Prime95 is a good stress test for temps and some stability but it's not the only thing you need to test with on these CPUs as some seem to run P95 fine and lock using IE. I'd say a couple of hours on P95, a couple of 4x SuperPi 32M runs, a couple of video benches, some mixed usage (surfing while running 1x P95 and 1x SuperPi) etc. And even then don't expect it to be 100% stable!
For a quick stability test while OC'ing I still like 4x Prime95 large FFT's as that's what seems to crash mine the fastest. Once each app gets to step 3 I move the clock up again. By then the cores have reached maximum temps ...

Also on RAM, tony may be cable to light this one up. Typically DDR2-800 uses TRC=24 and DDR2-1000=45. The problem is, BIOS Maxes out at 26 on the DDR2-800 setting. If I bump the ram to 900 I can't set it about 34 which would be needed.
Would definitely like to see better work on the RAM dividers, too! The ASUS has 533, 667, 800, and 1066 but 1066 won't work without 1066 RAM. It shows up as an option but boots at 800. :(
M3A32 has the NB multiplier up to 11X listed (and checked). 12X and more will show up in BIOS using the "+" key but I haven't checked for sure by booting 12X - I'll give it a try. I assumed all boards would do NB multi so it wasn't an issue until now ...
I can set my K9A2 to 1066 on my 800 ram but the system doesn't stay stable. But it does boot up and show 1066. The first release of MSI's bios and the ability to change cores individually.. I had a forum that a guy explain the way to do it.. but it was sorta complicated.. now it just has multipliers. It was done with ratio's.. i'll see if I can find that.. but it would not recognize the 9850 correctly...
Prime95 is one of the best stability test, if you are looking for thermals, the OCCT tool is really good at stressing to the same power levels as prime95 and nicely logs core temps.Quote:

Quick question. you know how you have been saying phenom stability is hard to test well at stock clock (2.5ghz) and i couldn't remember wait the defualt voltage was for phenom so at 1.3Vcore and 1.35Vcore my phenom doesn't last more then 5mins large FFTs in prime. did i get a dead cpu?
more then likely you need to test your ram. i had the same problem till i changed ram. all sticks would test fine in single slot single stick tests. any slot any single stick. as soon as i would put in 2 sticks in dual or 4 sticks @ 1066 errors and lots of them. it would also error @ 800 but only now and then. changed my ram and all is good now. well so far anyway. :)Quote:

Has 10 MOSFETs 2 of wich are dedicated to the HT Bus and the Mem Controller. (some of the MOSFETs are covered by the copper cooler. Now i know this is an issue with AM2 boards not being backwards compatable with the new Phenoms rated at 125W. Im not sure what kind of impact this has but to me this could exsplain why some people cant Hit 3ghz. I dont think it has anything to do with the Chips or wich bin they come from. I just think that some boards are giving some people more power then others. If not more then more Stable power to the 3 given Draws. Might also be the reason that some people hit 3k. Run for a week, then BSOD like mad. If the cores are eating all the juice then the MC and HT Bus are hung out to dry getting what ever is left over. This would also exsplain at least imo why people are having so many stability issues. I could be wrong and i probably am :)) Also i dont have any solid testing evidence to back this up. Just pose a question is more what im doing here. If this has already been discussed just ignore me ;)
(sorry for so many edits :P i had the WiFi board pic up before. and im by no means saying that all Phenoms are exactly the same, some chips will do better then others.)

I'm not happy. Just killed one of my memory sticks. I got my Ultra 120 eXtreme in today, along with the scythe fan with 110 cfm. It just so happens that the ramsinks were a little tall for the hs's liking. I take part of it off... and it took off 7 of 8 ram chips on that side... Thankfully I have an old faithful pair of OCZ value 512mb sticks. Man... at least the cooler is a massive drop in temps, otherwise I'd be throwing stuff around. Oh well, just gives me a better reason to invest in some 1066 sticks.
Edit: And it even gives me slightly higher clocks, but that might also be due to lower clocking memory and less actual memory as well.
that is a question people area lready asking for a while and more or less the same with the 780 boards, i have the msi 790 k9a2 plat that has the 5 phase and asus m3a h-hdmi that has 4+1 phase, i started with the last board and all i can say is the mosfets run real hot @ stock.Quote:

i am puzzled by my temps. they idle at 42c and load at 58. this is at 1.425Vcore and 2.6Ghz. thats high reight since the max temp is 63c. this is on a watercooling with 4x120mm rad's with antec tri cool fans max speed
