They scale with cold. With the way they clock on air, the guys doing 6 GHz definately aren't doing it on SS/DICE. :)

hey l0ud_sil3nc3, MAYBE you could be able to max locked llano CPUs using just a single stage but if you have an unlocked one you need for sure more cold than SS or DICE.
grab some LN2 and have fun. :D
BTW, i moved on (ok not exactly :D ), my faildozer chips are just a complete epic fail.
killed two out of four and the best of them can do 7 GHz or a bit more...so to not completly waste the LN2 i did some hardcore oldschool action with DFI NF4 ultra-d, opteron 148 and a set of corsair.
CPU and RAM LN2 cooled. :D
p.s. beware of not pushing too hard with that giga, a friend of mine killed 3 or 4 of them...mosfets use to take fire on that mobo.
About Llano: if you care for performance watch your RAM channels. When pushing hard one channel may not init properly and it will show up in CPU-Z, but will not be used - check if available memory in task manager is correct.
I guess it I all ready knew the answer deep down inside, moar cold and moar volts:D
I too have heard the mosfets are so so on the UD4H, but I can't wait to see the fireworks show if something catches on fire:rofl:
very useful information G. I guess this makes sense because Froxic was talking about scores being higher with lower clocks (3.6 faster than 5.2).
What G.Foyle said about Llano is true about BD too.
What froxic said, if results weren't halved, might mean that something laxes bigtime and makes a performance hit...
In other news,
I am out of things to overclock that are worth more than .1 HWBoints with normal water cooling...
my subs suck lol. e8600 could do 6g but ov_enable doesn't work for some reason. hence nothing over 6g lol
bench for the lulz not for the boints :D
p.s. hey boss, i did the maxmem you were asking for.
RAM air cooled at 280 MHz 2-2-2-5 1t but result sucks.
got 640 pt, maybe 650/660 pt is doable but is impossible to match the 800 pt the 2x512MB kit get at these settings.
p.s.2. i got a gold cup with the opteron 148 in ucbench

Nice work guys!
Congrats to SteveRo for reaching rank #6 in the OC League and to Hondacity for the first 800MHz DDR2 validation of the team!
I submitted some 3DMark06 but they don't show up as it won't calculate points.
its a huge problem but the hwbot staff are downplaying it. just keep track of it.
Well, confirmed that I will be going with 25L LN2 for the first time on friday. I'm low on insulation materials but I have enough to wrap the pot well. Looks like white rice will have to be my savior again. :D ...though it can get messy.
If I can't get LN2 setup then I'll be doing DICE, either way I'm gonna do sub-zero for 3D with these 5770's on air.
wow, looking forward to your results beep.
Yeah, if I have to make calls and get prices matched to IMOG's .50/L (+ rent) though. (Should be no big deal, I'm going the same place he does)
We're a bit tight on cash, I've got about $50 of my saved cash to blow on LN2 + rental. Maybe I can get 35L even, but I have to make sure they rent. If not, 25lb DICE is the backup. It costs a good 2-3 hours to go to AirGas and back.
I'm sure my dad isn't too happy with the cost of my hobby... :D ?
well, that's a good price for LN2 IMHO.
here i pay 1.2 € per liter and i have my own dewar...the LN2 men here don't know what the word "rent" means. :D
tell him that buy 30 liters of LN2 cost alot less than go clubbing and many other things the guys of your age usually do during weekends. :D
Bad news.
No dewar rental under 200L...but they offeered to sell me a 40L dewar for $300 which seems competitive. Do I have $300 to spend on a dewar right now? Of course not.
IMOG has something like 3 dewars, but he uses them constantly and benches for OCF. I could beg big to let me pick one up to borrow for a few $$, I guess...
Otherwise I've got one other store to try, it is opposite south of this one.
EDIT-
I.M.O.G. from OCF killed his 2600K so he is allowing me use of a full 50L dewar for $40. :)
Interestingly enough, the people at the most recently contacted AirGas said the only size they rent is 160L delivery filled. You can't buy any of any size there locally either. Apparently the "small ones are never seen again once they give them out a time or two."...I find that interesting as they should have all contact information of the people they are dealing business with, no? :p:

Great work Steve!
You've come a long way in the last 3 years!
^^ Much thanks Capitan!
You're welcome, Master! :bows:
Thanks DD for the Tool
here's one for yah :D

First LN2 run of my life...
...
I need to push harder. (After I dry everything out and try again, condensation on ram slot kept dropping memory channel and BSOD/reboot)
Chip does 3D benching at 6.1.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2321697
214xx I think was best single card HD5770 score. Of course, I think 22K can be done. CPU score just over 11K
I also had a 10.700 exact 1M score at ~6420. However froze when going to save screenshot and no backups. CPU isn't a strong chip on air/water so I think I'm managing okay. Takes 1.64v on water to bench 3D at 4.35 GHz and max 32M is 4.5 exact at 1.64v water.
I'm completely spent. 50L dewar weighs more than I do, scrawny 16 year old 125 lbs...dewar probably about 140 full.
wow 6g on amd...sweet congrats breaking that feat.
I don't have much else to show for. You guys have any tips for insulating ram side of board? I can keep everything else completely dry, barely even any frost on the pot. Just the ram slots on the board down there get wet after a while and were too much a b***h to clean up.
You guys can preview this though:
Fresh OS (OS is FUBAR corrupt) and re-tackle tomorrow. With ROG connect I should be able to bump up CPU to 6.2 for 3D and drop to 6.1 for CPU tests.

http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/1...singleblur.jpg
@ Beep
why do you have all that stuff blurred out in your screen shot?
Because I don't want anyone to see it.
I almost didn't post it at all, I know I can do better tomorrow.
Awesome run there Beep:up:
+6G benchable in 3D is very good for a random chip :) Also that memory speed is very nice. Check if NB will go higher.
that cpu score is also good its like a 5.9 2500k. i wonder if boosts gpu scores too.
use blue painters tape to tape off the ram slots... then pack kneaded rubber eraser to make an air tight seal. painters tape protects the slots from the rubber eraser.... and eraser protects from air.
if you have some spare pcb(no conductor)..you can cut it to length and stuff it in the slot. then put some eraser to seal it.
Hmm...okay.
Cold isn't spreading very much, I actually had more spread when I tried DICE the first time. Of course, totally different insulation (with foam gaskets etc) than before.
Just after the first ~1-2 hours of benching some hefty frost makes its way to the first ramslot. VRM/PWM side is completely fine I think.
you can use a fan to blow off the cold air going down if full pot. hang the fan on the one of the 4 threaded rods and point the air towards the sky/ceiling
I was gonna submit some good scores this month to outdo steveO.
but he's a machine!!! ahhahahahha
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...5/4b539910.png
3960x no better? I was waiting for Ivy with great hopes but I think those hopes are dashed now ....
Honda your old 580 died the other night too, one too many high bolted benchies on water ...
:(
3960x is too expensive. but it should do 5g easily
3930k c2 seems to clock well.
i dont bench on water. only on ln2 now. so i avoid killing hardware
beep, 6.1 GHz through 3dmark 06 CPU test with such a low VCORE is really good.
congrats.
this WE i failed another time with faildozer and borked another CPU.
try a different sata cable. if it gets corrupted again. reinstall.
i think matt is done with his faildozer and has plenty of ln2. give him a call :D
My final results, out of LN2:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...-HD-5770-2D-3D
the spi tweaker actually have the straps... i haven't tried it yet. will be concentrating today on the r7x comp.
I know, that's very handy when benching 32M on the Commando. ;)
Good luck!
Beep that is amazing! nice job buddy! that is impressive for your 1st ln2 experience. you will find its not so bad once you do it. after this you are not scared anymore. just dont do anything stupid.
from my experience, the hardest part was getting the container to make optimal contact. also always take your container off after you bench to dry out the socket area after benching. I grease my dimms and the 1st pcie x16 slot but its a pain in the ass to clean and attracts dust.
on another note, what are you guys doing these days as far as insulation goes?
My process in the past has always been the following:
1. painters tape for masking, cpu socket, dimms, i/o area, southbridge, sata, and pcie slots.
2. spray the board with conformal spray front and back (i use MG chemicals acryllic lacquer conformal coating in the white and green can.
3. put some balls of eraser behind the socket and the little holes at the top and bottom of the dimms. (back of board)
4. cut a sheet of 1/8 in frost king pipe insulation to cover the back of the board and poke your mounting holes through the cpu with a nail.
5. mask off the mosfets and the area around cpu with tape making an airtight seal.
6. put 4 cubes of the kneadable german eraser in the microwave for 30 sec so its soft.
7. stretch the warm eraser over the top of the board, around cpu all the way up to the dimms and to the 1st pcie slot.
8. cut a piece of paper towel and surround the cpu socket to suck up any condensation.
9. cut your cpu neoprene gasket and stick it over the papertowel
10. insert your threaded rods for the container and mount the back plate
11. wrap your container with a layer of paper towel and secure with a shoestring
12. wrap the bottom of the container with your neoprene seal and start screwing it on.
13. pour a little ln2 and start the board immediately go into bios and watch the cpu temps drop while you monitor your fluke temp sensor and compare to the bios temps and keep screwing it down 4x4 until its close to your sensor.
14. overclock until you hit a cold bug and have to break out the hair dryer until the damn thing posts again.
this has been my method and its all i know. then I was reading about guys just rubbing vaseline all over the board and instead of taking 3 hrs to prep it ends up taking 30 min.
anyone have a better method? what are the kids doing these days?
is anyone doing the 8800 contest this month? I have 2 8800gts cards but only one slim tek9.
I use liquid electrical tape on my gpu.. 3 coatings and its water tight.
I use it on the backside of the motherboard too.
top side of motherboard i use a generous amount of eraser.
what? this? http://www.amazon.com/Gardner-Bender.../dp/B000FPAN2K
copy my list and remove the steps you dont do and add what you do.
I'm looking for a less time consuming insulation process.
Hmm...
How important is it to coat a PCB like that?
For the back of the motherboard I've been using pipe wrap with the sticky side on the board between the backplate and board and filling around the DRAM slots/VRM on the outside of the layer of pipe wrap with eraser. Then the board sits on paper towels on a motherboard box since I don't have a benchtable. Its also super easy to clean off...peel off the pipe wrap after you unmount and then peel off the eraser, comes off in one peice, 5 second cleanup.
Worked fine for me 3 times during 6-8 hour full pot benching sessions and I will continue to do so...
As far as the top of the board, I've been doing this:
1. Lay down kneaded eraser tight around socket to top of board and near first pcie slot, as far as possible to VRM caps and tight around DRAM slot...
2. Lay down layer of grey pipe wrap insulation (has the foil on the back) to surround the CPU socket from VRM to DRAM
3. Make gasket of paper towels/shop towels about 12-ply on top of that
4. Lay down neoprene gasket that is tight around CPU socket to be compressed tight when mounted there for a seal...
5. Touch up unused DRAM slots if needed with masking tape/eraser, stuff neoprene bits in open spaces around VRM that I couldn't seal
6. Mount pot extremely tight for full contact and to completely seal CPU area.
7. Lay out paper towel over VRM to catch any condensation
Worst temps I had on 1st DRAM slot were -11c after 2-3 hours of benching and then it would hold. Had a few problems in my first run with first slot icing over/thawing, dropping channels...fixed that later on.
On top of this I can pretty much reuse my paper towel gasket and neoprene gasket over and over, pipe wrap bits too that I layed down first. Only effort on top side of motherboard for me is to lay down the eraser now. After an 8 hour full pot run with an 1100T, I had no condensation anywhere on the board but the top of the VRM heatsink very near the pot. Quick stay in the oven @ 80c fixed that quick :)
#*$&^$@$*&%@!
CPU / ram all on air:
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2338774
http://hwbot.org/submission/2275549_...ram_1372.7_mhz
Where did you find the extra speed?
Disabled channel/bank interleaving, memory hole remapping...more CPU_NB voltage... (all that stuff really shouldn't matter too much), 80ohms CPU ODT
Other than that I don't know...
What seemed to matter the most was CPU On-die Termination. 80ohms is the sweet spot, 120ohms is good up until 1150 and 60ohms is good until about 1300-1330 on my CPU.
Ram only needed 1.75v for 1372
Hello guys =)
Let me show you my new scores with ADATA XPG Plus V2 + ASUS Maximus Extreme IV Z + Intel Core i5 2500K using LN2 with F1 Dragon

