Quick question;
I just got my Connect3D X1800XL the other day. Haven't done much with it [other issues to deal with] but I've recently started to play with it. Using ATI Tool .25 beta 10 I get artifacts with everything at stock, nothing major but still stuff pops up.
Also I've heard that .12 and .13 drivers are generally bad so I went with the 5.11's, since installing them I don't have the CCC and can't find a place to disable VPU recover, help?
The artifacts that u see in ATI tool is normal. It is an improved 3D/scanning method to increase the heat generated. It does not work well with X1800s yet.
You can disable it from Settings --> Artifact Scanning --> Use old scanning method
and get beta 11 while ur at it ;)
Bah, my card hardlocks at 550 core and/or 1.175 vCore. Ram hit 630 then locked [locked, no artifacts at all], didn't go above 2v on the ram.
umm, help? would the Sapphire BIOS help at all or did I just land a poor clocker?
try less vcore, mine locks at 1.175 even at stock speed, once i figured that out I got my mem up to 750:banana:Quote:

and will alternate cooling help at all? I'm on stock ATM [50c idle, 70-75c load]
I hate to tell u this but...honestly...ur card is like mine...it just won't clock well.
1.175v is unstable in most cases...anything above hard locks right away.
I'm doing 630/693 with 1.175/2.1/2.0 on water, ramsinks, and 2 80mm cards below it.
New 3DMark05 score:

I love it
Anybody know if there is a X1800xt (256mb) bios that could be used to flash these cards?
Think a few did some bios flashes but with the 512mb bios's and such and no luck. You got to make sure it can run at the voltages before you even attempt a flash I think otherwise you could be in for a serious problem.Quote:

It would boot into 2d - but the card is not recognized by the driver as a valid ATI card. Thus not luck. I tried with various bioses multiple times. Might just be my card - but proceed with caution.Quote:

yes, it is.
Okay, just an update on my card.
When using the OverClocker tool alone [NO ATITool] I've run 3D05 @ 580 / 657 with voltages of 1.15, 2.05, 2.00 and I'm still going, no artifacts in site, stock cooling.
But is there any reason why ATI Tool would cause my hard to hardlock at 550 core, 620 mem or any real voltage change? and more importantly can I set my card to boot with the voltage & clock increases?
Finally, with the 580 / 1.3 run I had my Winny @ 2.2ghz, 220mhz 2-2-2 on the RAM and got 8k in 05, it seemed kinda low compared to what everyone else is nabbing but is it just the lower clocks?
thanks
EDIT: Just an update, I've got things running smoothly now, I use the OverClock tool to set voltages and clocks then if i close that and use ATITool I can run the artifact scanner & save profiles which I believe I can boot into Windows with, going to try some lower clocked versions first though to be sure.
Final clocks ATM are;
Stock Cooling, Antec SuperLanboy case
[120mm intake & exhaust, IMO good cable hiding, sound card in bottom PCI slot, PCI cover next to XL off to let air in]
everything else as the sig reads
X1800XL
580mhz core, 1.35ghz ram
1.15 vGPU, 2.05 MVDDR, 2.00 MVDDQ [in Overclock tool]
1.125 vGPU, 2.037 MVDDR, 1.987 MVDDQ [reported in ATI Tool]
hopefully with have watercooling up and running soon
I don't think that the problem is only in clocks, because I ran at much higher clocks (738 Core/720 Mem) and I get a simillar result as you. But in my case the fault may lie on bad cpu (Prescott 3.2@3.8), but still.

Hi everyOne.:) These are my results. One pic on default
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/4390/23tw.th.jpg
Next is with Overclocker tool
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/1258/18jp.th.jpg
Strange e?Really high clocks but low score.
Next,It happens something strange.Used Ati tool n got with lower clocks better score!

And last, pushed it to these clocks. But stopped cause I have stock cooling...These cards are Hottt...

The only thing for sure is that these cards have something like a cold bug.
Same hereQuote:

I think the reason for your scores is that ATI Tool does not loosen the RAM timings whereas the OC tool does
My Asus EAX1800XL doesnt seem to be able to go over 564 on the core and the ram seems to not like being at 600. Using the Overdrive features in catalyst crash most 3d apps. Im thinking my card is a rotten egg for oc'ing
I'm fairly sure enabling overdrive is bad for OCing the XL. You need to disable all ATI based services [run services.msc].
Also apparantly you're supposed to use ATI Tool to set voltages & error check whilst using the Overclock tool to set clocks [if that's the case then all my Ocing has been stock voltes :O]
I am using only Ati Tool to overclocking.
Max stable 630mhz / 700mhz voltages : 1.125 / 2.060 /2.0 v
If I try to up the vgpu the card is not stable anymore.
Is the core crap or what? Using water cooling , max temps are below 40c
Even in stock speeds if I up the vgpu voltage 1.150 or more its not stable anymore.
Is there anything I can do? Any similar results?
I have a real big problem.. My card is not stable at all when temps go below 55'C.. It's very weird. The card started artefacting and erroring after I changed the default cooler to zalman VF700-Cu.. At first I didn't understand what was wrong but yesterday I opened the window to do some OC and windows crashed(default clocks) after some 10 seconds.. The way it crashes is also weird - everything goes on, I just can't see anything on the monitor.. Sometimes I get weird stripes on a black background instead of the already usual blackscreen.. Should I RMA it or something?
Ow, missed post my results ;)
Here I tested for max voltage on the core, looks like no more than 1.3v on XL GPU :( But with that I was able to hit 700 Mhz core, memory I will clock later, but 700 Mhz I can get!
For 24/7 usage at the moment I am useing 1.25v @ 650 Mhz, looks ok at the moment, here are my results of lock up from GPU, votages and clocks:
ATITool 0.25 b12 3D stabile for lockups some minutes!
VGPU Core Overclock Mhz
1.075v 550
1.100v 575
1.125v 594
1.150v 610
1.175v 630
1.200v 640
1.225v 659
1.250v 675
1.275v 685
1.300v 702
Looks pretty ok for XL core :toast: Hope to get somewere from 670 - 690 for 24/7 :woot:
I bought a Connect3D X1800XL from newegg. Had it for about 3 weeks. It put out artifacts from day 1 and it has NEVER been overclocked. I even tried to significantly downclock it just to see what would happen and it still artifacts. I've got a replacement on the way (RMA), but I wonder if it will help, or if Connect3D's supply of chips is bad??? They use the ati reference board so that shouldn't be an issue, but who knows. I've got 36 amps on 12v (total) btw, so thats not the problem. I think the fan is making a grinding sound after the computer has been off for a while, too.Quote:

im waiting for a x1800xl too , here in portugal they continue too expensive and i cant find a shop that shiping to portugal :(
i have too wait , but they are nice cards ;)
