Well I guess we now know that this board does support higher than the 8247s.
it probably supports all barcelona processors
Yeh the delivery charge is harsh on that! Even shipping to the USA is only $30 cheaper than to the UK. Hell even shipping to Hong Kong (where the seller is) costs as much to ship to as the UK :ROTF:
Well according to ebay he has 337 left for sale...
Maybe another XS group buy is in order, I'd jump on it this time because the CPU's and PSU are bundled in.
Well cost wise for both of my systems including all shipping to the UK.
Motherboards: £75 each
4x8346HE: £85 (£22 each)
8x1GB ECC DDR2-667: £56 (£7 each)
PSU: £30 each
CPU cooling: £50 per system
Total per system is under £300. Just over half the price of the one found on ebay.
When you put it like that it makes me wish i had jumped on the last XS bulk buy :(
What I did instead was buy two Athlon X2 5000's (both unlocked to quads) and overclocked them to 2.86GHz, those two return just under 30k WCG PPD. Both systems costing about £140 each to build.
However for badge hunters, core count is better than PPD.
I wonder if shoota has any spare boards for sale :D
I don't think he does... but I might have a board for sale if I can't find any CPU's for it :(
Found a great deal on a power supply:
Rosewill Libertas Series LIB-650 650W
Looks to have three EPS connectors already. It's super cheap too!
Ok so I'm looking at cheap video cards for the Arima-Google-plex-Megatron motherboard. I'm thinking if I go PCI then I can probably get a passively cooled one, save on energy as well as bonus fan noise.
I still don't have a cooling solution. CoolerMaster is not returning my emails on returning the incorrect heatsink/fans they sent me. So will any socket 939 cooler work? As long as it has a small foot print right? To get to those CPU sockets that are right next to each other and clear the memory banks...thanks for the help guys!
:yepp:
according to the newegg specs on that one, it's only got one 4+4/8pin connector
I had picked up an XFX 650W XXX edition for my tyan board (its got 2 EPS connectors, board needed 2 eps and a 4pin)
80+ bronze, same price as the rosewill (after a MIR mind you) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817207002
Thanks for putting that in perspective Jacka
Somehow I don't think the bump from 1.8 to 2.3 is worth £200... Oh well
I was comparing the cost to a 860 build as I thought somewhere in this thread someone had said that the ppd was comparable?

:D
Now to come up with some sort of chassis to house all this stuff....
Wow, Sparky, that is nice! I've never done water cooling. What are you up to in parts so far?
yeah that only has one eps (as most psu's do). compusa has ati pci cards for like $12 or $13, works great. any 939 heatsink will do but make sure it can handle the TDP of these quads they're slightly warm under full load.
did you see this suggestion at the top of the page? you won't find a better deal, better hurry tho the promo code won't last forever.
that's sick! i can't wait to see the final result. i miss my rad :(
I ordered up the Rosewill one I linked to.
I also ordered up these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103075
They look like they'll do. Of course I'll do testing before I go right to 100% load on the Google-plex-Megatron build....
I will.
By chassis I mean something to mount everything to. I'm not going to make a case, just an open air multi-bracket basically :yepp: Just trying to determine how to go about it, what material to use and all that http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eadscratch.gif
Very nice Sparky. :)
Unfortunately the person I was going to buy buying the water blocks off claims not to have received an email I sent telling him all of the items I want to buy and asking him to check if they had enough in stock.
Odd that he never received it when my delivery report says he did.
I'll keep looking for suitable blocks, but failing that it looks like I'll be on air.
FedEx came today with my last part I needed, the four 8350's that means build day Saturday or maybe I'll build it tonight.
are these an OK alternate to the CPU's we were originally looking at? http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-Third-Genera...781932?pt=CPUs
they are $40 more each, but I can't seem to find anything anywhere near the price of the other ones shoota originally linked to
They should work. It's probably worth emailing the seller to see if he can do a better price if you buy 4 of them.
yeah i tried "that is the bottom price" was his response. i'll debate a bit before i jump in and buy it. i feel like a schmuck paying more than 2x what the others were :slap:
yeah but you're getting 100 MHz per cpu more than us for a grand total of 400 MHz lol! You're gonna kill us in the long run.
edit: just thought of something. $65 x 4 = $260
maybe you should make an offer for four of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-OPTERON-QUAD...ing_Components
At listed price four would be $360. If you can get him to accept an offer then for just a little more you get faster cpu's at the same TDP. Just a thought.
Edit 2: That misleading ad is only for one processor. But you catch my drift here. Search ebay and make some offers, who knows you might get lucky.
worst part is that about a year or so ago, it wasnt impossible to find 8356 procs for ~70 each
I started putting it together tonight. Started with one chip to see if it would post, and now I'm going to add the other 3 and get this thing on the grid.:yepp:
Seeing as the water block sale fell through, I'm having to look at other options.
What do you think of these?
http://www.dynatron-corp.com/upload/...8573.31251.jpg
http://www.dynatron-corp.com/en/prod...v=&id=114&in=0
They're rated for use on 95W TDP (75W ACP) CPUs so they should be fine on mine (79W TDP (55W ACP)).
