You can set the DRAM speed independently in the BIOS. However, the BIOS is really just setting a ratio that is related to the FSB speed.
My MSI 975X BIOS would let you set this ratio directly and then would calculate the DRAM speed.
Asus doesn't show you the ratio and instead just shows you the DRAM speed.
Different ways of doing the same thing, but they are all confusing. ;) Chances are I got it wrong. ;)
The E6700 FSB is 266 but the setting of DRAM timings is via a ratio (invisible on ASUS bios 0711) set in the (manual) DRAM timings spec area of BIOS under jumperfre/advanced?Quote:

Does this indicate bad RAM? If so, no wonder I am getting confused!
Sounds like they put the wrong SPD on one of the dimms. Weird. That is the best possible situation.Quote:

Yes the 0711 version and up.Quote:

jmicron driver only install during "f6" option with windows install, otherwise, never work right, unless, you know a real nifty workaround.

No, I made sure not to install the jmicron driver.
I found one reference to getting a BSOD after Windows Update on Google:
http://www.pcabusers.net/forums/arch...p/t-40402.html
I uninstalled all of the updates I had installed from June 14th, 2005.
However, it is still crashing. :(
I ran memtest tonight and got zero errors.
I'm booting into VGA mode right now to see if the NVidia GForce drivers are the issue. Nope, still got a crash with VGA mode.
Safe Mode with networking works fine. No crashes at all.
What is disabled in safe mode?
I thought it might come in handy to pass this url : it`s the newest version of the Asus update utilty v 7.07.06 to update the bios of all asus boards in windows xp without leaving windows xp :
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Oth...ty-70706.shtml
What driver version do people have installed for the IDE controller? I did not use F6 to install the JMicron driver. Instead, I let the Windows installer install whatever it wanted.
For that matter, what drivers are people using for this motherboard? Any chance you could post version numbers? I'm getting desperate. :)
Definitely a driver problem, do only Internet Explorer and Firefox crash? What about other programs?
You only have one drive right? Stick in on the Intel SATA and disable Jmicron. Disable everything, including the other Ethernet jack, then reverse them...
There is an Asus update for the onboard Ethernet.
As for Jmicron, I didn't have problems in IDE mode with the Jmicron drivers, but once I did get a weird slowdown during a speedtest with Nero.
Some suggest putting it in AHCI mode and reinstalling drivers. So I tried that and one controller kept coming up yellow and they weren't taking. Eventually by allowing it to look for a drive online for that controller I got separate IDE channels for my PATA devices (DVDRW and HD) and another for my SATA. No more dropouts in Nero info tool. Better probably to skip them altogether and run in IDE mode and use Windows drivers. The Jmicrons have no documentation on running PATA+SATA devices, on whether we should be in AHCI, whether they are actually supposed to handle PATA+SATA in IDE/AHCI mode, or what best practices should be. Therefore, screw them...
Other programs crash, too. But I haven't narrowed it down to figure out what is the common theme (if there is one).
I actually just downloaded the latest Yukon driver directly from www.marvell.com. It is dated September 13th, 2006. We will see if that changes anything.
Just another suggestionQuote:

Uncheck the services that you think are the issue or one at a time until you isolate the issue.
Sometimes it’s not just the driver but another service conflicting with another service running.
I know it’s a pain in the * but sometimes you’ll hit it right away.
You can also do a clean boot this way by clicking selective start up and loading only what is necessary to boot to windows.
After rebooting set everything to normal startup and reboot again.
This forces a completion of the driver installation.
you need to install the jmicron driver during Windows install using the "f6" option when asked at the beginning.Quote:

1) install jmicron driver at "f6"
2) when windows ask, install the floppy for the jmicron driver when asked
3) in bios set jmicron to ide
whatever you do when updating from windows update ""do not install the jmicron driver""
ok, you set ide configuration in bios to "raid" to use intel, and, set jmicron to ide in order to use ide devices such as dvd, etc.,
I let Windows install the drivers as well. I have a "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" and the Intel controllers showing in Device Manager. It's all working well, so I am definitely not trying to update with any Jmicron-drivers. Before installing I checked the manual, and it instructed to use the drivers and the F6-option only if trying to install Windows on a RAID-array.Quote:

whats the best bios for this motherboard? I am having issues going above 405 FSB with the 0711 :slapass:
anyone:rolleyes:
if it's got the rounded IHS corners you might want to consider lapping most people drop 5-10c
0711 is a pretty good bios imho, got up to 502 with my e6400 on water
That definitely is not normal. My E6700 ES idles at 29C with the fan on my Freezer 7 Pro at full blast.Quote:

I'm assuming that the Asus utility is correct and CPUz is not. Is this true?
the new retails gets hot..
When looking at the temperatures, one must consider the overall cooling of the case as well. My idle temperatures are around 45C with a Scythe Ninja, but they just can not be much lower as MB temp is 40-42. I have a very quiet case with limited airflow.
I'm considering a Antec P180 though, and probably will check the processor as well, in case it needs lapping.
After searching for "p5b deluxe bsod" (why didn't the obvious occur to me?), I found other people with the issue, and one guy who fixed it:
http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardw...ict200024.html
Looks like KB920872 might be the culprit.
"This is a reliability update for Windows XP machines. Install this audio component update to prevent memory corruption issues which may cause an unstable state on a computer that is running Windows XP Service Pack 2. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer."
I'll try installing everything but that update tonight and see if it works.
I'm surprised that I'm the only one on this forum who has run into this issue. Am I the only guy using the on board audio? :) It kicks ass!

The one and only. This is my other expensive hobby. :) Actually, I work for Intel, so at least the processor came cheap. :) The rest took quite the bite out of my wallet. More than my Evo III 16G. ;)Quote:
