I'd be REALLY careful pushing that much voltage through the CPU, somewhere near the beginning of this thread, somebody killed his 165 with 1.7v.Quote:

0546 Sound good..
My 0543 175 won't go pass 2.70 stable at anything less than 1.58v.
2.6 stable at 1.42v
arggg
I just ordered 170 retail from mwave and 165 oem from monarch.
one of them got to be good..
which is better to get to 2.6ghz 24/7 stable : 170 0546XPMW or 175 0546SPMW? BTW is that 2gb G.Skill pc4000 ram kit at newegg for $200 better for ocing than OCZ 2gb EL Plat pc3200 (2-3-2-5). Lastly, what kind of oem 170's are commin out of monarch? $385 w/ 3 year warranty is very nice. Thanks mucho.
both will do 2.6 take the cheaper one
it's rare to see an opty stuck under 2.6
maybe around here..but I have seen numerous 165/170 stuck at 2.5-2.6Quote:

Kame38?
were both your cores equally stable throught the process? The first core in my 165 hits 2.8 with 1.425 while the first has trouble at 2.8 with 1.5v.
Oh well im happy with 2.7 at 1.45 would have been nice to hit 2.8-2.9
I thought I was the only one with that stepping.. Thats really good:banana:Quote:

my last three procs all this 30s super pi, never got below it. the other day i was bored and fianlly got below 30s. and today iwas bored again and after about 50 runs i got my first 28s. being so bored and excited quite naturally i had to post a screeny. this is the system in sig

Heh. Maybe I will get a new mobo sooner then I though (but first I need a PCIe video card! )
mines pretty much stuck at 2.6Quote:

@the: What kind of evap & cpu temps are you getting on that proccy with ur LS with that chip?
Frag: in the mornings as its nice nad cold - room temp about 12-15c i see -45idle and -38 underload. once the rooms warms up im at -33 idle and the highest ive seen is -28. that's in a warm room bruning all day, so i;d imagine that's as hot as its gonan get. the coldest i;ve seen is -51 but it didnt stay there long, and it was like 2c in this room :D -30 is what i see mostly. i jsut shut all the stuff down taht i could to get udner 29, her are some pics of the other runs, and a sandra with the temp in the taskbar. the bmp's are liek 3 megs a peice so they'r probly slow dl :D

Does using dividers affect the overclocking ability? What if memory running lower than 200mhz?
I have been using dividers and not 1:1 ratios.
I hit the limit at 2.6 @ 1.45v and 2.7 wasn't even stable at 1.55v
I'm using stock hsf.
Will changing to si-120 make a big difference in overclocking or just temperture drop?
Thanks I'm a n00b overclocker.
I have Opt 175 0543..
Just purchased opt 170 from mwave and 165 oem from monarch.
Will post results, thanks!!
the SI120 will lower temps but unless heat has been an issue I doubt it will make a difference...I have opteron 165@2610 bios vcore 1.46..it is dual Prime 95 small fft for 15hrs when I stopped it this am but it will not go above this to 2650/2700 even it I increase vcore to 1.52v and I will not go higher as the dfi sli dr overvolts from bios readingQuote:

do you have high end ram to run at 1:1..to test a cpu for ocing..set ram low..like 133 divider with loose timing and slowly move up on the cpu speed..then go back and find max ram speed
you must have alot of $$$ around...2 more DC on the way..why ..to just play with...
go to the bios lower the ram settings and increase the vcore to say 1.45- 1.5v and see how you do..I found the opteron seem to clock well at low vcore to a point and then hit a wall and just stop
I thought 0543 were pretty good I would expect 2.7 maybe 2.8....but your ram maybe an issue
I had ram that did 250mhz @3-3-3-7-1t with A64 venice but @237 3-3-3-7-1T with my opteron I would die in prime95...changed to 3-3-3-8-1t@237 and boom I am 15hrs prime 95 stable again
I think it was the Opt 170 0543 that was good ocers.
I have OCZ Platinum 2-3-2-5 200mhz running at 2.5-3-2-5 @ 185mhz 2.62v
I don't think they could be the problem, can they?
Planning to sell the ones that do not oc well on eBay. :)
For the sake of house-keeping, I'll link to my thread here:

I got what I think is a pretty nice OC on my opteron 165.
Exactly the reason why I don´t buy CPU:s on ebay ;). That and they charge more then new price most often. Really greedy people over there...Quote:

:) I am probably going to sell it for cheaper than what I got it for. I paid $550ish (thats including tax). I will sell for 500 or so. Aiming for non- Ocers looking for a good deal.
can anyone tell me if this optee is a good clocker?

