Which 2400 rams go well on x79? I have a pair of Team 2400 c9's so do I get a second pair or get 4x4 of Ripjaws-Z or Tridents? Which chips does x79 like for benching and what can I expect to get out of them? I read that 2011 doesnt like much over 2400 so do I then aim for the tightest timings at 2400?

You were right. Got home from work on Thursday to see it was 9 hours AVX Linpack stable at 1.35Vcc. Loaded up Prime95 27.7 and it errored out in 38 mins. Had to up the Vcc to 1.37 for 24 hour stability in Prime95.
Now that I know 4.7GHz is stable, I've nowhere to go but up. Hopefully 5GHz won't be too much of a pain to stabilize, but if it is, I'll be back in here asking questions again.
Pretty much any kit that uses 1.65VDIMM or less will run fine.
As far as speeds over 2400 go, it really depends on the IMC of your proc and your willingness to tinker in the UEFI. If you have a 2400 kit already, why not pop it in and see what speeds you can push out of it? My Samsung 1600 has hit 2500 on this RIVE, so I see no reason a 2400 kit matched with a decent IMC couldn't hit 2600+.
If you're worried the RAM itself won't clock that high, just wait a month or two. Corsair, G.Skill, and Team Group all showed off 2800+ kits at Computex and they should be hitting shelves soon.
Thanks Random, Im tempted to try the 30nm Samsungs too. I only have two sticks of Team 2400c9 but its worth a try. Are the Team 2600c10 also good clockers? I found a quad channel set of those but no 2400c9's.

You should pick some up. For the price, you really can't go wrong. there was a long thread over on TPU about them and only two or three people couldn't get them to 2133(my guess would be mobo limitations, as two were trying on P55 boards), and a lot of us hit 2400.
To my understanding, the 2600 CL10 kits use the same ICs as the 2400 CL9 kits, just higher binned chips and looser timings.
Also i should mention that in most cases, two dual channel kits will function as a quad channel kit as long as the two dual channel kits are of the same RAM(i.e. two dual. They won't have matched chips, but you should still be able to put a nice OC on them.
I'm running AI Suite II and have noticed that on some screenshots posted on the web that the AI Suite II sensor panel will show a VTT CPU temperature and VCCSA temperature. The only temperatures my AI Suite II sensor panel shows is CPU, Motherboard and PCH temperature. Is this normal? Thanks.
Make sure you're using the latest AI Suite software. I started by installing the Suite that came on the CD, then used the Asus site to download their latest AI Suite. Turns out some of the software was more recent on their site, some was the same version that came on the CD, and two programs installed from the CD were actually newer than the ones on Asus' site.

This might be somewhat unusual question, but how is it with Asus Rampage IV Extreme (Intel X79), Intel Core i7-3960X and power management / saving features? I remember back with my Intel Core i7-920 and Rampage II Extreme many of the power saving / management features like speed stepping and various other things was disabled upon playing with the multiplier for instance.
How is things this time around? I want the best of both worlds, trying to reach 5.0GHz overclock on 3960X but at the same time keep the power management and saving features so my system draws the least possible amount of power while idling and doing non-demanding 2D stuff, but get the overclocked speeds and performance kicking in while rendering, playing games etc..
Is this possible to achieve, or would I be stuck with stock multiplier and frequencies in order for the power settings to work efficient and as intended?

These sticks have run up to ~2520 stable, but these were just to tide me over until a particular 4x8GB kit I've been waiting for hits shelves, so the OC has been tamed down a bit for 24/7 use. I'm also still trying to OC the 3820 further, so the RAM isn't really where it could be if I sat down and played with timings for a while.
All power settings(except maybe a few C states) are available to use, the Ai Suite even includes a program to help tweak the power savings.
SpeedStep, sleep modes, even power phase switching are usable even when overclocked.
This is possible since I have my system overclocked to 4.6 with all the power management stuff on such as speedstep and c-states. Going over 4.6 is possible but my board is not stable after resume from sleep above 4.6ghz. Still if you want to go over 4.8ghz you should disable all power management features to ensure greater stability.

For VCORE do you all prefer a fixed value or using the offset mode? I've always used a fixed value with LLC but it seems offset may be the new way to go?
With a 3960X up to about 4.5GHz I had good results using off-set VCore. After that, it became increasingly difficult to get my system stable. I needed more voltage for a given frequency compared to fixed VCore. Also, my system would randomly crash during light transient loads, even though it was perfectly stable under full load.

I'm using Rampage 4 Formula for the past 2 months and it was running on stock perfectly fine. Last night I powered down the PC and this morning when I pushed the power button nothing happened. The motherboard LED's are lighting but I can not start the PC. Fans are not spinning, debug codes doesn't show anything. I disassembled the PC and tried RAM and PSU on another PC and they are working fine. I tried to run the board with 1 and 2 stick of RAM, i tried to use the other BIOS, also tried the USB BIOS flash back, but the problem remains. The BIOS flashback is working only for the second BIOS - i see the ROG Connect button flashing 15 seconds and then stops, but for the main BIOS it doesn't even starts the procedure. I tried with different cooler and didn't tighten all the way also checked the boards for bent pins, but there is none and the socket is fine. The board is LED are working, but when I puch the power button on my case or the button on the motherboard its like there is no power and nothing happens.
EDIT: I saw that the heat sink of the motherboard is heating when the power supply is plugged into the motherboard and the PSU is switched ON. Is this normal?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hello all, quick question.....does one need the modded BIOS if they are not running RAID?
RSTe is Intel's Rapid Storage Technology. It not only handles RAID, but also AHCI and Hot Swap.
You may see performance improvements in non-RAID setups or you may not. Try it for yourself and see.
On an unrelated note, would your RAM be the same as mine? The low-profile, low-voltage DDR3-1600? If so, I'd like to compare notes.
In general, PSCs are good for the OC or some are not?
With a Kit Dominator GT 2000 3x2Gb 8-9-8 (ver 7.1A), it is possible to 2400 C9 (stable LinX)
But with 2x2GB 2000 8-9-8-24 (ver 7.1) is not stable with HyperPI 32M

Outstanding! Thanks for the reply! I was hoping that it would help AHCI a tad. I ran AS SSD Benchmark last night and the score was extremely low compared to what I scored on my Crosshair V Formula, not cool IMO....AMD scored in the high 700's but on this rig it scored a mere 500!? ouch!

For h24 is better to be "High" or "Ultra High" for the LLC?
And 1.34v for the vcore in h24 is reasonable (WC)?
