920/REII is dead and was working just prior to switching mobo's.
Had a working 980x in the REII before I started swapping boards, cases, cpu's.
Took the 980x and put it in a REIII which went into an Obsidian WCed rig.
Went to fire up the 920/REII and nothing. No beeps, no video, just the fans fire up. ROG display shows Welcome, then goes to the timer, nothing in between?
- Reset BIOS several times, via ROG reset, also pulled CMOS battery for a while.
- Hooked up different PSU, same thing.
- Reset CPU twice, checked and cleaned contacts on pcu and board.
- Tried different memory
- Tried different video card
- Removed board from case and tried everything again (shorting?)
All with the same results? No beeps from the CMOS has baffled?
Anyone experience this before and found a solution?
Anyone have anything else I can try ? This board was functioning fine with the 980x and the 920 before I moved it to another case?
when u press "start" button, wait about 10-15sec, if no picture displays, press "restart" button and wait 10-15sec, and if no picture dispalys restart so about 4-5 times and it should turn on i had the same problem
i had it, got as far as removing all the wc blocks and was about to pack it for rma when i pulled the battery, reset cmos a few times without power, then with power. put the battery back and it worked.
if i didnt have the CPU power cable in it would turn on and go straight to timer with no functions not even off. (checking the obvious)
Yea I did all the restarting, resetting BIOS a gazillion times, removing the battery, etc. still no go.
When I first bought this board had trouble with it and put electrical tape on all the stand offs, in order to get it working. But at least I had beeps from the board then. Now nothing, just the fans spin up :(
Hi guys i need help now i have problem with my Rampage II Extreme mobo and G.Skill Trident 6GB 2000Mhz i cant get my memory working stable on 2000Mhz -Windows 7 x64
i had the same problem with my old memory 6GB OCZ Blade 2000Mhz random BSOD and lockups they both run very stable on 1600Mhz but not on 2000Mhz
i didnt have this problem the first few months when i first get this mobo
i've tried every bios version (from 1406 to 1913) and settings that i can think of
my friend tells me that in asus forum have fix for this but i cant find it if anyone can help me i will really appreciate it
Why not back down to 4Ghz and 4000 uncore and give that a shot. What are your QPI volts at ? What is B2B at ?
Whats the max safe qpi for a watercooled CPU and standard (passive) cooled RIIE?
I'm running 1.45v qpi and can't get higher than 4ghz on it. Setting it any lower causes instability even at 4ghz.
i would not run over that, and do not forget 4ghz may be the limit for that chip just like mine.
bump ioh voltage
qpi voltage has more to do with memory than the cpu
yep i fix my memory problem it was the QPI voltage the mobo sets very low voltage this was the problem
sorry,but reading thread,not understund,what max safe voltage for 24/7 qpi/dram?
1,45 is ok?
yep even 1.65 is ok you can search in google for settings for your memory
I wouldn't call 1.65 vQPI safe for 24/7. There really is no 'safe' voltage above the absolute max intel spec, just voltages that people have used for relative time periods and had no failures or obvious degradation. 1.45 is around the top end that that range, 1.55 - 1.65 has been used but usually for shorter benching sessions.
Cryptic,szamz.
thanks,1.45 i think is ok.my ripjaws need 1.45 qpi at 1950mhz,but 2000 i cant manage.
i think,its motherboard problem.
i rise up to 1.50v qpi,but cant stable this sticks.
and second,i also have evga x58 sli3 mobo, with this i stable at 4.2 with HT on and memo 1600 without problem.with rampage i only have 4150 with HTon and memo 1550 or 19xx(dont remember).
i trying everything,but linx crashes more,than 4150.it not chip,i know,its mobo.my previus mobo was RE 775,it was great mobo,but this one...i dont know.
with evga was too easy overclock my chip, only cpu voltage and qpi voltage, other was on auto.
with rIIe it was harderer, same riseing cpu and qpi voltage, but chip not stable...
one thing, with evga was one gpu hd 5850,with rampage i trying sli with two gtx460.may be this is a problem?
thanks for the replys,my brain is stuck...
what is the last bios beta
I dont know if 2 cards makes much difference really, I was using 2 x GTX285's for quite awhile and didnt have to change anything compared to one of them or the GTX295 I use now. Always same vIOH (1.13v BIOS giving 1.11v real) and stock PCI-E voltage, only things I ever increased were Vtt and Vcore and I had 4500 MHz stable.
Strange thing this, and I wonder if you guys can help?
Upgraded my PSU to a Corsair Professional Series Gold AX 1200W PSU, the one it replaced was a Corsair TX750W, nothing else changed as regards my setup.
When turning PC on after leaving overnight, system seems to boot OK, but monitor seems to go into sleep mode?? A quick push of the reset button on front of PC and the system will boot normally with monitor OK. Dammed annoying to have to do this every cold boot.
I know the system must be booting OK in background as when it does start after reset, I get the option to 'start Windows normally' etc., which means it was probably booting OK first time, just I had nothing on the monitor.
If I shut PC down and start it and hour later, I don't get this problem, only when left overnight.
Upped BIOS from 1406 to 1504, no difference.
Got me stummped this one has
Many thx :)
CryptiK,zsamz thanks for the replys.
but I rolling back to evga.no problem with that mobo.only increasing vtt and vcore and 4.2 with HT stable.
with rIIe was only 4150.trying evrerything, changing bios and...no luck.
i gonna miss about LCD poster :)
I grabbed an open box RIIE from Micro Center for stupid cheap. I'm currently using the latest BIOS 1914 but I'm wondering if there isn't a better one from Bloomfield as it seems like I need more VTT than usual with this board for 4000MHz uncore/DDR3-2000. It doesn't help that it droops quite a bit, 1.50v bios set gives about 1.44v on load DMM measured.
[EDIT] Browsing a few posts back, looks like 1504 would be best for Bloomfield Xeon, and high VTT for DDR3-2000 is normal for this board. [/EDIT]
Hi Rampage users!
I got couple questions, Ive got this mobo for over a year but just since September I wanna overclock bit more :)
What is the best BIOS for R2E? Im using now 1801 (the newest one) for i7 920 D0
What QPI Voltage is required for 4.2GHz (now i put about 1.3v)
What about NB and SB voltages what are recommended voltages for 4.2GHz.
Perhaps I should increase PLL voltage?
Thanks for reply
ĦAy, caramba! this thing needs VTT set high for 2000MHz DDR3! It was more like 1.50v real but still, I only needed 1.40v real on the EVGA Classy with the same chip. Oh well.