XtremeSystems in Peru !!!! FTW.
very nice Solid Snake, especially the last pic:D
I think I could start benching Adata exclusively for that girl :D
wow that girls is so.... inspiring me to buy more ln2! :D
Nice scores Solid Snake!
And that's a pretty cute girl... :D
moaaaaaaaaaaaar pics of that gal :D
p.s. nice results, congrats
Really sick CPU!
We're up to 9th place worldwide! I think Dave really gave us the push with his Xeon E5 2687W's :)
HWBox lost many WR points due to IB release, we don't have many WR points so we can't lose any too... :D
Let's see some IB results guys!
I thought they lost a member or two lol.
Wish I could buy an ib right now...the wait is killing people lol
http://www.superbiiz.com/
asus mvg 184$ shipped :D
use code: tidyup20
I've seen ivy's lying in boxes on a shelf, and I cant buy them because Intel said no and people in shop are corporate mo***s.... :(
at least you see the boxes, here in the mountains far far away. i can only see it thru newegg.com lol
Thanks honda, I got one from superbiz.
I was thinking of getting a Gene too, but I tried my ES on an ASRock Extreme6 and I was pleasantly surprised: it works :) Got some cold issues below -140, but I can work around that.
A quick stability test with wrong os, bad mems and little time:

1.67v for 6.2g
needs more cold :D
yw @ TA
that chip is asking for moar vcore :D
That chip is being asked for by Intel, they want it back :D
Did they ask for it dead or alive?
Been playing with my new 955, paired it back with my ASUS 4850 TOP (degraded GDDR3). Looks promising so far, I think X6 will score better in 3DM06 though, not sure yet.
Super-ultra pencil mod on GPU, 1.51v/2.18v for 850/1190 (1.25v/1.99v stock)...weaned it down from 1.7v GPU :wasntme:
Nice clocks, Deneb has come a long way since I tested that 965...
I'm trying a 3570k, looks decent.

