awesome:)
Finally got my 24/7 system configured.
For 4ghz, I was just putting thru too much voltage to be comfortable (1.376v idle, 1.344v load, CPU-z read). Well, that would have been okay, had it been stable, but I didn't want to put more volts through it to get it stable (maybe would have taken 1.4? We dunno yet if these chips can handle it!) I dropped it down to 1.328 (1.29v load, CPU-Z once again) and am happy with the overclock I currently have. I primed it for 23 hours... stable enough, I'm certain. :P I also dropped the VTT volts to the lowest setting, as you can see in Smartguardian. I tweaked the GTLs and am happy with the results. I now have a system I feel comfortable running 24/7 :)

Performance level 6, etc. Going to try to tweak for lower... we'll see. :)
Now that I finally got my setup running, I can join this discussion :D
Kinda forgot, but is it a big deal if I see a huge 10C difference between the cores? One's at 19 the other is at 28. I have a feeling the 19 is under-reporting, as that fluctuates between 3-4C's - even at idle, for no reason. OTOH, when applying a load, the increase in temperature is steady on the second core... so hopefully just bad sensors (and not bad thermal contact inside)?
about the lowest VID eh. When I use vista I got a VID of 0.975 when using XP: I got 1.05, this was the same with my Q6600, vista shows lower vid then XP does.. in my case.

vid depends on ACPi reading
so not true.
even coretemp is wrong by 0.1v..
best way to see vid is on the box itself.
hence ppl with 0.985 vid.. if its true their box will be showing 1.085v max..
AFAIK..
Both of my E8400's had one "jumpy" core, with the idle temps fluctuating up and down constantly. Other posters have noticed this also. Seems to be a normal anomoly with these Wolfdale's. My first E8400 was 17C/34C at idle, it's replacement is 38C/38C at idle with the exact same settings, but one core does flicker up and down from 38C to 32C, for no particular reason.Quote:

since ure using asus.. hmm i had a weird problem on the maximus and mem
this was a transition from e6850 to e8400 on bios 0907
i was fed up i flashed it to 0902.. and no probs.. and temps was more less accurate to my temp probe
then i reflash it to 0907..
now its working fine and the temps also differ.. weird aint it.
I thought core temps aren't tied into BIOS? Just frakin' inaccurate sensors. I suppose 28C's is more realistic anyway, seeing as I'm only on air. Not sure if it was this thread, but someone was using cascade (spelling?) and said that his core wouldn't even detect temperatures below 27C's - it just stopped there.
My e8400 just came in today! I will complete my new system once I am done with classes today. That includes the 5 hour class I have starting at 5:00pm :shakes:
PS: This is going to be my first PC that I built and my first CPU that I am going to overclock  (CANT WAIT!)

I have strange VID values too...
EIST enabled VID 1.1125
EIST disabled VID 1.0375
Think my retail will show up tomorrow. Hope my board like it :)
had a q750a e8400 and it needed 1.43 volts real to be orthos stable changed it for this q745a533 and this one is orthos stable so far at 1.272 volts, at 4050mhz

Yeah the power management being disabled or not can change the vid reading.
About the box though, I think all of the boxes all say 1.225v max. I have two of these e8400s and they both say the same max v on the box but core temp reads one at 1.100v and the other at 1.0875v.
I got my 8400 today with an abit IP35 dark raider motherboard.

You guys think it's a good one?
GLENBOY, whats the longest you have ran orthos so far?
I need suggestions on this, i have my ram running at DDR2-890 / 5-5-5-18 / 2.1v (stock 1.9v), they feel pretty warm to the touch, on the edge of calling it hot. I bought a ram cooler but it doesn't fit. Should i lower it to 2.0v, do you think it would be stable, or do you think its fine as it is?
:woot: today i broke 612fsb with Asus commando
