around 2.7-2.8 an air maybe more from water. The 175's seem to be the only one to be breaking 2.9-3.0 on air...or water that and the 170's
Dragon
Probably what I'm getting with the same chip, 2.55 - 2.60 (from Monarch today). Not very exciting but a lot of chip for 299.00....Quote:

last screenie of my 165
Alright gang... Decided to pop the top on my 180 tonight and see what she could do. First thing I noticed right off the bat was the 12+*c temp drop, definately something wrong with the contact between the core and my waterblock. She now runs at 38*c full load @ 1.64vcore, not too shabby, before she was at or above 50*c at the same voltage.
Next thing I noticed was the ability to clock to 2.9ghz easily (still priming for stability but the preliminary results look good!).
Here are a few shots of her naked and also priming at 2.9, just hoping she stays stable! If so it looks as if I might have a winner for the new phase unit that chilly is putting together for me. Prime's only been running for about 30 mins in the screeny but as you can see it's not instantly erroring out which means I have a pretty good chance of being able to make this chip 2.9 100% prime stable.
Yay for naked 180! :woot:
Oh and here's the CPU-Z link for anyone who cares, hehe... http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=58588
I dont have the nuts to pop the top on a $300 cpu  let alone a $500 one.
To scared the core will chip or crack.
Mines seems to have exceeded my expectations, right now its at 300x9 with 1.425vcore. Just needs to pass the 8 hour prime test tonight :D
Jesus where are they $500? I just got mine like a month ago and shelled out $800 for it!
I took my chances on a newegg proc knowing that it's more expensive than monarch and that newegg chips in general seem to be shat batched.... But, when u have $6000 worth of credit to play with at newegg the toys seem to usually come from there, lol.
naked is bad
look at this, i did that it's better:

less dangerous 4 the core and better contact between heatsink and cpu :)
170 opty 0546XPMW from mwave
2.83 ghz with 1.5 volts (bios)

edit: oops forgot to refresh my a64 tweaker before i took the SS. :)
Naked might be bad for you... :p Be xtreme, pop the top! lolQuote:

Dp these cpus have cold bug? I was thinking about getting a 165 and putting it under an adjustable cascade (-50c to -80c).
yes :(
Went for 8 hour dual prime stable, and core 0 couldnt take it, the second one seems to be the stronge one.

So i turned the voltage up a little and now theyre both stable, 300x9 @ 1.45
<img src="http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y147/Typicalsloan/2700-.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
goin to try for 2.8 but i dont think the first core will make it without more vcore, and i dont think i want to give it more.
Did u guy's select that XPMW ? or just lucky ?
I have just ordered a new 170 it will arive 02-01-06 so i wil have to wait a week ore 3. I hope i can do 2.8 ghz. My last 4400+ had 2650 As max ! 1.65v and my 165 did 2550 @ 1.6. So no luck for me :) My venice is doing 2850 @ 1.61v that quite nice. So i'm hoping for 2.8 ghz dual core.
Hi guys, excuse my laziness as i will be honest in admitting I don't feel like reading 43+ pages of this thread among others for an answer.
I just got myself an ATI X1800XT card and am severely limited on my old and cheasy Winchester 3200+ @ 2.48GHZ. I want to jump the gun and get myself an Opteron 175 Dual core cpu but am unsure what to check for. I am not going to order online as my local shop can stock these. I just want to know what to look for. If anyone could be so kind as to take a few minutes to answer the following it would be greatly appreciated.
1.) What stepping SHOULD I look for in regards to both date code and last 4 digit code.
2.) What stepping SHOULDN'T I go for.
3.) Anything else I should know/check for if the cpu is in my hands for inspection?
I have had very crappy luck with cpus for years now. My Mobile Barton only did 2.4ghz which is crap compared to others. This winchester is no different. For ONCE I would like a good, fast cpu as changing one is quite the effort in my case. I am hoping for 2.6ghz 1M cache 110% stable on each core. Obviously this can't be guaranteed but if anyone knows a way to better my chance please do share.
Thanks guys.
You could at least read the last 2 pages. But the 0546 XPMW looks verry nice 2.8 ghz @ 1.4v if u have a good one. Its alway's a guess.Quote:

but depends on the chip i think
this is on water but it's not high end water.Quote:

Thanks for the response KamE38,

need some help here since i got the exact same stepping as you ... but i can't hit 2.8 here...
Here are my end results @ 2.9ghz on water...
Core 0 ended up lasting 10+ hours before erroring out, I'm totally happy with that! Viva la DC Opty!
