I want a +4.0GHz quad so bad but I don't think my Q9450 has it in her. Maybe that will change when my P45 board gets here :yepp:

got mine up & running on the test bed + Asus R/F mobo + DD TDX water block + GTX360 rad stock cooling there after
running stock @ 3 GHz = prime 95
temps under load are 36,32,32,33 real temp,
idle 24,22,23,28
room temp ambiant 24.8
water temp coming off cpu is 26.1 into pump then rad
batch l825b323 pack date 9-3-08
core voltage in CPUZ 1.184
tests of sensors in realtemp show
core 0=7
core 1=5
core2=7
core3=1
think I got a stuck sensor as that core is runnig hot compared to the others gonna reset the water block tomorrow & if it don't change think i'm gonna RMA it .. while i still can back to Egg
set the bus speed to 450 & the FSB came up 1800 @4 GHz every thing but the mem timing on auto but not stable in prime
loonym - indeed 5 average higher @ coretemp
look guys i didnt come/post here to increase my chips value to 2 grand as it has been mentioned.. nor do i intent to sell it why would i wanna do that..
anyways.. was just sharing with you guys a classic oc every step of the of the way: patience/trials/perseverance/brute force all on air.. have been ocing for almost 10 years now.. just cause im not breaking records or better known/trusted like others here.. doesnt mean idk how to oc/am posting fakes
as soon as ill get another cpu.. its the only one i got at the moment.. ill slap on the vapoLS and show you guys even higher clocks ;)
2 x YSTech 7.92w + video + psu total fans
i got these fans like 7 years ago if not longer

NapalmV5
You`re the luckiest overclocker ever.
I'll be getting a 9650 very soon because of this thread. thanks to everyone who contributed.
A little OT... but Napalm, what kind of mod is that on your ATI? What kind of gains did you get from it? Thanks.
Wow Napalm....congrats! i really do need to start playing, what Vtt are you using assuming that is helping to keep the VCore requirements down? I must admit I have never played with this before so I am just gonna set mine to 0.613 or whatever it is and take it from there!
idk about lucky.. getting a good chip is the lucky part if you cant pick and choose
nugzo - no oc gain.. though there may be some nice gains on the 4850 cards
Tatty_One - 560x9/5040 highest system boot ive tried so far using the same voltages @ 4.9ghz os boot.. so yeh you guys gotta push harder if you want higher clocks :)
once you guys push harder youll find out what voltages your cpu likes
1.28 vcore is what it came back as when set on auto , if remember right i was burnt out from work last nite when i ran the 1st OC & will not have time to mess with the Q9650 till tonite after work agin (gonna keep a log of all the setting I use next time i start OC'in')
@Napalm can you post yer settings that u have been using . gives some of us a starting point
d/l'ed the newest realtemp (2.79.7) & checked the testing of movement of sensors this morning & got (all this at stock settings in bios )
core0 = 8
core1 = 5
core2 = 8
core3 = 0
think I should RMA it back to the EGG ??
temps at idle 24,22,21,33 ambiant@20.7 cores # 's 0,1,2 show movement but core # 3 stays at 33 always NO movement on that core
Bigslappy, my cores are very different in idle too.. But under load i have a max. difference of 3°C.