@ Shiranui Gen-An, why is your cpu voltage at 2.570 and the other shows 1.323 volts?
CPU-Z bug apparently. I obviously wasn't running 2.57v :p:
Required 1.31 Vtt for me at DDR3-2000MHz CL8 HCI Memtest stable. I don't run this 24/7 though, was just testing seeing what things needed. Vtt requirements do seem higher on the REX2 from other peoples reports but I've never used my CPU on another board so I can't comment personally.
@ CryptiK how are you getting such high copy speeds on everest? I ran mine at 4.5ghz and yours is way above mine but less in other areas.

Hey guys,
I'm having an issue with my R2E, and I remember seeing something about it somewhere quite some time ago. I am finishing a system rebuild, and when I went to power up, no boot. After several hours of troubleshooting, I've discovered the white slots are no longer working. I only had 3 sticks of ram, and didn't think to try some in white, some in blue slots, so not sure if that works. I boot fine with all 3 blue used, but no combo of white slots only worked. All settings are stock, with 19xx bios (can't remember exact #). CPUZ still says triple channel ram when in windows with all blue slots occupied. Is it a board issue, or cpu issue? Its the only 1366 board I have, so can't try cpu in another board.
Just to let you guys know turns out the board had died. Asus couldn't even get it going so they sent me a new one.
Strange how just moving a board can cause it to fail, although I think it was flaky from day one as I had to isolate the metal standoffs with electrical tape because according to Asus it was shorting? No tape needed on the replacement board.
Ok, I feel pretty stupid. I tried it with 4 sticks, 3 blue and 1 white, and it worked fine. I found the manual, and sure enough, it states "Due to Intel CPU spec definition, the system will not boot if only one DIMM is installed in DIMM slot A2, B2, or C2." I vaguely remember reading this before, but forgot. Thanks for help, though.
No problem, sometimes its the small things that trip us up.
Hey guys, ask how do I set the RAM, so I went to 2000MHz or more
I have Goodram 3x2 2000mhz 8-8-8-28
My OC is core i7 920 to 4.3ghz (205x21) ht on
been lil out of the ocing game for the past year, got the spark to start torturing gear again.. heres my poor 980x under watercooling, yeah i know the voltage is abit ehmmm crazy :D the super pi run is just for testing i know the score is not all that great.
this chip stops pretty much scaling well after 1.63v at least on these temps, it seems to needs some colder temps and cant wait to bolt on my cascade and try how this little devils likes -100c

