Hi evreyone,
I'm new here need some advise, yesterday assembled system based on P5B + celeron 2.5 Ghz, ddr2 677
I have 2 concirns about it, first tempretue, what is standard one, none O/C with boxed heat sink and fun to be expected?
second before I was using athlonXP 1.533 Ghz on asus a7v33, I don't see much of performance boost, I understend that celeron 2.5 Ghz suck but still shouldn't it outperform athlonXP 1.533 noticeably ?

hmm, after testing my rig for 2 days for overclock stability I finally decided to accept it and installed windows xp again. I forgot the first time to activate "raid" on my matrix controller and also didn't do the f6 thingy during installation.
Because I've lost my original windows xp pro versions, I've downloaded a "revelation" release from the internet.
I did the f6 thing and selected the right driver from the floppy disk. After selecting the partition, it started installing but stopped almost inmidiately after that.
There was a problem with the fila iastor.sys and setup couldn't continue.
After doing some research on the web, I found nothing, only vage answers.
Finally I downloaded another release from the internet and it worked without any problem.
Got my P5b DX up and running.
At first with the shipping BIOS idle temps were 37c. Now after flashing to 711 BIOS I am at 38C-39C. I removed the BT cooler and found 100% contact with the CPU cap.
What are idle temps on this rig? I don't recall reading the temps are so high.
My Pw5 idled at 31 or so and the ABIT AW9 Max idled at 28C. This 38C idle is crazy.
Also I flashed to 711 using EZ Flash and a floppy with the file on it. After flashing a screen came up stating the rig would restart in 5 seconds. Well, it sat still for minutes so I tried to restart with reset - no go. Then I unplugged the rig cleared cmos and got it up again. :( Strange occurance for sure.
Finally I thought the double start was eliminated in the 711 BIOS. First when I do a cold boot the fans start, time passes then it shut down and starts again. Also after setting BIOS and saving it double pumps. I dumped the Pw5 because of this, now with 711 the P5b is still doing the same thing?
Comments appreciated.
EDIT: Well I don't know why but the double start issue disappeared. Very strange- but I will take it. Now if I can sort out the high idle temps.

hmm, with bios 0711 on my p5b-dlx and e6400 + corsair twin2x-2048-6400c5 mem, the startupscreen (post) is showing pc2-4300 dual channel interleaved.
When I look in windows at cpu-z i can't see any problems.
memspeed 1:1
core speed 3208
busspeed 401
rated fsb 1604
memspeed 1:1 = DDR533 ratio = PC4300
the post message is just showing you the ratio being used.
new review of p5b-deluxe : http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/...ds/1663_1.html
what voltages are you using in the bios for Vcore, Vfsb, Vmch and southbridge?

You can use the interactive CPU Charts at Tom's Hardware to get an idea of the difference. The nearest CPU to a 2.5Ghz celeon on there is the Pentium D 805 or the Pentium 4 520 except the celeron is even slower.Quote:

OK I had a problem since buying the P5B Deluxe. When I use a XP + SP1 install and then later install SP2 it creates conflicts on the PCI express bus and I loose the Jmicron controller (Which controlls the only IDE port) and I also loose one of my Gigabit LAN's. (The PCIE one of course)
As soon as I uninstall SP2 everything is back to normal. Today I will try a Fresh install with XP + SP2 to see if that works fine.
If that is the case I think it may be added to 1st post problems as it took me days to figure out and no one on XS have had this problem before, well no one could help me solve it.
I think I saw someone with similar problems somewhere...Just get a version of XP with SP2 already slipstreamed or use Nlite to make your own.
Where can I find the PSU output recommendations for this board?
I am using a Seventeam ST-700EAD with +5V: 30A; +3.3V: 25A; +12V1: 16A; +12V2: 16A; +12V3: 16A; +12V4: 16A; -12V: 0.8A; +5VSB: 3A.
Is it good enough?
Your joking yea?Quote:

Ofcourse it will be fine :slap:
:D :) :p:
I got a XP disc with SP2 and now the system bluescreen on me rigth before stage where you select xp installation folder. I tested the disc on another system, works 100%Quote:

Only way it works ok is XP+SP1, thats it.
All thats left is to RMA now. Get another mobo.
Last annoying thing is the fact that I cant seem to get the AHCI detection to take less than about 1 minute which is unacceptable and it seems on RAID mode it has to be that way.
well guys....after dicking with this board all weekend again, I RMA'd it....:(
MOTHER F^#$*&&!!! :mad:
good thing I saved my BIOS settings on a napkin before it went loco.
moral of the day kids: NEVER EVER go full out on NB core voltage!!!! stick with 1.6 if you can!
I popped in a 6400 Saturday afternoon and was messing with it 450mhz...no problem. Popped in some Corsair DDR800 and couldn't get back up and over 400...cursed the corsair and popped my Geils back in and now the same thing. Can't run 1:1 beyond 400 nor can I use a divider to get the memory there. This board has a mind of it's own...
My board is going back to Scan tomorrow. Just had RMA confirmed and it's beign picked up from my work.... What a bugger :( - Just hope I get one as good and as solid as the old one.

My config is:
Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi
Conroe 6300
2 GB (2x1) G.Skill F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK
ATI X1900 AIW
4 HD Seagate SATA 80GB
Audigy 2 Platinum ZS
1 DVD Recorder
1 CD Recorder
PSU Seventeam ST-700EAD 700W
If the PSU is ok, where should I look for the trouble? :stick:
my feelings exactly....hope I can get to where I was before with the new boardQuote:

If it's within the time limit from where you purchased to replace the defective equipment, then, act really stupid and see if you can get a replacement board.
Good luck!
This board is very picky. Anytime you change bios settings or sometimes software, this will happen, take the extra time and do a software reboot versus just hitting the switch.Quote:

You may want to flash back and then flash forward again with another version of the 711 bios.