idk you guys tell me.. prime95 is not my thing.. 2GB ram.. ive ran it again @ tighter mem settings same results.. im running on nlited xp32 and ive removed a lot of stuff.. i do remember smtg about prime @ nlite.. id have to run prime95 on full xp32 version
something else im missing?
vtt is more than the "recommended vtt" and less than 2v
you guys want to napalm your systems/cpus with my voltages? :)
bigslappy - you got a good one
NapalmV5 - I was not implying you came and posted for that reason, so I apologize if that is how you took it. What I was trying to say is that you have a golden chip because:
1 - Your on air and you have low temps.
2 - You are not using much vcore and from what I gather except for the VTT voltage you are not adjusting anything else, which implies that you are not having to tweak much to get the high FSB.
3 - Virtually every post I have read on any Intel quad shows a FSB wall of around 475FSB unless going with something better than air.
4 - You are using mainstream boards to do your testing, not extreme boards like the Maximus II.
I am glad you are able to get your chip to such heights. What I am trying to figure out is whether it is the chip, the chipset or some setting you are using that the rest of the overclocking world is missing. This is why people have asked for you to post your settings time and time again. What I would love is for someone to be able to duplicate the results, but I haven't seen that yet. Please, just post your settings so that someone here can try and duplicate what you are achieving.
Am I skeptical? Sure I am and everyone here should be untill others have the same success. Am I doubting your integrity or skill? Not at all. I just think you have a golden chip and the results will not be duplicated by anyone else.
Utnorris
i didnt mean you.. my wording not so great.. was just referring to what you said.. its all cool
ive taken it up to 560x9 5040mhz of course just a system boot not os on air
how do you know im not adjusting anything else ? :) maybe i am ;)
ill let the good/veteran overclockers tell you guys what im doing.. :D they know what im doing
time will prove me.. dont worry guys ill surely wont be the only one @ these clocks
Please don't be so elitist and share with the others so that they may benefit. It's not what you have, but what you do with it...our benching team could benefit, but you are holding out?:stick:
And tell us the Batch/FPO :p:
elitist? wow quite the insult.. ive shared everything with you guys.. every step of the way.. mars/blackops/dfi ut p35 and now dq6 results.. some of you only joined the thread from page 6/7/8 but go back for more info.. batch aswell.. ive shared my specs/pic its all there.. should figure out.. im not doing anything new
and if someones wondering about any mobo vmods/cap mods.. the boards still virgin just like the day it got made
im not gonna state my voltage settings cause someone will blow up their rig.. whats the fun in that
patience and perseverance.. no sweat no oc
:nono:
I have but one last thing to say on this:
":chicken:"
:hrhr:
E0 CPUs rock. I don't have a Q9650, but I do have two X5450 Xeons ;)
About the same really, only they are S771 instead of 775 and run on a Dual socket mobo :D
Still testing, but seems they can do around 3900Mhz at 1,17V loaded. Need to do a Vcore pinmod for more..
NBF - thanks :)
would that satisfy you? right..
4.5/4.7/4.8GHz
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=202576
will get you that 4.9ghz cpuz validated right away sir
^ *sigh* alright.. its not just vtt
vcore
vtt
vpll
vnb
vI/O
vdimm
v12 ;) - no 5ghz without it
all have to be adjusted.. at least thats what i adjust on the dq6
and depending on your cpu/mobo/ram/psu/etc.. gtl and other voltages
what values? well thats the fun @ ocing :) you guys gotta find that on your own :D
Actually I have been following this thread the entire way since I have a QX9650 and there are no dedicated over clocking threads for them. You end up grabbing info from various threads. What gets me is that when the QX9650 came out they could do 4.5Ghz with little effort on air and so far this chip is challenging me. Since I have a Blitz MB, I have a lot of adjustments that can be done, plus I w/c so temps are not an issue. What I have been trying to figure out is if it is a limitation of the MB, chip or me that has prevented me from getting higher, this is why I wanted to know your voltage settings. If I am no where close to yours, then I know it is me. If I am higher, than I know it is either the chip or the MB. I have thought about getting a new MB with a P45 chipset, but I am not sure if that will be a waste of time. I may just buy one local and try it out and if doesn't give better results then I can just return it. Unfortunetely, I don't have as much time to dedicate to it as I use to, so coughing up the voltages would cut down on the trial and error time I would have to do, :D. Yes, I know, it's sort of cheating, but how about we take pity on this new dad and show him the light, ;).
Anyway, you are getting some great results and I look forward to see what your limit ends up being. Until then I will keep trying different settings and maybe a different MB.
Thanks,
Utnorris
Sometimes it takes the perfect match; I think you just found it; especially since you weren't so lucky with the other boards. PLUS, I don't know if anyone has the balls to run vtt at 1.9v+
OT: Gratz for the new baby, Utnorris
Utnorris - oc pity on new dad.. congratz! alright ill work with you..
whats your current voltages including the 12v line @ 4ghz ?
would that satisfy you? right..
4.5/4.7/4.8GHz
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=202576
will get you that 4.9ghz cpuz validated right away sir
as promised..

