Hello.
I now have a p4 lga775 setup with intel 925 chipset and i want to upgrade
to p35. I have browsed all the p35 motherboards and gigabyte p35-ds4
and p35-dq6 are by far the best of all.
I read the thread here and have found that many people have all sorts of
trouble with it. Most problems have been solved by rmaing the board but
this comes to many faulty boards.
Do you suggest to me to buy this board ?
I will use the Q6600 with it (maybe the C2D6850 but 99% i will use the
Quad). I don't do much overclocking and maybe later i try to overclock it
but only how much it goes without messing with the voltages. I will only
raise the fsb.
I now use Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and i will either use that
or the thermaltake big typhoon 120 which has so many good critics.
I have 4 other (older) gigabyte boards and they work flawlessly for years,
but i fear because of what i have read here.
1) Do you think i should buy the ds4 or the dq6 ?
2) Is it true what some people say that air coolers can't cool the quad
and it can only be cooled enough with water cooling ? I don't want to use
water cooling.
Thank you for your answers.
For P35 DQ6,
I figured out why my OC was stable on bios F4 turbo and not on F5 turbo, and now have it stable on F5 standard, with much better memory controller performance on F5 standard. (E6850 OC 3.83 9x426)
F4 bios settings of standard, turbo, extreme all set the "performance level" to 11 and "other timings" to 4 42 11 13 10 3 8 3 4 2 on memset 3.3.
F5 bios setting of standard has "performance level" at 11, and the "other timings" looser than F4 bios setting, and they changed an unknown setting that significantly improves the memory controller.
F5 bios setting of turbo, has "performance level" set to 6 (which would also improve memory controller but is what crashes my system's OC, I think), and "other timings" set back to the same tighter settings listed on F4.
I did not try F5 extreme.
I used F5 bios standard "performance level" of 11, and manually changed the "other timings" to same as F4 bios settings (also same as F5 turbo).
So theoretically on F5 standard (with manual change of timings to F4 turbo), I am using the exact same settings as F4 turbo. But clearly they changed another setting in F5 bios that improved memory controller performance (performance level also enhances memory controller performance but on 11 setting in both instances)
F5 standard (with timings and performance level same as F4 turbo)
Sisoft Sandra memory bandwidth is 7700/7600 and
everest memory read 8600, latency 57
(average of 5 readings, all very close)
F4 turbo
Sisoft Sandra memory bandwidth is 7200/7180 and
everest memory read 7600, latency 65
(average of 5 readings, all very close)
I wish the DQ6 would let me get to rest of settings via bios, definitely a little irritating.
Edit: Hmmm...after manually setting all timings I can boot into turbo and extreme on F5. And now reading performance level 7 on all 3 (standard, turbo, extreme), so maybe that was the only factor for increasing performance of memory controller. Gigabyte P35 DQ6 is pretty good performance wise, but their BIOS SUCKS.
i see new Rev 1.1 for DQ6 the NB cooler has shrinked anyone know the other changes ?
New review of the P35-DQ6:

Guys, i'll be dumping my P35 soon in favour of the Gigabyte X38...so i won't be posting here much longer. I always like to have the next best thing when it comes out.
So, for the average Joe like me whose board came with BIOS F4 and doesn't OC (Yeah i know--I need to decide on CPU cooling 1st)--is there an reason to go to F5 bios?

P35C-DS3R, F4i beta bios:

Can i add, Giagbyte now list three revisions for the P35-DS4, Rev 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0...just downloading the Rev 2.0 manual now to see if anything is different.
The heatpipes design has changes, it'll be the same design used on the upcoming X38 boards.
Interesting!...revision 2.0 of the P35-Ds4 has overhauled the I/O back panel connectors.. Serial and parallel ports are gone, 8 USB ports and two firewire ports.
Parallel (LPT) and Serial (COMA) ports have been added to the PCB.
Can somebody tell me how exact work Dual Bios function. When i make my bios to fail it appears me a screen and its write on it :
Looking for Bios Image in Hard drive......
Dual Bios Auto Recoverying....................................... ......................
My Rig resterting and then...again the same :(
No absolutely not. Unless you have some issues that you might get rid of with a newer BIOS
Nice, I ran the Realtek sound for a couple of weeks but my X-Fi Fatal1ty is better so I put that back inside.
Yeah THATS about time, I don't see any use for a LPT even though a COM can sometimes still be used for old stuff.
Heres my small tests on my GA-P35 DQ6..
Vdim at 2,6v vcore in bios 1,48-1,56v, bios F4.

All is done with TTbig and double delta 120mm.
I have a question is there anybody that know whwre to find the measuring points like Vcore ,Vdimm because i think it's undervolt a bit.
Would be glad if i can measure my vcore and Vdim
i just upgraded to new bios
now i cant save bois settings
i reflashed to older bois same result
not even easytune will let me overclock the board verry funny
i guess these bioards dont like 500fsb 24/7
funny i turned power off from back n after 2 min it fixed itself
I'm on my third P35-DQ6 now. The first one blew my psu and took my ram with it (ocz 700w). The second one had severe stability issues in dual channel. I've tried four different brands and none worked. My first suspicion is that the separate nuts for the nb cooler doesn't give enough pressure to the heatsink. Any experiences on this?
I went back to bios p5e on p35 ds3r, it feels more stable. Also memory performance modes work in p5e not like in p5.
Did vdroop on the board. Temps remain about the same, maybe 1c better, with bios vcore lower by 0.05 for the same oc. Man my cpu sucks.
I replaced my Asus P5K Premium with the GA-P35-DQ6 after having some SATA issues with the Asus. I just received it today from Newegg and it turned up as a revision 1.0 board with the large “Silent-Pipe”.Quote:

I am very impressed with the quality of this board so far. Asus has been my primary motherboard brand for a long time but this Gigabyte seems to be just as good if not better.
One question for those that have some experience with the BIOS on this board, is there a way to stop the scanning for drives when the system is booting up? I have two Raptors in RAID 0 and one SATA DVD burner on the Intel ports and a DVD burner on the IDE port.

Hi chef. Nice to see you here as well.
I think there have been numerous post about where to measure the vdimm and vcore. In this thread actualy, I just don't have time to search for you so you go ahead and look...
I have a tip for you if you want som ekiller SuperPi.
If you set RAM to 1:1 with the setup in this picture: your image.
Then I'm sure you get half a second off or so. I have tried the difference between 1:1 and ASYNC and you really need som killer high RAM to beat the 1:1.
Actually I did not beat my own record with 1:1 even when reaching 1250MHz on the RAM.
So either you get 1:1 or you get about 1200+ to get the same result.
