On the badaxe 2 you have direct control over chipset strap with the reference frequency option. This option will change the FSB/Ram Ratio depending on the memory frequency and the reference frequency and the fsb frequency.

Because it is sometime a bit of a pain to calculate what your ram would run at with different settings, this calculator does the math for you.

Okay, so what is the reference frequency. Also, you show two difference memory speeds. I am going to need a more complete explanation. Thanks for the effort. :clap:

The "Reference Frequency" defines your strap - 133 is 667, 200 is 800, 266 is 1067, 333 is 133 (strap = 4x Ref Freq).

The "Memory Frequency" defines your ratio - a Mem Freq of 2x Reference is a 1:1 ratio, >2x is mem faster than fsb, <2x is mem slower than fsb (use his calc to figure out exactly how much).

Jeez this gets very complicated if you have ram that do say DDR2800@4-4-4-12 and want 400 fsb for 3600 assuming the e6600 can do it...what would be the best settings for

where do you set 1t/2t or is this not avail on this board since it is 975

my memory is 10th anniv. crucial which most have been able to get to DD2800(even though it is DD2 667)

A have tested my brand new D975XBX2 and there aren`t any adjustments to voltages or the bus speed and it`s impossible to overclock? Got a long warning list when i entered bios and sad YES to enabling oc but that didn`t help at all.

Latest BIOS Update 2395 [BX97520J.86A] was alreadly on the mb. It doesn`t have any cooling fins on the chips around the cpu either. Is this some new board from intel without oc abilities?

In bios I get this information.

No problems with raid here. You can't put all 8 drives in the same array because they're being managed by different controllers but you can certainly create 2 raid-0 arrays. I have a raid-5 on the intel controller and a raid-0 on the marvell.

I'm getting around 320 330 as my max. I still have a huge battery of testing that i'm gona run tonight to compare the 2 straps. I did some prelim stuff here:

from the table you can see that although latency is lower on the 800 strap, bandwidth is much higher on the 1066 strap. At the FSB speeds i chose as my starting point, it appears to be the cusp of where the bandwidth is starting to win out over the latency. Look for my results tomorrow. hopefully i have a better strat to show performance differences while neglecting the fact that i can't hit the exact same memory speeds.

So im probably gonna take 3 quad core system for 3D rendering, i feel like 750w is not enough for quad core + 4gigs of ram + 8 hard disk + 8800GTX

Well, think I have got pretty close to this chip's limits now, @410 FSB, 266 strap. Going up to the 333 strap didn't get me any farther, the CPU craps out long before the board does, or runs out of voltage options. Got a 5 hour Orthos run in at these settings, I'm sure it's good to go. Not bad though considering my P5W64 would only hit 375x9 stable with this chip ;p I think a little RAM tweaking is all that remains to have my 24/7 overclock tuned in.

If you are are really serious about this kind of RAID setup you should forget onboard RAID and get a decent RAID controller like the Areca series. Check this dude's setup out for what can be done with a Kenty and decent RAID...
