hey honda, did you quit extreme overclocking?
Took at stab at DDR2 memory OC.
616.7 MHz -CPU-Z validation was made with 1.61.1, can't submit it.
Could have done worse, max DDR voltage 2.2v
I tried to do it again on air, no worky
If setfsb worked I could probably have done about 630. I really should bin my DDR2 and just keep the best. :(
@zen and LS you guys take care of the butt, thats the weak part. you guys are the luckiest guys :D
@mafio its just temporary man:D
You guys know many tips for BD DRAM frequency?
I forgot how to make CL10/CL11-13-13 work, never POSTs.
Llano test firing #1: partial failure.
Machine works, but my 3870K seems to have lost one memory channel :( Further tests with a new chip tomorrow.
Massman has posted a new article, please make up your mind on this one.
Have you sent it to Franck?
Concerning the Team Cup it's not that important, I think we can get a higher score for the DDR2 stage. ;)
Unfortunately not, sorry. ZenEffect has DDR3 covered already imho, try to get a submission of the RDRAM rig! :D
@G.Foyle: Shall I send you another PM? :D
Haha I want to do DDR3 for myself too.
I think BD can go higher than Ivy ever will for memory clock if done right.
I'll do that. :)
Considering my best BD DDR3 clock was done on air cooling, I think I can do better :p:
I found the ace up my sleeve for GeForce IGP, already matched my old 700/1850 score with just 550/1600 :)
EDIT:
Had weird behavior under LN2...could boot and run GT1 of 06 down to -130, but after GT1 it would freeze on "Please Wait: Scanning System Configuration" and then BSOD after a minute or two.
ZenEffect's score was done on air cooling as well! :p:
Were you able to improve your score?
Well no, because on air I couldn't do more than match my previous score with tinfoil pot on LN2, this time I put my KP Venom pot on top of the NB heatsink and the NB was frozen down to -100c
I tried for a long time to get it to work, even tried warming to -40c before I ran out of LN2 and gave up
I switched to MSI board and now my 3870K is completely dead, will not complete any benchmark at stock speed :(
I thought I have another Llano, but no, that was my last one. Unless I can borrow one from a shop tomorrow, I won't have a score :(
I'm glad Yeroon was able to submit a score...
What is the board/CPU doing?
Not good. :(
At least you were able to make a score during the session before.
That's too bad, I'm glad Yeroon was able to make a submission! :yepp:
I am going to get my dewar refilled here in an hour or two.
Will tackle HD 4290 IGP again on LN2...gotta figure out a better way to cool and insulate the board this time though.
Want to mention that my GeForce board may be dead now, it booted up but the video was sort of bad, (doing dark) maybe I have a bad cable but I doubt it. I think it is something wrong with the RAMDAC in the NB...it wasn't any kind of digital corruption. I messed with it some and now I can't get it to post again.
Gonna throw it in the oven for a bit @ 60c...
drove all the way to the city (1.5 hours) and all local Airgas's were out of LN2 except the last place and they ended up giving me half a dewar for free lol.
will be driving back tomorrow to fill up since they will have 3 160L delivered, on a good note I might have gotten my price for LN2 lowered to 0.50c:up:
also any XS team members can pm me and I will share my account #/info so you can get a good deal on LN2 if your local distributor is trying to f(l)uck you.
Always call ahead of time :p:
There is a horse track near my distributor, and thought they get 3 160L tanks a week sometimes they run out :(
Picked up 25L today for pcm05 starting tomorrow - will run w/o the text edit tweak unless someone comes up with it before tomorrow am! :)
Just to be sure - is this the background for pcm05 submissions! all the same background for all submissions??
"The background
Required background for all submissions: link.
http://hwbot.org/blog/wp-content//hwbot-team-cup.jpg "
I guess I was expecting a unique background to make sure we didn't start until 01August??