The Z77 asrock fatality needs a better bios, currently memories do not rise and voltages are limited :(
@cnzdrn
Please contact Nickshih, he's one of the performance engineers of Asrock now. Also tell him you do subzero-LN2 and part of Team.XS :D
here is his email: nick_shih@asrock.com.tw
http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/3...il29th2012.jpg
Nice work guys! So close to 26k...
And welcome to the team Warwian! :welcome:
@cnzdrn: I had the same problem on Extreme6 - last working mem multi is x22 (DDR-2200). Don't know about Fatlity, but Extreme6 also has very limited Vsa adjustment (4 steps in 0,1 granularity).
Retail Ivy comes to me on Wednesday :)
Exactly mr Foyle, I have same settings on bios.
There is a "serious bios" for extreme6 as far as I know, unfortunately not for the fatality.
When I find online sannino I ask him if it works.
I can boot with 24x on air, only with 100 base clock, using hynix (Transcend 2400) @ 10 12 12 1t 1,72V.
My PSC and BBSE can't go over 2200.
On cold 24x give me post code 23 XD.
I need a drive to do quick os for my bench drive. Should I just use a raptor or any should I get another ssd? should I get this?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820239045
when is the replacement for the m4 coming out?
Hi guys.
I need your help please, I need to use 8 SSD (ADATA XPG SX900 256GB) but in my MB (ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE) only have 2 SATA III ports (:banana::banana::banana: xD) Which RAID card SATA III do you recommend?
thanks =D
@steve: i'd stick with the Raptor and spend those 140 USD in LN2 :D
ask computurd, I would say this is the best bang for buck or a 9260-8i
LSI MegaRAID Internal SAS 9265-8i 6Gb/s Dual Core ROC w/ 1GB cache memory RAID Controller Card, Kit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816118160
Im not uncle steve. Youre thinking steve ro. Im alvin.
I have 4 x 64gb m4 in raid0 on 9260-4i but I would like another ssd to just use as an all around bench drive.
Ln2 is not a prob. mainly I need to get my hardware going again. I am going to get a 3570k and a 3770k. so we can get both points for the team.
Thanks guys.
What do you think about this RAID CARD?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816118128
=)
naw man. 9260-8i at least. check ebay or something.
crap then I forget we all have the little FP key chip.
hmm is there FP key for that 9240-8i? computurd? get in here buddy!
edit jsut called paul and yeah you want at least a 9260-8i. we all have fast path keys. you cant run FP key on 9240 your onboard intel raid would be better or the same.
see if you can find a used 9260-8i on ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...All-Categories
Its been so long since I've really looked at my rank on HWBOT in 2 years. I'm currently ranked 33 on xs. I want to start contributing again. The mv gene comes tomorrow and I ordered a 3770k. I still never put my 24/7 3540 rig on ln2/58 sabertooth on ln2.
so Im thinking I should work on that. also the 655k I never really maxed out. I can run that.
is steve ro getting an ivy setup? I want to do some pc mark stuff. damn just noticed the apr contest was G80.
I had 2 8800gts 640 the whole time,, :(
1. sell that 655k :D
2. concentrate on ivy cpu then
3. bench every gpu you see :D
notice the submissions on hwbot...most guys are getting 1st position on every gpu they bench with ivy.
Hmm, I wonder why
the statement says "they bench with ivy"
wonder no more.
well Im not going to sell it since its my best golden cpu and Max formula 3 was the best board from that era. I've learned something from the past. Always keep your best hdwr boards and mem mainly from each gen. (for future monthly hw contests)
I have all my best stuff still all the way to dfi lanparty UT days.
for 1156 I killed everything except the 655k and the max 3 board.
for vga, I have 2 8800gts and a 6950. and a slim tek 9 which I never used. I just installed the temp probe to it.
screw the recent submissions on ivy. they wont last long as Beep beep is implying. (no need for the rude smiley)
but I get his point. I want us to go in full force this month. its been a while man. Im very nervous getting back in here and trying to insulate. I feel like Im learning how to oc all over again.
If I ask some noob questions please be supportive. Its been a while. like honda's use of the liquid eraser. that sounds cool. I saved my best elpida hyper 2x2 kit from the early batches of pi blacks.
I cant wait to see how they do on ivy. I forgot all the os tweaks. right now I need to get a os drive going for ivy. my plan for ivy is as soon as I get the board Im gonna just use air and get acquainted with the settings and get the mem maxed out. and then ill rip it down and conformal the board and insulated it and get the pot mounted and then get some ln2. sound like a plan?
