I didn`t think it would be that "bad" (60%) but it`s still worth it.
110€ is still extremely cheap for 1gig of ram, don`t think you can get 1gig under 90€ here (and surely no ocz with lifetime warranty @default specs), so that`s a maximum of 10-20€ loss per GB if they don`t go well and i resell them.
Still worth it i think ;)

Guess i`ll wait one more week to see the first benchies and call my US-friends ;)

I am just trying to be carefull , I mean yeilds vary but I want to show a worst case scenario here :-)


I do think many that dont do the VX 3200 test spec should still do 2-2-2 with the right voltage at decent speeds its just that if its untested you never know what your getting , for example it could max out at 210 2-2-2 or it could do 250 2-2-2.

Think about it guys, realisticly if only 60% pass their target for the normal VX line the other UTT has to go somewhere, out of the 40% that does'nt pass how much do you think will end up on the Value line ?

All of it, but if demand strips the supply then maybe they will start to use tested IC's.

As ryan said if you want 250 buy the right stuff or you maybe better off with chancing Twinmoss etc.

But I think he said that these ICs were completely untested. So you have a 60% chance of getting something good.

Ok so where are al lthe Bad IC's going ?

by my calculations if 100% of purchased IC's or however memory companies do it go into the pc3200 cheapo vx. so if 60% of purchased IC's go into VX, in order for ocz to make up for the lost IC's to speed binning, they must charge 233.33 if the cheapo is 140$. but its not like those that didn't pass get thrown out, they get thrown into pc2700 lines and so on.

vx at newegg is 245. so actually ocz is charging a pretty fair price for vx. but its not like they throw out the bad IC's which is how my calculations are done, they just put them in different memory.

i was just saying that vx is pretty fairly priced, and if the 60% figure is true, then they are being fair with charging their speed binning premium.

As I posted before the pretested ICS dont end up in this product . We have plenty of places for those to go , and there is no way you could outstrip the demand on the normal value products. These are simply unbinned Winbond UTT just like the competition are selling


If you happen to run across some value series or premier using these ICs that does not have the " W " designation in the part number those are most likely failed for the VX 3200 spec

I'm a little confused. ryanpgroovy you list the UTT SN as:

OCZ4001024VDC-KW

but the link to atacom.com has it as:

OCZ4001024WV3DC-K

I'm holding a set that has:

OCZ4001024V3DC-K

So, I get the first three "OCZ", I get the second threee "400", and I get the third four "1024", but how do the last 5 or 6 work? How is the UTT identified?

But didnt you say the -KW stood for Winbond?

I believe this is correct


400 = 400Mhz
1024 = 1024 MB
W= winbond die
V= value series
3= cas latency 3
DC = Dual Channel
K= Kit

testing at 3.4v at 250fsb at the moment...passed over ten passes of memtest #5 and am currently in windows priming away
2-2-8-2-9-15-2-3-1-2 rest is auto on my dfi
memtest shows bandwidth of 1843 mb/s

255 failed at 3.5 so i dont want to go higher

one thing you guys should make note of: the ram chips are wiped clean, meaning no information about the actual chips itself...doesnt have the two "dimples" the twinmos had (obviously i've owned both). the only information is on the sticker on the ram, which is exactly what ryan said they were

why did they wipe the chips clean ryan?