happy?
Your overclock is stunning Napalm, your attitude is not.
look.. Gautam and everyone reading this.. my attitude is not same towards everyone.. reason why i respond the way i respond to certain individuals.. but your right i should get new brakes current ones weren thin.. got to get ready for the next round of ocing
sorry everyone
Thanks all for the "Congratulations". Although, I am not entirely sure what day it is until I check the calendar or something, lack of sleep and all. For being such a bundle of joy he sure is a handful, :D. But seriously, thank you and NapalmV5, thanks in advance.
Utnorris
Congrats NapalmV5 and thanks for sharing your results.
I agree with you, the fun of ocing is spending hours and hours of tweaking by one's own. Anyway, take care of that P45 you got by you :)
NapalmV5's numbers are perfect achievable on some cold water. What is very strange, is that he claims he is doing it on air.
Anyway, that is one thing we will probably never know :) I have the right to doubt it if I want to...
Most of the fake posts are from kids with low posts. Napalm has been around here for at least 6 years. While i may have sounded a little skeptical at first, and a lot of others are/were, His results were rather outstanding. This not the first time though we have seen outstanding results here at XS. After seeing his setup, and his results, he obviously knows wtf hes doing. Look at his setup, he's not using on board anything. Areca for drives, pci nic, excellent air cooling and none of his fans are even hooked up to the motherboard. That setup in my opinion could do what he claims its doing. He may not want to share all of his secrets, but nothing says he has to. If it were me, i'd want to show you guys everything. Some people don't. That doesn't make them a fake.
Keep up the good work Napalm! You've encouraged me to pick up 1 or 2 of these 9650s. I know this Striker isnt the best for FSB, but i'll do what i can.
I'm not a skeptic, but I'll have to see another crack at P95 without anomalies to be convinced he's stable. The PLL and VTT are obviously too high, and that could be the problem; or the board may be giving up on him already. It's one of the two. I have to say once again though, that, whatever the case may be, this is a really impressive score. If Napalm hadn't mentioned all air cooling, I would have said he was chilled water cooling both chipsets. Which begs the question: What is your ambient temp. Napalm?
all right !!!
i let the CPU idle all day, while i was @ work = about 12 hrs idleing
I now get movement on all cores .
the # 3 core still will not go below 33C but it is now in line with the rest of the cores in temp under load with Prime 95 BLEND
temps now @ stock 3 GHz start of Prime 95
memory @ 800 timing 5-5-5-15 ambiant temp 27.2 all bios settings at auto except the memory timings
core #0 41
core #1 35
core #2 38
core #3 39 this is the one that was stuck :shakes: yesterday & this morning @ 33 no matter what idle OR load
YEAH ! this one is a keeper NOW ! NOT GONNA RMA this gem NOW !
Just needed some burn in time I guess !!
let the games begin NOW !
look out Napalm !
here I come !
as i type the temps are evening out even more under Prime 95 BLEND now they are all with in 3 degrees of each other
15 minutes into prime now they read 42,39,39,40
& @ another 10 minutes & cores are 43,40,40,40
25 minutes into full load Yahoo!
You got me in the Game now Napalm ! I now see what you're up to ! challenge time ,:ROTF::rofl:...... HUH !
:welcome:
now @ 4 GHz stable under prime 95 core volts @ 1.28, bus @ 450 FSB 1800 temps @ 42.38.39.39 C ambiant now @ 21.7 C
DAMN ! this Chip is GREAT !
4950 @ vapoLS
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=423026
5GHz
cpu @ vapoLS
everything else @ air
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=423042
the difference from air to vapoLS on this system is as you guys can see very small.. but its the perfect system for air..
higher clocks demand higher mobo voltages higher vtt and better ram.. till i find the better.. this is it! its been fun :)
holy crap
NapalmV5
Holy ****! Please, sell me your chip!
Yeah It'a keeper ! gonna throw that CPU on a Rampage Formula board that is all watered up with a Vtek V2 & EK mosfits , s/b & a modded DD MPC n/b & see if i can push it up to Napalm's edge ! then do the same with my other R/F board this week end
if you can keep that X48 chipset cool it will keep stable at high clocks
Hey guys, dunno if this is the right thread or not. Just got my first ever quad, a QX9650 (sweet deal of £300).
No idea if this is any good but I was impressed.

Asus Maximus Rampage X38 - 266 strap
Adata Extreme 1200 running @ 1203MHz :)
Obviously I doubt it's prime stable yet but who knows. So far runs fine. Think I need to tweak the NB voltages though... I'll fully test it out later today :)
~Bex
i finally got my head into gear and played more with the gtl voltages (110,105,85, i finally got to 4ghz. i ran linpak 20 times, prime over and over, 3dmark and played crysis... i still need to do more tweeking to the ram.

Nice going Napalm :) you make my Qx blush big time :) but I also bought it to have the higher multi so to not go as high as 500FSB daily... I limited myself at 1.6 Pll and FSB VTT at 1.45 for the 500FSB runs... never tried more as my temps were already over 10°C hotter than with 10 x 450FSB...
Might pick one of these babies if I can sell my E8400...
thank you guys..
my vpll on dq6 = 1.58 @ 4.9ghz on air :)
no wonder you guys have such low clocks gotta push that vtt harder if you guys want higher clocks.. who comes up with all these myths? pll/vtt/vcore/on and on..
Me.
well then you guys have cadaveca to thank for your low ocs :D lol
Maybe, maybe, but who here has killed Core2 cpu?:stick:
ME...but maybe it's a bad board, like XBX1 and XBX2 that kill mems...
Intel should thank me if such were true, but I do not think I am the only one to kill Core2.
definitely bad board.. my blackops kills video cards :)
and you guys gotta adjust the 12v line @ psu for high clocks.. how much? whatever you guys are comfortable with but you gotta push that hard aswell :)
LoL. As if I have that much effect. I think a zillion would be a bit low, anyway...:ROTF:
