The Official Dual Core Opteron Overclocking Thread

I received about 1 week ago a retail 165 0534 MPMW...

I ran it 290x9=2610 (just cant recall the ram speed , pretty sure was 133 divider) on DFI SLI-DR bios 623-2, SI120w/nexus fan for 13hrs small fft Dual Prime 95 , temp max was 46-48c underload..vcore was 1.46 in bios..:D

Anyway I tried to get 2650, 2700 using 1.52-1.54 v in bios vcore..no go either crashed prime 95 or temps got around 53-54C..so I stopped..I was running my ram higher at 237 with 5/6 divider(ram worked with my venice up to 250)
ram was tested at 237 (with prior setup at 250 mhz) in memtest86 for 10 passes or 6hrs when I stopped it with no errors

anyway..I went ahead and installed CAt5.13 driver which works better with DC cpus and net 1.1 framework....and turned up the ram and reran prime95..cpu0 crashed at 10hrs....then suspect attempts at runs of Prime 95 crashed sooner

have you guys seen a chip dual Prime 95 small fft 13 hrs..I stopped and then after tweaking and trying to up the oc...going back and finding it can no longer run Prime 95 at lower OC..:confused:

so far im at 2.8 ghz Gaming stable, can play 2 games at once actually...

165 opteron 1.5 + .5% voltage(msi neo 2 plat), temps ive seen reach about 45.. but on this board i doubt its that high... I have gone up to 3ghz but it wasnt stable :( :slapass:

hi guys Im new to the dualcore AMD game.... I just installed an Opty 175 into an A8N-SLI Dlx and kind of disappointed with the results...

its not even getting to 2.7 on air.. I can Spi 32M at that speed (11x245) but occasionally get errors.... I havent even tried Prime yet.. but I doubt its stable.

The A8N only gives up to 1.5vcore in the BIOS so not sure if thats holding me back or not. I know my ram is good to 265 or so (tested it by dropping the CPU multi and running Memtest86+)

Did I get a "dud" chip or is this typical for the 175? I was hoping for 2.8-2.9 on Air.....:mad:

did you set the ram to 133 divider and loose timings to just test cpu max

I would think a 175 should hit 2.7ghz pretty easy

2.9GHz on air (dual prime stable) is quite rare. I don't think any other steppings than 0530 TPMW can get that high on air. Correct me if I'm wrong :)

yeah thats what I was thinking too.... yes RAM is set to 333 3-4-4-8 which I know is no problem for my ram (patriot TCCD)

if i up the volts to 1.45 it seems stable at 2.7. but thats kinda lame for a $500 chip. I have a 4400+ sitting here too, I guess I'll pop that in and see what it does. Its a CCBWE 0519UPMW cant find much on that so nothing to do but try it. I forgot to look at the batch# on the 175 before putting it in.

Is there any place selling pretested Optys?? sucks living in NYC there are no local shops that let you look at the batch#s before buying.....

edit: WTF!? when i put in the 4400+ now the ASUS only give up to 1.450 vcore in bios!! wtf ASUS????? with the opty it went to 1.50 and even that was not enough.. why do they do this?? is there a modded BIOS for A8N-SLI?

Just posting to say that I picked up a CCBWE 0546XPMW on christmas eve. I've not primed it yet but I played a silky smooth Half-life2 for a few hours at 2855mhz with 1.5vcore - my FX55 needed more voltage than that to hit the same speed. Idle is at around 28degC on water and the maximum load I've seen when running dual strings of 8M has been 39degC.

I've just reinstalled windows (My Hdd was a mess!), so I'll have a proper play over the next few days.

I need to go back to some ram that'll hit higher speeds than my Geil BH-5. It isn't too shabby by maxing out at 260ish but I want to go a bit higher 1:1 (I'm sure 2.9Ghz is an easy target) and I've never been able to get my mobo to run happy when using a divider.

Well :banana::banana::banana::banana: man, the chip does what AMD advertised - I wouldn't classify that as junk. Anyways, a lot of us out there are having no problems hitting 2.7 ghz. If yours is crapping out at 2525 mhz, go back to the drawing board before writing off the chip. Examine all options.

It's aways been the same; discarding user error, it's a roll of the dice. The winners cheer, the losers complain from frustration. :fact:

I did. I bought it during the $299 one day sale about 2 weeks ago.

I'm flipping out, I'm still trying to find my max mzh and so far I can get 2702mhz @ STOCK VOLTAGE and 40C load on a xp-120. I'm going to prime this overnight. Stepping is 0546 MPMW.

Yes, I will post screens of this later. Probably within 2 days. Christmas has been good this year! :D

I don't know the max stable OC yet because my ram won't run fast FSB, it's G.Skill 2GBHZ PC4000 DDR500 ram. Any suggestions for how to set up the divider and timings on this ram so I can get a decent OC with only a 9x multiplier?

I'll be finding out in a few weeks... I'll report back when my 180 goes under the chilly1 cooling. Hopefully with luck and a prayer I won't have a severe coldbug issue. We'll see I suppose!

I'm running dual superpi 32m right now at 2810 at 1.46 volts in the BIOS, but MBM5 reads as 1.44

Opteron 165 0546mpmw @ 1.44v with a xp-120
load occasionally reaches 50C for a second right now on the PWMIC, which I don't like too much but it should be fine for the prime test until I can get a 3 to 4 pin adapter and run the CPU HSF on full.

Well my Opteron 170 0546XPMW seems to be off to a good start. I have it at 2.5ghz w/ 1.36v (havent tried lower yet). Im gonna push it farther tomorrow.
