excuse the bad quality, mobile phone... ;)

Hello
Currently, with the RIVE, the firmware MEI version is 7.1.21.1134
There's a new version of firmware MEI
v8.1.0.1248
or
v7.1.52.1176
We can not do the update?
And for the MEI driver (Windows), there are newer versions, can not do the update?
Thanks ;)
How are we supposed to install these when BIOS 2003 introduced this mechanism to prevent modified BIOSes? I can't seem to use these files with EZ Flash.
Anyone else using Windows 8 RTM? I'm faced with a ridiculous issue whereas Microsoft force disables both the Intel X79 Chipset USB-drivers as well as the ASMedia USB3.0 drivers resulting in me not having any USB-device working at all on my system and there seems to be no way to override this stupid behaviour. Their reasoning is that there is some sort of known issues with these drivers so Microsoft has disabled them.............
Guys, I have just sold my R4F and 3930K so Im looking at a R4E now but will I have a better chance of finding a 3960X that will bench at 5200 on water or keep binning 3930K's?
Thanks
:)
Should I choose 2x8GB RAM sticks for R4E or 4x4GB set ?? or it does not matter during oc-ing ??
Benching with 5200 shouldn't be so hard. If you couldn't get your 3930k there I say thats bad luck and trying another one is worth a shot.
Besides only differences between 3960x and 3930k are 3MB more cache, a higher default multiplier and a different name (and of cause a higher price tag). From all I've read there seems to be no binning on Intels side here and I tend to beleave that.
Hello
with the 2105 bios, OC requires more tension?
Thanks