Well i hit 227 bclk on mine tonight. Not too bad for a air run though. Not sure why my cpu voltage isn't showing, perhaps a bug i guess.
Hi there.
i need a little help with achieveing 4.4 ht on,i have achieved 4.3 fully stable with linx, occt, ibt and prime 95.
I notice some people on here have 4.4 with a similar setup to me,all my motherboard is watercooled.
Any help will be really appreciated
Here are my settings.....thanks.

I tried 4.4 today and my first go i got 16 out of 20 passes on linx,my gflops were around 42-45.
When i tried again i got 1 linx pass,2nd pass fail and 56 gflops,i dont know how to get this thing stable at 4.4 even though i have great cooling.
Im using latest bios 19**
Well i guess 227 bclk sucks then. Anyway moving on to some other test.
How do i downgrade my bios,it wont let me install 1504 over 1914..grrrrr.
If you have a older bios the 1504 on the second bios rom. All you have to do is move the jumpers and then select it in the bios to overwrite the first one.
if you get cant open the rom file maybe the file itself is damage i get this error the first time i try this but i download the bios again and it worked fine
You can try with this its the lasted Afudos flash tool version i also included the bios file 1504 that worked for me
http://rapidshare.com/files/43545094..._1504_BIOS.zip
the flash command is
afudos241/i1504.rom
or
afudos241/i1504.rom/pbnc/n
to try flash the bios with my settings is that what you mean ?
i restore the default settings to my bios then boot in dos and flash the
1504 bios but if dosnt work for you try with other bios version 1406 or
any older then 1504 but you want my bios settings i will post them ?
Yes please can you give me your bios settings so see if i can get to 4.4 with ht on

My overclock is stable, but I would like to give memory to 2000MHz.
What should I change in bios to make it stable? thanks

dont bother
just run 1600-1700 cas6 and just as good and with lower volts;)
qpi v-droop is way too much
i have better luck with bbse than hypers on the rexII
btw, is there any 2200-2500 mhz ram that will go on Rampage II and if so, then which kind ?
Edit : like, can i attach 3 x "CORSAIR DOMINATOR GTX 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model CMGTX3"
I'm doing a build with one of these boards, already have most of the pieces (see new build in sig), but not RAM yet. I'm looking at 3x4GB kits because I do 3D modeling, rendering and video work so the memory helps a lot.
I'm looking at G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 CL9 and 1333 CL7, also Corsair Vengeance 1600 C9 kits.
I tried searching this thread but it's hard to follow one person's experience of success or not.
Which 12gb brands/kits work well with this board?
bump for my question ^
I'm in the market for a replacement heat sink for the R2E if anyone still has their stock cooler and would like to sell it please let me know. Also if anyone is aware of an after market replacement I may be interested in that as well. I guess if some one has an R2E they would like to get rid of I may just buy that off of them if the price is right.
I've got a small question and this seems like the best place to ask it.
I'm currently running 3 video cards, 2 580's in SLI in slots 1 and 2 and an 8400gs in the third slot just to add some extra DVI / VGA connectors. I would like to set my PCIe speeds at 16x16x1x instead of the current 16x8x8x, but I can't.
The setting in the BIOS is greyed out and it is set to auto. I have no idea which settings to change in order to allow me to change the PCI Express Selector.
(I also noticed that I can't place a videocard with a 2-slot cooler (like the 580) in the third PCIe slot as it is blocked by the USB connectors and the connectors for the on-off / reset switch and the activity leds.
My original plan was to put a 580 in slot 1 and 3. The speed difference between 16x and 8x isn't that much, but the extra space would allow for much better cooling)
it will not give an option that the card does not support. i can select 16x16x1 as i have a soundcard that runs at 1x on slot 3 and 2 16x 480's in 1 and 2
I figured a card like the 8400gs would have no problem running at 1x. I wonder if I can force that by taping of the other 15 lanes of the videocard making it look like a 1x card.
Edit: I found this article where they "downgrade" a card from 16x to 8x, 4x and 1x. I'll do that tomorrow and see if it works.
Edit 2: It worked. I taped of the 15 lanes of my 8400gs and the option for 16x1x opened up.

sorry guys how to upload image?
BTW....... Happy Xmas.
Been using my GTX295 for awhile now (read: bit over 1 year) at max OC on water with just over stock vcore. I was getting the feeling I wanted to upgrade, but I didn't feel like I'd really worked the card enough and I certainly don't need to upgrade until I see what DX11 brings to various titles. Looking at the results from the guys with GTX 580's I thought that given enough clocks, the GTX295 should be able to keep up.
Volt modded it to 1.19v load, cooling still EK FC295 with cores now 42*C idle, reaching 51*C in ~26*C ambient under max load.
Final stable clocks:
Core= 774 MHz
Shader= 1692 MHz
Mem= 1242 MHz (2484 MHz effective)

No Vantage as 3D mark 11 corrupted it and I cbf fixing it yet. Stupid futuremark not testing before release. You get the idea though. This card is still fast when pushed!
If you have a GTX580 and want to run some comparison runs go ahead it would be interesting to see.
Did some BCLK testing today. Got some interesting results and PB's on this board. All results were boot from BIOS.

What was your IOH and ICH volts?
Before i purchased this board i had the choice between this and the ud5, everyone was saying take the ud5, but for some reason, i have always wanted to own a rampage and it was a good choice
Im trying to flashback from the 19 bios to the 1504 bios, I cant find the right version of afudos the support the pbnc/n command :(
Thanks. IOH was 1.35v BIOS set and ICH was at default voltage. The UD5 is a good board from what I've seen. I have kept a copy of 1504 on one BIOS chip so I can flash it over the other BIOS chip (I use BIOS2 for testing new ones and keep a low numbered BIOS on BIOS1 to avoid that ridiculous 'can't downgrade' issue).
LOLS, i did just this :)
It took me a while, couple of google searches etc figured it out, Its all about the engineering version of afudos
went from the 1913 to the 1504 and now my oc has increased with lower volts, Will post some screenies :)
Cheers for a such a great thread.
EDIT: I also discovered the 1504 reports temps alot higher than the 1913 bios at the same Voltage and cpu speed, im getting about a 20 degree difference, Anyone notice this?
My temps report the same, and from my testing voltage requirements are also the same between BIOSes.
Because of what I do with the 2 BIOS chips re: BIOS versions, I have not needed AFUDOS as yet. Whatever you're most comfortable with is fine, both techniques get the job done.
Fair enough, maybe its cause im on phase, its a different story with voltages and temps, think the evapo head needs a reseat.
I would of used the backup chip but i didnt have the 1504 on there, now i do, as i backed it up after flashing it.
I cant believe the difference in stability compared to the 1913, i need 1.525 qpi to run ram at 2000mhz now all i need is 1.475. I found lower timings are always better when compared to 2000mhz at 1.5qpi.
Just finding a balance between electicity use and performance :P, last electricity bill came to 500 plus dollars for just 3 people in a unit, lols, all my fault cause i need a air con to cool the room down when im gaming cause of the heat from the cascade and pc.
Anyone know if ther eis a proggy other than cpu tweaker which would allow me to change sub timings and cpu multiplier within windows? Turbo v is good, but its limited :(
www.photobucket.com go here, make a account, and than upload pic and copy url here :), GL.
CryptiK please post your bios setting, great bclk
This is with 2x5850 running stock, Increased clocks to 900core 1150mem only gained 400 points at 1024res
http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/...usie/45g-1.jpg
This is my highest oc so far, im sure it can go more, this is prime stable by the way, i can boot into windows higher around 4.7-4.8 but its not stable.
Ugh, electricity prices in NSW are crazy. They increased it what 20-30% under the guise of 'upgrading infrastructure' then the government re-appropriated the money and spent it on other things, then said they would raise prices again to cover the infrastructure. Appalling. Perhaps you should move to water, you can still have great temps (on your VGA's too) with much less noise and less power consumption.
Surprisingly straight forward. Main settings as follows:
Vcore: 1.1875 BIOS
LLC: Off
Vtt: 1.40000 BIOS
VPLL: standard (1.80v)
vIOH: 1.35 - 1.40v BIOS
vICH: standard (1.11v)
vPCIE (IOH & ICH): Both standard (1.50v)
PCIE: 108-115 MHz (115 works well)
CPU SKEW: Auto (100PS also works)
IOH SKEW: Auto (600PS also works)
Ram: 2:8 divider 1.55-1.60v (whatever your ram needs)
QPI DATA LINK RATE: SLOW MODE (this must be in slow mode when link rate is over 8000 MT/s, or my board wont post. I have verified this at various BCLKs bumping up QPI speed to next settings. As soon as its over 8000 it just flakes out. Seems the R3E's can handle this and can run up to ~8300 MT/s so they can hit 230 BCLK without using slow mode.
Looking good, at low res you are more CPU limited than card limited. Try default res of 1280x1024 at least, or a real game demo bench at that res or higher and you should see a bigger difference.
My last test:
Rampage II Extreme
i7 920 D0
GTX280
Chieftec 650W

