I'm also disappointed with the 9500. My temps on an X2-4400 are not bad (38/49 at 1.4V) but they are worse than the stock x2-4400 AMD hs was...to top it off the Zalman also hurts the MB temps slightly - about 3 degrees hotter than before the Zalman...I wonder if I have the "convex" edition? :)Quote:

I tested everthing.
RAID 0 just doesnt work with this HardDrives. My last test it was putting other drives in this PC ...and everthing goes well. Installed windows in RAID 0, no probs at all..no boot problems.
And i discovery something really funny that i didnt know. When building a SATA RAID 0, the Master HD receives the Header that defines the Array. And if i use that Single HD in another computer...it simple doesnt work. Cant install windows, can do nothing at all. In the moment that i enabled Raid again, and putted only that drive...the NVRAID detects a RAID 0 but with error.....i got in Raid Bios, deleted the array, and now the HD can be used again with no probs at all.
Because of that i was almost sended a HD to RMA :P
Now, with 2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 the RAID 0 works perfectly with no probs. The 7200.9 doesnt work....and i tried everthing.
Ok...my next step its overclock this CPU with this Motherboard.
Can anyone explain me some of the settings in the bios ?
I have a PATRIOT XBLK, with AMD X2 3800+, Zalman 9500, Lian-Li V1000 Plus (BTX...inverted board) and when i put 230 fsb it gives me BSOD in Windows....just like 220.....dont know what to do.
Starting with this settings:
AI Overclocking: Manual -> This is the FSB
SB to NB Frequency -> Dont have the slightest idea what it is
Adjust PCIE Frequency -> always 100 (this i know)
PEG Link Mode -> There is diference here between Auto and Fastest?
Overvoltage Settings: Should i enable something ?
DDR Vcore -> What is the maximum that i can put with my Mem's?

Exactly...the MB does NOT behave the same way for a failed memory OC as it does for a failed CPU/Hypertransport OC. In the case of ram, one of removing/reinserting 1 or 2 sticks of ram into same/different slots and/or clearing CMOS with the jumoer and/or battery are your only options...just like in the good old days of Barton CPUs.Quote:

Great tip. Thanks a lot.
In most cases after a lock all we need to do is to press the power button reboota and press F1 without the ins key trick.
Though there are certain cases (memory OC locks) we have to clear CMOS.
I hope "ins" will do the job.

I think when this thread started Ben085 was using Crucial Ballistix in the original screen shots and overclocks, only after they died did he switch to Mushkin Redlines. I see you already have your Ballistix, I just went by Crucial.com today to order and they have pulled all the 1GB DIMMs from stock. I contacted a rep and they said they are in disussion with the manufacturer on whether they will be back in stock again at some point or whether they are EOL. Just too many burnt out RMA's I suppose.Quote:

I've had really good luck with my new Gskil 2x1Gb GBHZ. 270 1:1 at 2.8 volts 3-4-4-7.
It will go higher but I haven't tried finding the limit yet. It will go 273 1:1 with no errors in memtest 12+ hours, but my 148 mem controller starts flaking out at that speed using the default multi. Still very good performance and speed for under $200.

Hi everyone. uber-newbie here (new to the forum, new owner of the a8n32, new pc builder!). I have a bunch of questions related to this board but i'll start with the first issue i noticed. hopefully someone smarter than me can explain this. I have:

Seasonic S12-600W psu
I have the S12's fan plugged to the motherboard's pwr connector. When I launch PC Probe (the tool that comes with the Asus utilities) it starts an alarm saying my PSU fan is too slow. It has it rated at ~800 RPM. From what I understand the S12 is a quiet psu and doesn't speed up the fan unless things get really hot. Can I safely ignore this warning?

I don't know much about that board(or asus probe, haven't used that in 5 years), but usually you can set the alarm parameters to what you want, so I would try and set it to go into alarm when it is a bit lower than what the fan is spinning at.
Maybe I'm wrong here, but I know that when using most of these programs you can adjust what speed/temp the alarm triggers.

PCProbe II has a 800RPM lower limit and this is OK.
You need to monitor your CPU fan.
Change it.
You can allways quiet down a louder fan capable to work with recuced voltage by enabling Quiet fan.
sorry but just so i'm not confused, i'm not referring to the heatsink fan. I'm taking about the large 120mm fan on the power supply unit. it has a lead which i've connected to the PWR connector on the motherboard. It is this fan which PC Probe is giving me an alarm.Quote:

I know what you're saying. I have the same PSU and mobo but not your problem - but then, I haven't connected the lead to the PWR connector. Is it the blue/black one with the fan header connector? Why don't you just unplug it?Quote:

ok i have a question. asus's thinking on putting an external sata connecter on this board, and going from 8 usable sata ports down to 5 seemed stupid to me, i really liked how you had the external adapter like on the a8n sli deluxe. will i can live with it i thought, but when i went to plug in a sata hard drive and do some backups, to the external connecter, it dont fit! it doesnt say much in the manual about this either, so im off to do some reading. does any know what the deal is?
guess i answered my own question, but if anyone is wondering, it is an eSata connector. i never heard of it, but doing some searching around and that is what it is. now the other question is, where the hell do i get a cable that will work. check it out: http://www.sata-io.org/esata.asp