Sadface, 890GX + LN2 failure
No LN2 NB pot = no real LN2 NB submission
I could have easily placed first in HD 3000/4000 IGP :d
Well, (past) time to order a kingpin NB-2 I guess. Anyway, it was fun :p:
Going to submit all GeForce 8200 scores now, should bump team points.
Then I'll fix up my 890FX board (don't want to RMA) and run 965 BE 2D tonight. Still 15-20L LN2 left.
Yeah. Forgot to mention though on HWBOT that when it was running again, though, only one of my sticks was detected...
Took it out and it had burn marks on the pins...swapped slots and still didn't work. Luckily I had 4 sticks of GSKill HZ (both kits GMH) and the sticks I was using before were the weakest out of the bunch.
hmmm 2933 memory divider works
1500 yet? nope. still on air if you can even call it that. i have the pot strapped on there, with a fan blowing on it... but nothing inside the pot.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2458071
i do silly things like this ;)
Nice imc, hope it scales further with subzero.
It's nice that the board came back from the dead, but I'm sorry to hear about your memory. :(
Did you get your validation validated by CPU-Z?
You have 2x CPU-Z SPD tab in your screenshot, but no CPU tab! :p:
So now you have 1491MHz on Lynnfield and 1495MHz on Ivy Bridge, it's like you're not even trying for 1500MHz... :p:
No, I didn't even bother to send it in.
My second kit of HZ did 350 FSB on air vs the other one doing 330 on the lower divider so I think it will go further than what I got out of the other kit.
I was only giving 2.3v...not sure what happened.
I fixed my M4A89TD Pro last night, hopefully it stays fixed...
Going to bench live tonight with OC Forums guys @ IMOG's place.
Hopefully they don't lock me in a closet and force me to switch to their team.
Maybe a MOSFET died or something else is defective, 2.3V shouldn't kill D9, my benching kit is still happy after several runs at 2.7V.
You'll get there! :cheer:
Have fun benching BD! ;)
I'll put the XS SAR team on standby right away!
I got absolutely nothing done at this session. O.o
955 did squat on M4A89TD Pro, not what I was expecting and was hard to deal with. Very weak CPU-NB.
Mounted up FX-8150 and realized the board had a Phenom II only bios, so had to teardown because I needed to swap CPUs.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2461662
Tried for memory clock afterwards but couldn't get system to boot 2400+ :( 1600 6-8-6 RipjawsX...
Sounds like you were sabotaged by members of that other team...
This is the same kit and CPU you used for your old submission, right? Maybe the IMC degraded or you missed a setting.
I saw your new score with the 965 BE, you beat chew*, nicely done!
That 8150 is fine, for some reason I can't run CAS 13 and crazy stuff like Honda did...I mean, IMC has always been kinda weak though. My old 8150 booted DDR3-2500 easy on air, but this one has never booted DDR3-2400+ on air. On the 1200/2400 divider with 2400 CPU-NB, it won't get past windows boot sequence to I think the 1372 I got for validation on air before was about all it had. I'm gonna work on it in the next few days again on air and make sure I set a profile on it this time around.
I have had a hard time getting CL10/CL11 working in the past, I'm obviously missing something and even have tried auto on secondary timings but doesn't work...though it has worked before
One of my GSkill Pi 2133 CL7 is dead, glad I still have RipjawsX 1600 CL6, though they aren't as strong. I'll just use more vdimm, lol
I think I might have damaged one of the MVG's, the Power button will not turn it on, however the board lights up and I can clear the cmos but that is about it. And the funny thing is the board has been sitting since my last subs like 2 weeks ago, and everything was assumed to be fine at the end of the session:shrug:
Oh well I will have to try with another cpu just to be sure.
Does it start for a split second or just not do anything?
You've tried shorting front panel pins as well, I'm sure?
D:
EDIT:
A DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra B showed up at my door today, with fresh rubycon caps. :D
Won't be good for memory clock but at least I can grab a lot of TPP with it. (We are missing a ton of Athlon XP/XP-M/MP/Duron submissions)
Gonna say **** intel tonight and bench 3DMark01 and Aquamark on AMD.
