I just noticed Majorrams temps were not being OC'd at all, in that case yeah somethings really too hot- Those temps should be your temps if you at your MAX Stable OC. pretty much.
anybody getting the restart issue with 404 bios?
Hi Gar i have the same cpu/ram and mobo and whilst i can get into windows with ramm @1111Mhz it wont run prime at all, which slots are you using for your ram , i know my chip will do 3.7 Ghz 463x8 as it primes fine with mem on the next divider down which is at a crappy 1:1 ddr463. any clues ?
Well not necessarily ram voltage go up with 4GB.... usually if they are rated 2.2v they will run at that and be stable, its usually the NB that has a hardtime keeping up. I set my NB on Maximus to 1.53v, it would error with mine running super tight timings at 1.49-1.51v.
temp sensor maybe will work

Hi all,
Just an update. My Ballistix failed on the other Memtest (v3.3) as well.
Right now I have some OCZ RAM in there and testing away.
So far it's on the 2nd Pass with no errors. I'll see how it is in the morning.
Either way, I already requested an RMA for the board and I think I will do one for the memory as well. Maybe they will let me exchange for 2x2GB sticks.
Does anyone recommend any 2x2GB DDR1000+ RAM? Other than GARs GSkills of course :)
Or should I just stick with the Ballistix DDR1066 (after all it's pretty good RAM)?
:) smal oc
VCORE Dropst to 1.16V!!! Is that normal?
Man you guys are reporting soooo many issues I am getting nervous. I still have the unopened mobo sitting here waiting for the CPU. Is this board a dud or what?
Yeah I hardly think it is the RAM. I'm gonna give the RAM a second chance and see what happens. I really don't want to part with them anyway :)
Hey does anyone know of a good fan-based RAM cooler?
Just wondering since air flow in my case may not be the best and I hope it will help.
Plus I think I will get a few temp sensors and monitor temps around the board.
Here's hoping I get the 1.03g revision of the board! :)
I've read all the pages in this thread and I agree there are a lot of issues and I'm even tempted to just go back to the Gigabyte DQ6.
I feel though that the Maximus will get much better before the year end. Just a feeling mind you. Plus despite all the issues, many people keep saying how much they love this board (even if you put aside GARs posts ;) too) that's gotta mean some thing.
After trying many many different settings I became slightly frustrated and set my voltages to what I feel are a little higher than they should be just to try and keep a prime stable overclock. Here's my settings 16 hours Prime stable:
CPU Ratio Control Manual
Ratio CMOS setting 9
FSB Frequency 400
FSB Strap to NB Auto
PCIE Freq 100
DRAM Freq DDR2-961mhz
DRAM Command Rate 2T
DRAM Timing Control Manual
cas 5
ras to cas 5
ras precharge 5
ras active time 15
Everything else AUTO
-----------------------------------
Voltages
CPU Voltage 1.5 (1.488 droop)
CPU PLL Voltage 1.66 (overvolting to 1.776-1.792)
NB Voltage 1.63 (overvolgint to 1.68)
DRAM Voltage 2.22 (overvolting to 2.352)
FSB Term Volt 1.4 (overvolting to 1.472)
SB volt 1.075 (overvolting to 1.120)
Loadline Calib Enabled
CPU GTL Ref .63x
NB GTL Ref .67x
DDR2 channel A auto
DDR2 channel b auto
DDR2 Controller auto
SB 1.5v auto
Both spread spectrums disabled.
I am running my ram with a divider to eliminate any stability issues to just the processor. What voltages on there do you think I can lower? Obviously I will be testing with lower vcore now, but wat about the nb, sb, fsb term, and cpu pll? I would like to get lower temps if I can. It was 71c after 16hours on water. It is about 90f in the room it is in though.
Mondo, you could mount the TRUE so that it blows upwards, from bottom to top, as opposed to from front to back? That should give enough room I think?
yeah pll lower is always better....i put 1.6v when i m losing my hope on my proc.... E6850 fsb walled at 465...its been all the same for 3 mobos....Dark, P35 DS3P and maximus.... will post my 3.6 settings later tonight...in the office now cant remember what settings did i put all i remember is 1.4125v for vcore and 2.00v for vdimm at ddr 900 4-4-4-8-4-42
Damn this is a pretty long thread:shocked: The only problem I can see so far with this board is the vcore. This cpu was 100% prime95 stable at 3.6ghz at 1.38v on my Asus Premium P35 board. I understand there are alot of new settings in this bios and I'll have to really dig into it but for now like I said the only thing I can see an issue with is the vcore/vdroop control. Or lack of. I started out by setting the vcore similar to how I had it on the Premium at 1.4v to get 1.38v real. That was obviously a no go. So, I worked my way up with vcore and it seemed like it just wasnt changing at all. I finally landed on 1.5v to get 1.41v real. I am still on the original 0401 bios and am not sure if any issue have been solved with a new bios revision (I guess once I read this thread I'll find out:))
One other thing I found out that was total garbage with that cpu clock up or whatever that software was. I kept getting bsod's all the time. But then again I disable all cpu features in the bios so it wouldnt work either way.
I am running 4gb of memory on Vista x64 without any issues. One thing I did notice is my vdimm did overvolt a bit.
