do the delay is due to sales of 5800s being too good?
or they want to make sure they have enough volume of 6900s due to the super awesome price point they will have?
or both?

Well at least we can stop speculating about release dates
And concentrate on speculating about performance and specs
sucks to be amd right now lol seems to me like nvidia pooped on their party
What does this 6970 & 50 delay means really?
Apparently, it's not because of bad yield. Rumors are saying it is caused by the shortage of MOSFET (DrMOS) chip. But after that back-off on 6990, and now this. Can all this mean AMD is in trouble to deliver a competitive performance to beat/match GTX580?
It wouldn't suprise me if nvidia were behind the shortages (if there is one) to poop on AMDs party, especially with the successful launch of the 580.
if they knew they would be screwed once the 6900s are out, they would be wise to market the crap out their cards to get as many out the door as possible before its launch.
i think the issue is that nvidia dosnt really have many profitable cards between 250$ to 500$, and will have to wait for the 570 to fill in the gap, but even that will still probably leave large holes. if the 570 goes for 375-400$, then a 6970 for 450$ would be good enough to scare people off nvidia.
i think the only real solution in the end is for a 450$ 580, with a 6870 near it aswell (pending performance)
a 570 for 350$, 6950 right around the same
and 460s and 6800s for sub 250$
but then between 250$ and 350$, you will have like no choices from either brand.
we might see in spring time a 6930 and 560 (full 104) to do OK in that price gap, but thinking that far out is too risky, but its still a gap to be filled
AMD Radeon 6900 series officially delayed
Quote:
Next week two cards from the radeon 6900 where supposed to launch as all of you know. Lots of rumors already appeared on delays. We finally have a thing or two confirmed from AMD
Quote:
Few changes…
Demand for the ATI Radeon HD 5800 series continues to be very strong, the ATI Radeon HD 5970 remains the fastest graphics card in the world and the newest members of the AMD graphics family, the AMD Radeon HD 6850 and HD 6870, have set new standards for performance at their respective price points, and are available in volume.
With that in mind, we are going to take a bit more time before shipping the AMD Radeon HD 6900 series. As of today, the NDA lift for information relating to the AMD Radeon HD 6950 and HD 6970 will be the week of December 13th. We will be providing additional information on these products, including the exact date and time of the NDA lift, in the weeks prior to launch.
Thanks for your continued interest and help in letting gaming enthusiasts know about these products. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
Kind regards

Tomsmith 也说过6970 相当(略低)于6870 CF 的性能。
Tomsmith also said that 6970 comparable (slightly lower) in the 6870 CF performance.
也许综合性能6870 CF >= 6970 > 5970 >= 580
Perhaps the overall performance 6870 CF> = 6970> 5970> = 580
this one is interesting though if its true i see new radeon 9800 on horizon :D
+1 what they are supposed to say about unknown product ?
Plus, if their silence means their product will end up underwhelming they would have been completely silent before the Fermi launch. Which they weren't. Oh no, they weren't.
You guys don't get it? When nVidia is quiet it means their product is crap. When they make noise it also means their product is crap. When nVidia suffers delays they're screwed. When AMD suffers delays, nVidia is also screwed. It's the easiest thing ever - no matter what happens the conclusion is the same :)
All these may be true, but nVidia has been confident enough to drop the GTX580 right on Cayman. This timing and confident indicates that they have planed to sabotage it, and may even had plan to beat it too.
On the other hand, these 2 delays are not indicating a confident AMD, but we have to wait and see how Cayman will stand against GTX580, if it comes out on time.
They had to release the GTX 580, otherwise cayman would've truly been the next R300 (going by current rumors). But really, like other people have said, i don't think AMD would be stupid enough to release a product which isn't equal or better than the GTX 580, otherwise it's just fail. Because that would mean it's only 30-40% faster than the 6870 let alone the 5870. Even if it's just ~50% better than a 6870 it would be on par with the 580, and i'm expecting at least 60-70% over the 6870 ;)
Would be funny if nvidia refreshed to a GTX 585 etc to compete
You're spinning harder than Charlie
2 delay are not indicating a confident AMD? Right after you said it might be due to the DrMOS component? And before that, you were gloating about AMD suffering yield issues which were proven false a few days later
And what 2 delays? There's only been one, and AFAIK, the original 11/22 date was the "best guess" and never set in stone
Some people are seriously delusional , and the fanboys are the worst
No need to get offensive. In that way the truth gets berried under childish fight. I take it as an offense to be compared to Charlie.
I don't know why they have delayed 6870 & 50, rumors says the shortage DrMOS is to blame. I don't know, but they have delayed 6990 to next year too.
These 2 delays may indicate trouble in AMD camp, but it may be just for fun too, who knows?
Sam Oslo, you are like broken record. Repeating same over and over again.
