Hi everyone
I'm about to get a new motherboard...but, I can’t decide.
Abit fatal1ty AN8-SLI
OR
DFI SLI-DR
I'm not new to overclocking, but both boards seem to have their quarks. Which one will give me less trouble?
I’d like to use my old pc-3500 Mushkin lvl 2 BH-5’s, they currently will do 2-3-2-5, 224mhz @ 2.8v on an Intel Asus board. I’ve never been able to test them higher than 2.8v, so I’m not quite sure how they will perform on these boards
There will also be an AMD 4000+ on the board with a 7800gtx. It will be water and phase cooled.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Abit will give u less trouble and headache. The most stable will be the Asus, but you lose a few mhz overclock. Not sure wahts more important to u. Total stability or max clock.
DFI, no doubt...Quote:

how much smack have you had this morning...
DFI has the best nforce4 board on the market...
...until it blows up in your face...then it's the damn worst one... :)Quote:

LOL I certainly don't want anything going in my eye.
So thats 2-abit votes and 2-dfi votes.
If your not going to be Oc'ing -- or at least, not OC'ing that much -- then I'd say Asus or Abit would be your best options. Also, if you do go Abit, you'd probably be served just as well with the AN8 Ultra or AN8 SLI. IMHO the Fatality is not worth the extra $$$$. In fact, I like the passive OTES better than the Active OTES.
Just my 2 cents :D
Oh yeah, you mentioned phase change cooling. Maybe others can chime in on this one, but I think some had issues with the battery location on the Abit SLI version. Meaning, it's too close to the CPU bracket and thus the extreme cold kills the battery. Cheers!
WOW...I never thought about where the battery is. Thanks for the adviceQuote:

ok well my AN8 Fatal1ty SLI has been orderd and should be here tomorrow :D cant wait to rip out this DFI!
Do you guys know if that heatsink on the non fatal1ty version will work once its inverted...I have a lian-li v2000 case and I'm afraid that if the board is turned upside down the heatsink will fail....any thoughts?
I believe I read somewhere it does not work. But if u install a fan on it, it should be fine.
Im confused... does som revisions Vdimm going all the way to 3.55V, or is it BIOS-related? Could someone write it schematically and clean? I just hate my DFI boards... so unstable
you can forget running those G.Skill LA's anywhere near that speed dude......Abit is good but RAM just doesn't perform to its full potential....if this is bios related it should have been fixed by now :( just a thoughtQuote:
