I think it's because nVidia doesn't have any cut-down versions of the G71 yet.
If a 7900XT or 7900LE is released with 20 or 16 pipes then that might be something to compare too.

I agree with this. I think the 7900 GT is supposed to be compared to the X1900 XT (or X1800XT maybe?), and the X1900 GT to like a 7900 vanilla. (Just like X800 GT compared to 6800)

what about the X1800GTO vs X1900GT
the gto is on par with the 7600... the GT should be a little bit faster than the GTO imho but not on par with the 7900 series

They're both at the $300 mark, thus making them comparable.

Another thing is, a lot of 299$ 7900gt's come overclocked by default, so that would lead to even more of a beating for the X1900GT, tbh.

I think pprices will drop pretty quick (they always do) so that isn't a valid argument when a card is brand new. Maybe when its been out 3 weeks but not this early.

I still think the X1800XT is the best bang for buck (got one humming away quite nicely here, albeit loudly) considering how cheap they are. Hopefully they will be able to work out mastercardless xfire for the X1800 and then I'll be rocking. :D

Oh yeah, and now you can get them so cheap (£170) it really is a bargain.

The thing is, what place does the X1900GT have in the market? I dunno how much it goes for in the UK, but i'll hazard a guess at £230 to compete with the 7900gt. Yet, already, one of Ati's products beats the 7900gt, and can be got for £60 cheaper.
So why would one want an x1900gt? Beats me.

Well I am certainly liking the X1900GT but what would truely kick ass would be a 512Mb version of it.. I know I wouldn't mind paying for the extra memory.. :slobber:

Obviously, this means that the hardware still keeps its 3:1 shader-to-texture ratio.

It's nice that they readily admit it and update the article accordingly, unlike certain less ethical journalists.

If you notice the pictures, the fan on the Powercolor one is slightly bigger than both the HIS and Gecube models, an indicator of which should be cooler than the others ;)

I don't believe anyone with a phase change setup would get an X1900GT over the real deal (XT or XTX).

It's been awhile nn_step, I see you're up to less befoolery nowadays ;)

Very true.. Lately I've been working my ass working on the XS Benchmarking OS project [link in sig] which should be completely ready by the time Quad cores come out (and at that time people will rather quickly realize that windows XP does not recongnize 4 cores.. it will be able to deal with 2Physical or 4 Virtual but not 4 physical) And with a couple boat loads of work already into it.. we have made it so that it actually runs benchmarking Programs faster and allowing [the user to] obtain better scores. Chalked with features, Tools (still being made) and Be the able to support 64 Physical or 128 Virtual cores as well as 128Gb of Ram.
If you have a spare Drive.. trying it out and letting us know of any flaws you find in it will be greatly helpful.
Or if you are really ambitious you can become an Alpha tester.. PM me if you are interested.