My 965 should do 6.5-6.7 through those benches, probably not as good as my 2600K but should do the job.
Didn't he run CL11 for his memory MHz validation?
If it's a weak IMC there's nothing you can do, and imho if it can't even boot 1200MHz+ easily even the most excessive tweaking won't get you much further.
Did the PI Stick die on your SB rig or while benching AMD?
More Vdimm is always an option...
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! :)
Yeah, somehow he got 11-15-15 to work. I don't know how...
The Pi stick, I'm not really sure when it died. It has just been sitting for a long time, because I haven't needed it. (Sold AMD 1100T, dead intel setup)...but I think it died in the Crosshair V, at random with just 1.5v. The stick's SPD is read, but there is only 2GB useable in the system. I am hoping I can RMA them, I know for a fact that they didn't die in my intel setup 7 weeks ago.
EDIT:
The Corsair RAM I bought on ebay is dead. System won't post with it. I threw in a generic stick and the board started right up. ...
Well, just send him a PM.
That's weird, one of the dead ST sticks I got from ebay does the same, in one of ten tries it will boot to Windows and you can even use CPU-Z to display frequency and SPD, but it will quickly error out in Memtest.
I'm sorry Sam. :(Quote:
EDIT:
The Corsair RAM I bought on ebay is dead. System won't post with it. I threw in a generic stick and the board started right up. ...
It's alright.
Ebay seller pretty much claimed I was an idiot for even trying to contact him so late, however I did explain my situation fully, having not received my DFI motherboard until t_ski fixed it and stuff, so it was a month before I could have tested the sticks...but I didn't do anything to kill them other than remove them from the package and store them.
Anyway, the seller ignored me and the case was escalated to Ebay customer support, and Ebay ruled the case in my favor- full refund including shipping cost.
Found some TCCD, asking price was $25 + $3.65, I've offered $21.35.
dont waste your money sam. i have some killer tccd kits from a64 days. the 2x 256 kits are insane. I also have a ton of early ch5 kits from way back. take your pick and they are in the mail on monday.
I even have a ocz ddr booster if you want to play with that. I got it when when we were doing ocz powerstream 520 a64 days. those were the days. I think I might have some early ocz enhanced bandwidth kits laying around here somewhere.
^ this is why i love our team
Well I went ahead and bought the TCCD kit for $21.35 (25 shipped)...known working from a guy at OCF. Had you posted a yesterday evening I would have taken you up on that.
I dunno how much use the DDR booster would be with TCCD, do you think it would help much?
I don't think it matters too much as my goal is to submit as much as possible with AMD K7 T-Bred Bs and Bartons for TPP and then sell off the board and CPUs.
I'd be happy to try it out though...
EDIT:
I'm also finally free tomorrow, gonna run 8150 under LN2 again to improve 2D MT benches and spend time attempting memory clock.
I would be stoked just to see them maxed out. These kits are from way back when I was on water cooling noob days. I didnt have the balls for sub zero so I just oced ram at the time. They were amazing back then and have never really been pushed to the max. I went through a ton of these and kept the very best ones. they've been sitting in a box for years. All I remember was the 2x256 single sided kit of tccd was the ultimate benching kit on dfi nf4 ultra. the twinmos kits were the 1st out when we all thought bh5 would never return. back when we were tearing the spreaders off and looking for the 2 dots (winbond machine marks)
the ocz ddr booster was mostly meant for EB series and BH5 on 754 and 939. tccd if i remember wasnt known for scaling with high vdimm. the ch5 would for sure. what kits of tccd did you get exactly?
I never tried tccd on barton. the hype for tccd and ch5/bh5/eb was all about the a64 imc. Is there a 754 939 category? I have a dfi nf4 infinity and 4000+ mobile. I also have some abit nf7s 462 boards
how is our uncle steve doing on pc mark?
I have some 5ghz 3930k GTX480 SLI runs Ill be submitting soon. I was benchmarking for pimprig when they were still around but alas they are dead. Can I swap teams to XS?
Don't know how he is doing on PC Mark but we could use a DDR Memory clock submission. K7 isn't going to get the job done, I don't have money for DDR K8 system right now.
I bought Corsair 3200XL Pros, v1.1 DDR-400 2-2-2-5 2.75v
Of course, we'd love to have you!
welcome to XS Ace! :toast: follow the rules, dont cheat, and most of all, stay away from the news section. Its just going to piss you off and you will wanna leave. Take my advice.
Also there is a prerequisite rule if you are going to be on the team. Steve Ro. is the uncle you never had but always wanted. he is the only member in the history of xs to break more world records than michael jackson's thriller album.
Treat uncle steve with dignity and respect. Also you must know the official overclocking song word for word. learn it, remember the lyrics and listen to it when you bench.
its very important.

I appreciate the warm welcome guys. Im a very low budget overclocker so I improvise alot lol.
I do wonder what you meant by
"stay away from the news section. Its just going to piss you off and you will wanna leave."
I love reading tech news!
Welcome Ace123!
Good morning Mr. TA, How is it I’ve never seen this video! – great pics and music!:up:
Pcm05 for the team competition is doing ok :)
Mmm new components came in the mail today.
LN2Cooling.com pot and some Samsung TCCD. :)
I'm glad it went well in the end. :)
I see some very nice kits there. What are those G.Skills? LE or LA? :)
Of course you can join the team! Welcome on board! :welcome:
I have a kit of the 3200XL.... somewhere...
Are yours 2x256MB as well or 2x512MB?
By the way I just bought another kit of Corsair 2000C9DNV with Samsung HCF0, the winning bid was 1.50€. At first I was skeptical if they'd turn up at all, but yesterday I received them in complete original packaging. :D
I think he's referring to the frequent Intel vs. AMD and NVidia vs. ATI fights that happen everywhere. :D
Just stay out of the fights and you'll be fine... ;)
2x512
My board is touchy, I don't get it, they won't post. Unlike the CH-5 I had these are in working order.
Generic DDR-333 2.5-3-3-7 boot right up.
EDIT:
All is well.
Glad I have lots of crap spare DDR around...
Had to set everything manually in bios before inserting TCCD.
Great, just wanted to post you could try that. :D
Did you try this with the Corsair kit as well?
Nice shakedown run!
:doh:Quote:
They are both Corsair kits :p: only Corsair memory I own...
It was 1:30 AM, that's my only excuse... :yawn2:

Well done guys!
Thanks, need moar cooling powah...
...HWBOT breaking as usual.
Gonna run FX-8150 at ~-40 tonight and tweak for DRAM OC headroom, once I figure out the max (CPU-NB should do at least 3K at -40) maybe I'll pull down further and see if it scales.
EDIT:
Hey guys, how did we lose 700 points on HWBOT so quickly? Did someone leave the team? We went from about 26,050 to 25,300 in the last day or two.
EDIT:
After some investigating, it seems the point loss has been due to the ban of Solid Snake from HWBOT.
I don't even know what he did wrong...I guess photochopped stuff?
^cheating by ps screens/subs
ps you have pm
Alright, thanks
I tried with 8150 tonight, kept at ~0-10c.
Had trouble booting into XP at DDR3-2400, so I gave up. Wish I had old CPU, had horrible cores but booted into Win 7 @ DDR3-2500+ CL7
Figured out how to run 12-15-15-35 and such timings.
Seems both my sticks of Pi are dead. RipjawsX still chugging along.
GSkill issued RMA so will get right to that. I swear, if I get Hynix/Samsung high density crap I'll be a bit upset
small set back, opportunity to regain big points
nice work guys, and Don_Dan keep it up bro:up:
Recieved FX-8150 from loud silence today.
Loud, have you benched the CPU on HWBOT? If not then I will just submit scores with points...
If you want too, I can list the CPU for you and paypal the money to you, you set shipped price and I'll pay shipping to the buyer.
I've been busy all week, your 3870K is coming back to you on Monday.
never benched it for boints, only let a friend test on water, and he got to 5.5.
shoot me a pm later.
sam im opening up old mobo boxes and checking out what old boards and cpu's I have. I just came across the almighty chaintech zenith ZNF3 ultra with a 4000+ mobile 754 chip attached. http://img.hexus.net/v2/motherboards...th250/Mobo.jpg that is a stock image. I have a mobile there was a trick to get the heatsink to get lower contact for the bare mobile. I forgot.
I also found a DFI lan party ultra NF3. I need to find out if any of this crap still posts.
Steve I was watching your submissions on the bot. Great job! I am checking my old submissions tonight and I need to get back in here. My rank has dropped so much. I oc for fun but if I wanted to get our team some fast points what should I do? I have a gtx 670 Ive never used to submit any scores on. Do I want to dig up old hardware and try using it on all the boards or should I just put my best rig together and overclock from there? can you look at my hw account and tell me what I should try to redo? I wanna get some points for the team. Im also going through my old hdwr and trying to find some boards that work. the ones that dont I will toss or if anybody on here is good at repairing boards and wants a shot at them I wiil send them to you. I was going to send beep all my old amd ddr1 board to play with.
thanks sam. Steve and anyone else looking for some new music to listen to while benching Dinos is having a contest in the AU forum. I am representing xs in full effect.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...YTE-RAP-CONTES
Memory clock failure, keeps taking a dump at 1307 MHz...also system kind of acting funny.|
Tried 10-13-12-30 first, then 11-14-14-32...
Will try again probably monday.
Maybe the problem is just me. Though, this CPU boots easy at 2400+.
Meanwhile will make LN2 ice cream.
Sigh.
^^ Good morning TA! PM me if you need help with anything, I really haven't done any 3d in ages, all 2d and really 90% of that is pcm05. :)
The Chaintech Zenith ZNF3 Ultra reminds me of the Gigabyte X58A OC... :D
If you want to add points to the team do what Sam said and dig up your old hardware, like S754, buy a few chips on ebay and clock them up. That's where we're lacking many points.
If you wanted to bench the GTX 670 you'd need a very strong setup to push it ( 6GHz+ Ivy ).
It's still much better than my best DDR3 submission... ;)
It's so hot today, the forecast expects 38°. Now it's noon and it's already over the 30° mark... This is the only thing I'll be doing all day: :toast2:
That sucks! :(
I'll keep trying though.
Got half my dewar left, will play with it all night.
got another malay chip yesterday... 2933 bootable on air again...
my current 24/7 rig is x58 3540 xeon on x58 asus sabertooth which ive never run on cold. I have a 2x ivy 3770k and a ud3h and max gene ive never run on cold.
for 754 I have the zenith and the dfi nf3 ultra. what to insulate 1st? the x58 is my 24/7 gaming rig. I took my raid setup off/ I have been on a hitachi 2tb death star for the past summer and my lsi raid set has been collecting dust. I am about to take the x58 off and plug in the m5gene for my 24/7 gaming rig and run the lsi rig on it. I took the lsi off because of the cup but steve has it all so there is no point of me taking it off. my dewar tipped and the top is no longer flush. I called taylor wharton and they said I should either leave it or fill it with water in the shower and try to tip it the other way so it lines up again. thats not it. Ive been scared to do ln2 since clarksdale. its pathetic. I have all this overclocking crap and not using it.
Alright, I will be of no help for DDR3 in team cup.
Tweaked for 2 hours and got up to ...1372 before it BSOD'ed once, which is exactly the same that I had before on my other CPU. Most of the time, ~1320+ it is extremely unstable.
Maybe my board is the problem?
This ram is not the same ram I used before, this kit is a little weaker, but more vdimm and even 11-15-15-35, then also ram on LN2 is not helping the problem. Played with drive strengths and skews "Time/Delay", plugged in some numbers "The Stilt" was happy to let me cheat with for 2400+, then experimented with, did nothing too.
Board is soaking wet from RAM on LN2, will have to let it dry out and try again Friday.
Time to try a different slot I guess.
EDIT:
We're rocking now. :)
Booted DDR3-2700
EDIT:
Broke out the hair dryer... :(
EDIT #3:
Looks like I killed a Bulldozer.
After drying the motherboard in the oven at 90c for 2 1/2 hours, (after cloth dry) I went and tried again.
Booted right up, went into bios, started to adjust settings and pull down the pot, and the system rebooted again. This time it just stuck on CPU_LED, like it was when I started the drying process earlier.
I found some magic though, turns out best-by far clocking slot on air is not the best slot on LN2...
Maybe my CPU is worth something too, will give it a go if board isn't dead.
Sorry loud :(
Tearing down soon, will try to dry again and give it more time this time (a few days) before trying again. Was running 1.575v CPU and 1.55v CPU-NB at full pot and DDR3-2840 ram when it all blew up.
dude, you are going through alot of hardware death. I would re-evaluate my insulation solution if I were you.
Let's see...
Back of board is liquid electrical taped, 4 coats. Board sits on paper towels.
Socket area is erasered, with paper towels, then armaflex gasket. Ram slots are taped off, and VRM heatsink has paper towels stuffed in any open area.
It came back after sitting and drying a day, just tested and board posts again
I am killing things though...
Maybe I should just vaseline everything
vaseline will cause memory headaches just fyi. use it, but sparingly.
How?
I think VRM would be safer vaselined, that's all I'm worried about really.
But I don't want to use vaseline unless I have to, eraser is reusable, isn't super messy and doesn't cost $$.
Regardless, I have benched for 7 hours+ full pot before without issue too with current method.
So far I've killed
1 kit PSC
MIVE
Maybe 2600K
ASUS 890FX M4A89TD
955 BE, developed coldbug -110c, subsequently died
trans_am's A75-UD3H (this board died on air H70 with stock settings)
possibly loud_silence's 3870K, in which case I'll help with RMA ship costs
I think the 955 BE and Llano stuff was just freak accident, moisture could have gotten the 2600K and MIVE, it was my first time insulating that platform. M4A89TD vaporized a PCB trace in a gaming rig with 1.5v PSC, something wrong there...not my fault, after repairs killed itself again on air...
As a matter of fact, my Pi were still working in trans_am's Llano board, all 4GB, so they didn't die in the MIVE.
Sigh,
I've got 1 hour and a half to get DDR3 ram clock out of the way. Gonna get on that.
why such a limited amount of time? i thought the stage closes on the 31st
i ment vaseline in the dimm slots btw. vrm it wont matter.
I go back to school the 27th, and have an event with friends to be at tonight. Been doing lots of shopping lately too, not sure if weekend will be open.
I know, you mean must be bad connection with vaseline?
Only got 1463 MHz (DDR3-2926) - HWBOT is down anyway
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2486705
Ram was on LN2, seemed to help a little bit. -55c RAM, -190 CPU.
Tried up to 1.675v vcore, 1.6v CPU-NB, 1.9v RAM
I have a few L LN2 left, maybe if I have time tomorrow night I'll swap CPUs and try the same thing with mine. Otherwise, gonna set up RDRAM for submission and call it done.
i have put up 3000+ for ddr3 if you cant get it going a little higher over the weekend i will re-visit ram clocks. im pretty sure there is more in the imc.
Liquified vaseline on ram slots with hair dryer before each benching session.
Congrats to ZenEffect for finally reaching the magic DDR3-3000!
If I were you I'd run one of the Ivy chips on the Z77 board I like better... Sounds like fun to me! :)
