anyone with oc'ed 4850 800+mhz core 1150+mhz mems that works on newer catalyst driver?
i can't get my 4850 870/1200 to work on newer catalyst. it only works with catalyst 8.7 :(
any tips to make it work on a newer driver?
thanks in advance ;)

DJSUB, same problem here with 4850 and 4870. The problem occurs when I change max clock limits with RBE...
same things happens to me even without changing the max clock slider in RBE.
recently i tried changing the max clock slider to 950/1350 without hash. i could boot to windows but it didnt install the driver correctly.
last month i tried flashing the original bios (stock core & mems speed) of my gecube then install the newer driver.
then i tried ocing the card to 725/1000+mhz mem clock using CCC. it work flawlessly in that speed.
from what i saw, you can oc'ed your vc to ccc's limit. you can also set that max clock in RBE without problem.
i only use stock fan that time. i will try to do that again but this time i will try higher coreclock in ccc :)
I also have the Asus 4850 custom pcb.
Because i didn't understant where i have to do the pencil mod, can i have some confirmation?
I measured the resistance and is indeed 1kΩ.

Where i have brown colour, i need to shade with the pencil? in between ?
leoy, yes, You are right ;)
For 24/7 I wouldn't recommend...
I just tested 1.42 load( took the resistance down to .925) .
Stable 800(too bad ccc stops there :( )
Temps max at 60's....
Something that worries me is that deafult i was reading 1.31 with the dmm at load.1.26 idle. Is it because it is asus custom?
And i took it down to 1.39v is this safe with temps under 60?
my 4850 read 1.18v at load at defaulr resistance of 1.85kohm ,reduced it to 1.22 vcore went up to 1.30-1.31max with clock speed max
stable at around 765mhz .anything above that causes catalyst 8.11 to crash or game crash. overdrive takes it ip to 790mhz stable.well i am not able to increase voltage in bios above 1.158(max in RBE) as it causes windows to not able to boot upto desktop screen.Anything for that and how much is safe resistance (and voltage)that can be dropped upto for safe use.
very much
Not game stable at all, off course. Can play Warhead at 950 though.
Memory freaks out before 1 Ghz.
VGPU at 'only' 1.35. Will try to push it to 1.40.
I'm not particulary skilled at OC, so this card must be awsome :D
any pics on modding gainward HD4870 GS 1024mb (with 2x2phase design) ?
help appreciated...
JimmyH, not sure. Try to search GND points other side resistors marked with green: http://ceemic.pri.ee/hardware/hd4850gs/hd4850gs_04m.jpg
is there a 4850 bios compatible with newer drivers that has >800Mhz overdrive limits? currently overclocking with ati tray tools and the gains from oc aren't much better than with CCC and lower clocks. :(
Hi,
Ok thanks. How do i comfirm a point is ground? check resistance to the 8pin connector ground on the other side???
JimmyH, Yes.
What are the current clock limits of the Cat8.11 with 4850?
lol, well, thats way above what im trying to achieve.
can i start with 100k vr with gigabyte 4850?:)