vCore can probably even smaller = 1.45 v

might have a problem with my seasonic psu, when i run everything stock 5 volt line reads 4.91 and 4.88 under load, but when i revert back to 4.5ghz and stress test, 5volt line drops to 4.75 - 4.70 sometimes hits 4.65v and crashes, i can stress test with 6 threads but anything above that screen freezes and have reset teh system
I read somewhere that the 5v line should not drop below 4.8v, anything below 4.8v would cause instability? Im going from memory on this, i did a couple of google searches and the numbers vary?
But with the above 4.5ghz settings i can play bc2 and any other game, but i soon as i load IBT with 8threads, system freezes, I have a feeling the psu is the culprit :( Its a 750watt season m12, i thought it might be enough. Running 6 hard drives, 2x5850s and 5 case fans.
Is that measuring with a DMM or software? I wouldn't trust software.
With software, you think 750watt is sufficient? its a modular high quality psu.
It was fine with a 1055t at 4.6ghz 1.65volts and that put out much more heat than this. Maybe software is reporting wrong reading?
EDIT:
I figured out the problem, i forgot i reflashed back to to the 1904 bios ffs lols, now im back on the 1504 and system is stable again at 4.5ghz, why is the 1904 so crap for? i dont get it how they can mess something up so bad, they update the cpu support list within the bios and you loose 200mhz on your oc? Go figure.
Good gosh you guys weren't kidding about the 19xx BIOS's sucking. Luckily I had never flashed the 2nd chip and it was still on the original 06xx. Flashed it gradually up to 1504. More stable. Less memory problems. Slightly better headroom. OMG I really can't believe the difference!
Thanks for the post!
I'm using a 970 and I had an impossible time getting it to POST over 181 bclk. The 930 before it would do 220 bclk....
I'm seeing the same thing with the QPI at about ~8000MT/s with my 970, the board will not POST. I used slow mode as you did and the board would POST and boot into windows at 184 bclk, but everything seemed REALLY sluggish from the second the board POSTed all the way into desktop.
In addition to this, I also had to the change the CPU skew and the IOH skew to delay like you mentioned. Changing the slow mode alone would not allow my board to post over 181 bclk....
I'm trying a different 970 today to see if it's the board or the CPU that I'm having problems with.
If you are reaching ~8000 MT/s with 184 BCLK, the QPI Link data rate setting is in the middle (not the freq above slow mode but the one above that). There's SLOW MODE, then 3 frequency choices - set this to the lowest frequency choice (the one above slow mode). This should let you get to around 220 BCLK before hitting 8000 MT/s.
thanks sano . some ram test. hows this ram guys :)

Can somebody remind me what the ES or final QS quad was for this last of the LGA775? Are the ES generally modeled after the Extreme Edition models?