After reading this whole thread, all 19-pages with 1,130 posts I'm just starting on overclocking my new system purchased from Newegg around 2005-12-10 and I'm following the overclocking guide from HardOCP forum which I found to be the best written. I'm posting my experiences and setup as a reference to others so that they know what to expect from this CPU, motherboard, and memory combination.
The first test is the motherboard, DFI LanParty UT SLI-DR Expert 939 nF4 PCI-e Rev.AA0 with BIOS: 2005-11-02. I found that the limit is 297.44 MHz for the HTT maximum with LDT 1.30V, CHIP 1.52V. As you see I've upped the LDT from 1.20V default to 1.30V as recommended there and also on this thread. (Edit: Was testing this before switching the flow on the rear case fan.)
Testing the CPU right now, AMD Opteron 175 DC 2.2GHz 1MB 90nm 939 CCBWE 0543TPMW, and it seems to be short time (15-minute Prime95 smallFFT two-instances with CPU affinity set) stable and almost limited at 2,706 MHz (246 x 11 x 4) with 1.59V (1.55V x 102.4%) at 48C - 51C in Smart Guardian. I even tried going for 1.62V (1.55V x 104.8%) but the CPU would fail at around 2,750 MHz so there wasn't that much leeway gained by the extra voltage and the CPU temps would be 50C - 53C occasional jumps. I tried dropping my CPU multiplier to 10x and also 9x, and even 9.5x (I know about 0.5x not working well) but the final CPU speed ends up either being limited at around ~2,700 MHz CPU or 297 MHz HTT at 9x.
At least that's what I thought at first after I realized that the fan on the back of the case was blowing air into the case against the Zalman which was blowing air from the front of the case creating a huge heat spot right over the CPU and PWC area. D'oh! I switched the fan last night and my previous temps were ~48C for CPU, PWC, chipset, and now they are 38C for all, a -10C drop. (I know that the temps might not be accurate because of reports of DFI motherboards now showing accurate numbers, but I haven't tested the numbers with a DMM yet and I'm hoping that this being a new edition DFI Expert Rev. AA0, which is the 3rd edition it is fixed.) The aluminum case with hundreds of holes is also serving as a huge heatsink for the system since now the front of the case is as cold as ice with the air being pulled through it when before the fan switch it was heating up a lot with the hot air being thrown at it. I see that this air setup is working well, almost as well as some folk's water setups when the temps are compared.
After this oversight was fixed, I'm hoping that I'll be able to reach 2,800 MHz at least since the temps are keeping low. I've run short Prime95 Small FFT tests at 1.62V (1.55V x 104.8%) but the system still bombs after 10-minutes even though the temps hold at 38C at full dual-core load. Right now it's running 2,750 MHz and the test hasn't bombed after a few minutes.
I'm thinking that it's time for 1.66V (1.55Vx107.2%) and see if that stabilizes the system. Some folks here were talking about pushing this CPU to 1.7V with water and I'm thinking that my 1.66V might still be safe enough with the low temps.
Also, I'm just starting to test the limits on the Mushkin 2x1GB XP4000 Redline 991493 DDR500 3-3-2-8 - Orange Slots. The good thing is that in the memory 2x1GB/1x1GB OC Database the memory is listed as being able to do 10. highoctane | 2x1GB Mushkin XP 4000 - Samsung UCCC | 3-4-4-8 1T @ 275MHz | 2.7v | Link! - SPi 32M Stable: Yes and 12. JNav89GT | 2x1GB Mushkin XP 4000 - Samsung UCCC | 3-4-4-8 1T @ 270MHz | 2.8v | Link! - SPi 32M Stable: Yes. I'm hoping that I'll be able to match those speeds on my setup and I'm using those recorded speeds as my starting point. Right now it's running the short test #5 in Memtest+ 1.65 with 270 MHz memory through 1:1 CPU/HTT (270x10x3) with VDIMM at at least 2.74V through 2.80V and default 3-3-2-8 timings and the tests succeed and continue. It looks like this memory is at least good at these settings and I'm researching the exact settings for these chips and my motherboard on Mushkin's own support forum.
I'm not really willing to remove the IHS from the chip since this is a brand new computer and I want to at least enjoy it through the holidays to play some games like Battlefield 2, Doom 3, maybe F.E.A.R. etc. I already have a nice Zalman CNPS9500 LED 92mm Fan+Heatsink + Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste 99.9% for air cooling that seems to be working well in my case for a straight-through airflow from the 120mm case fan so I'm not looking to go to water or phase at this time.
Once I find the maximums for each components then I'll try to match them up and run long time stability tests. So now that I've shared my setup and my limit of ~2,700 MHz I'm looking for other settings to try to increase the overclocking potential of this chip. I'm hoping to reach 2,800 MHz since the temps are holding low.
Are there any other settings that I've missed or did I reach the cap for this release of the CPU with air cooling?
What is the highest tested voltage that has been safely applied to this chip?

Also have to take into consideration that temp monitors on dfi boards read 5-6c lower than what they actually are.
Same goes for the voltage, it reads lower than what it is, only thing to trust is what u set it at in the bios.
Are you running one instance of prime or two? You need 2 to stress both cores.
either way a 10min run of prime isnt what most consider stable, and if your only running one instance then it definetly is no idication of stability. 8 hours is what most consider stable.
I wouldnt put more than 1.6 volts through that on air, even though u think your getting the equivalent of water cooling with that hs.
Might wana check out the DFI ocing guide if you havent already.
