Well.. fsb now does not mean the same thing with 975x vs 965.... and strap is way more important and by the same time so much unknown for alot of people...

I think strap has even a greater performance impact than memory timings....
High fsb does not mean alot anymore unless you have a 6300 or 6400 or a X6800....... in order of importance of performance we could say:

Cpu frequency / strap / Chipset / mem frequency / mem timings/ fsb ...

well not really but, fsb is definitly not the #1 thing to look at when you buy a board.


supertim0r had a comparison between badaxe 2 and p5b deluxe with superpi and 3dm06 benches. I cant find the screenshots from him but if i remember well on 975x a 6600 @ 3200mhz (355x9) with memory on 4:5 (1066strap) 890mhz 4-4-3-8 was equaly performant as a 6600 @ 3700mhz (410x9) with memory on 4:5 (1028mhz) 4-4-4-12 on 965.

ok got it, can u please explain to me the strap thing that im confused with that, lik u said 4:5 is 1066 strap so 1:1 is 1333?

strap is in bios, option is called Ref Mem Frequency. 200mhz = 800 strap = faster chipset timings but low fsb, 266= 1066 strap, 333= 1333 strap = worst performance.

At 500mhz you are probably on the 1333 strap. You may be better upping your multi to 9x and down your fsb to 390 mem ref to 266, ram freq to 667 (4:5) ram will be at 978mhz, it will be faster that way. At 390fsb you could maybe go on 800mhz strap but im not sure.

To be able to hit these voltages on the MCH I had to put a fan over the southbridge before that I was only able to hit 2.1v on the MCH. Waiting on a waterblock to modify for the southbridge. :)

The strap will always be 1066 if you set it on this board XBX2, or if you use P5B DLX it will be 1066 up to 400fsb, 401 goes to 1333. Now changing the ratios from 1:1, 4:5, 2:3 etc doesnt change nb straps

ok im on 390fsb now at 4:5 and im actually slower on super pi doing now 14.9xx i was doing at 500fsb lower 14's, ?

New bios released this morning, version 2431. I'll start a new thread...

Anyone has tested this new bios yet? I hope it is a real iimprovement over 2333 this time... 2333 is the best so far, 2395 seems to tighten the chipset timings too much and lower the overclocking abilities...

Watchdog feature is now operational as we can see.. i hope you guys without a clear/cmos switch will be happy now :)

new 2431 bios sux too. I'm returning to 2333, the best xbx2 bios so far...

when i'm trying to OC on 2431, I always have the "unsuccesful post bios..." message.

where is the new option about recovery ? in clear mode ?

this is not a good sign.. why on earth later bios are crappy then 2333 in oc? might be intel feel this board is too good and they afraid we gonna burn their processor =D

I'm still wondering if any timing issues were really changed for the better. From what i saw, both bandwidth and latency got better at multiple settings when i dropped from 2395-->2333. I'm not sure, but I swear that i needed lower voltages and have lower temperatures on my CPU for the same overclock too.

I'll keep bugging tech support daily till they either block me or let me talk to someone with better then a GED :p:

Man, could ya ask em WHEN they are gonna address the stuck on HD activity light due to the crappy marvell controller?? And just what type of "recovery" the newest bios is "supposed" to have ??? :rolleyes:

Do you have to clear the CMOS after flashing to the very latest BIOS?
