where can i get B6R bios:confused:
Hey, replace the NB sink and bend the heatpipe upwards, leaving it on - its a double win, that way you have the original NB sink cooling the PWM's rather then adding load, and the nb runs cooler with the aftermarket cooling too. it brought my PWM load temps to less then 65 with 1.6v, and it dropped my NB temps into the 30's.
I may do that, but the warranty will be kinda fragile after that. 'Guess I'll buy one Thermalright HR-05 or Noctua NC-U6. Which one is better with fanless cooling? I had HR-05 SLI a few months ago and it was great, and if I look closer on the board I think it will be a wiser decision. Scythe Infinity is pretty big and there is some space near to my 7900GT.
LOL. :D
Same here, buzz-buzz-buzz. :slap:
I dont hear any buzz-buzz-buzz at all. And my pc i silent overall.
The only problem i have with my sys is that i cant get my sys stable at 3,7 ghz.
Temp is not the issue here but when i run occt after a while or something like that i get bluescreen and pc reboots. I even change mobo votlages setting to max and cpu to 1.52in bios showing 1.46 in uguru at load and mems to 2.4 but still same problem. I dont know though if the v-core dropps even more but uguru dosent show it, have to test it some more later now that i'm using the 1.1 bios.
Where do I find this B6R bios? Is it just the latest bios here?

No, thats not it. I think you have to PM Rich on the Abit forums.
my PWN temps idle around 32*, and never pass 48*c w/ load. I just removed every thing under the HS and replaced w/ a tiny bit of AS5 covered w/ Thermalright TIM. I also added recently a 70mm fan mounted on the side. I'll take a pic soon.
Here are some pic's I just took off my phone, so bad quality.
This shows why its important to remove the stock copper sinks and replace the TIM, look at the terrible job abit does, with the small off center grain of TIM:

And heres the bottom of the sink:

Also here is the bottom of the copper sink used on NB/pwn: I think just removing all this stuff under the sinks is the best idea, this helped my temps the most:

Here are my idle temps of cpu,chipset/pwn, this is only by removing the gunk under the sinks, and replacing with AS5 and Thermalright paste for the PWNs w/ a bit of AS5, I since also added a 70mm fan on the Pwns, just to do it:

So far I'm really liking this MB, with the exception of all the problems I initially had out of the box w/ stock bios.
just seen bios 13 can be downloaded from abit's ftp site in tw:
ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/ab9quadgt/
BIOS release V13 for AB9 QuadGT
Release information:
1. Fixed the onboard ethernet may disappeared after running mem86.
2. BIOS compiled date: 04/18/2007
you bet
last flash i did went wrong.....had to hotflash the board to get it back to work again
i hope they solve the ps2 issues....its a real pita.....last night i lost control of the keyboard and mouse like 4 times.....
i switched to usb and things were fine for a couple of reboots...then i lost the usb....had to swith to ps2......and then i lost ps2 again...switch to usb....yada.....
i am beggining to get really pissed of with this board ......
very fast board but with issues that i cant consider normal......like negative temps.....:woot:
how come an enthusiast board cant read negative temps.....:slapass:
will they fix it.....or is a sensor problem and never will be fixed....anyone has a feedback about this...?
Can someone send me the B6R bios? I'm using the official 11 version. My 1st time fiddling with a C2D system, and 1066 strap is the highest one? I can't seem to stay stable beyond 1400FSB, changing only the multi to 6x and ram to 1:1. How far does the MCH voltage have to be changed?
LOL I updated to 13 bios and I have no more ethernet...
let me know when they improve memory performance
They run quite well. I am 100% stable all the way up to 508x7 and from 508-512 I can run orthos blend but it craps out after about 3 hours. Over 502 FSB I have to ramp up the voltage from 1.465Vcore to 1.49 to remain stable so I prefer to stay at 500.
My mem voltage is 2.2V and anything over 502 I have to ramp it up to 2.25V. At 508 and up I need 2.3V and Mch of 1.70 so again, I prefer to stay at 500 which seems to be my sweetspot
As to timings I can set 5-5-5-12 instead of 5-5-5-15 but thats it @ 500FSB+. It won't hold any lower timings and I have tried, but at this high a FSB its not really needed. All in all very good memory imo. I ran mbench and got some decent numbers
Abit QuadGT 500 1:1 500 5-5-5-12-(no subtimigs)
Intel P6 processor (CPUID = 6f6) @ 5000.0MHz
Instruction set support : MMX SSE SSE2
Access latency 51.2 ns (256 clocks)
Read datarate (INT) 7614 Mb/s
Write datarate (INT) 2811 Mb/s
Read datarate (MMX) 8286 Mb/s
Write datarate (MMX) 2799 Mb/s
Read datarate (SSE) 8630 Mb/s
Write datarate (SSE) 9044 Mb/s
Thats not too shabby for $170 memory :)
Your sticks perform similar to mine ballistix 6400 that i bought in jan-fab for about 3400 euro so yeah for 170 bucks that is totally sweet. But im very dissapointed in the QuadGt's mem oc cus i expected like 600 mhz oc on the mems but i guess that the quad gt is not as good as the new dfi board.
I am very tempted to buy the ballistix 8500 series but dunno if they are worth it to run with the quadgt.
Anyone flashing the new BIOS and noticed any benefit. I can't believe they jumped from 1.1 to 1.3 with but an ethernet fix. Unless someone can report some benefit I see no reason to risk the change since my ethernet is working just fine.
Yeah they won't do 1200mhz for me either. I tried to do that at a lower FSB but it would not post. I got as high as 1150mhz into windows though I didn't test long stability, just a few Super Pi runs. I think 1150 is the limit on the board, not the ram as 1150 from 1066 is not that high an OC for this memory.
Abit needs to tweak this bios now that they have the kinks worked out but with the new chipset here I wonder if they will work on this board any longer. I hope so. Subtimings would be nice.
Have they fixed the RAID HDD & SATA DVD drive issues yet?
someone can you help with something
i wanna replace the TIM on the MB and SB and PWM area, most recomended Ceramique, Got one.
How do i use the the TIM, i just lay it on all the surface of the PWM area heatpipe sink ?, how thick it should be? how do you put it back on,
first the PWM area and then the NB in order to make proper contact? , how do you know if it makes good contact, before starting youre system, can you see some how?
need help , sure would be nice to have a guide as asus p5wdh does, from people who already did that and reported succes, because reading this thread i saw also many failed, to do it right from the first time
