Don't get me wrong, I like the Dothan/Sonoma cpu and I'm really happy with my P-M system but I was getting better '01 scores with a 200-300mhz faster Venice. I can't expect too much from a P-M that maxes at 2.6 with 1.6.vcore.
Another thing....I think this has been mentioned before but my Dothan feels alot slower in windows (moving files around, opening and closing apps, etc.)....not bad but a little annoying at times.

I understand you . It is basically a gamming processor , maybe you are felling the difference in bandwidth . How are you running at 2600 ? From what i have seen low timmings are very important .

Two questions:

1. Are there different steppings? Wich tend to overclock best? (this should be included in the front page)

2. Using a P4C800E Deluxe with the latest 1023 official Bios, use of software to adjust FSB/multi/vcore is not needed since all this can be done in bios, CORRECT?

1 - There are 7x0 and 7x5 cpus , the 7x0 overclocks better . Other than that there are two Intel Sspec number for each kind of processor (eg : the Pm 770 can be SL7SL or a SL7SP ) . For Dothans people usually ask for packing date and/or place it was built (eg :Philippines /Malaysia ) . There is no database so far for the best clockers . BTW , it is not a bad ideia since all other processors have one in this forum :D

2- Partially correct , somethimes it does not boot at high fsb and people change do it in Windows

Okey! Continuing on the stepping subject:
I found these two types of the 1,73 GHz '740' at the Intel site:

SL7SA 1.73 GHz 533 MHz 90 nm C0 2 MB 478 pin PPGA
SL7S8 1.73 GHz 533 MHz 90 nm C0 2 MB 479 pin H-PBGA

The package and number of pins are different! Surely this must have some effect! At least do they both fit in the same socket and hence fit in the adaptor? Are there any information on wich version tend to overclock best of them? If not, are there any cpus built in a certain production date and/or fab that is known to overclock higher?

Just want to make the best out of my money you know :)

ran some 3d01 for you, this at 2.4ghz, 200x12 with the 6800Ultra at 466/1.3ghz, the wife uses this machine now so i can't push it to hard.

see how this compares, remember you need a 6800Ultra at the same clocks to do apples to apples ;)

Both are socket 479 , this is the Package Type you are looking . Yes both will fit in your adaptor . There is no info regarding best clockers , cause for some reason we don’t have a database . We have for Venice/ San Diego / Winchester …..basically for AMD stuff but not for Dothan :(

According to Intels site there are only two different steppings of each type, so there aren't many options.. :p:
But if one package method are consistently perfoming better than the other, this is very important.

So the ones we put in our adapters are the PPGA versions?
So there are actually no steppings to choose from with the dothans.. only time and place of production..

Yes - PGA are the ones you want. Worth checking if you're thinking of picking a chip up 2nd hand (e.g. from ebay) and the seller doesn't have a picture / enough info (for example someone was selling 5 x ULV 900MHz Celeron Ms on ebay.co.uk today but they were all BGA - or I would have snapped them up ;))

It is just what i said a few posts ago . You had great results even at low fsb .

Is quick cpu temp change normal whit mobile cpu?

my cpu temp changes 33->46 degrees at same second when cpu usage changes 0%->100%... and temp drops fast as it rises when cpu usage drops back to 0%

Trick is 200fsb and turbo mode with BH5, only clock with clockgen over this.

you guys witht he P4p or p4c boards, unless you are running 250fsb 2.5-3-3- you would do better running 200 with turbo and a slight clock in windows, trust me ;)

Wait, the P4C800-E DLX PAT doesn't run above 200 FSB in the BIOS? I thought that for that board everything works with PAT. Getting my board in a week and planning on running 220 FSB but not if PAT/turbo isn't working. Also, would 220 at 2.5 CAS be worse than 200 at 2 CAS performance wise in gaming?

I've got a big problem. I bought a P4P800SE , use newest bios 1009.004 beta but I've checked on 1008 too.and Pentium-M 730 fails to run at all. Normal blank screen :( Celeron-M 350 run fine.....

Ofcourse I've got Asus CT-479 adapter. I tried 400/533 jumpers on CT-479 - no effect :(

I checked on DFI-855 MGF too, not runs :( But DFI doesn't support sonoma dothans officially

CPU core looks fine. Is isn't damaged

I notice that , i guess turbo mode apply a bunch of tweaks on memory timmings and also PAT help a lot . I would like to have this on the P4GD1 ... :(

Thanks for running the test Bigtoe. Unfortunately, I can't use it to see if my system is hosed as I don't have a comparable vid card. Closest available to me is a 6800le w/ 12 pipes.
