Question as I am beginning to save up for my X1900XTX, I know these things are power beasts and run hot (won't be a problem for my water cooling), how much more power do they actually use over the 7900's? Would anyone think I'd need to upgrade my OCZ 520w Powerstream to something else while using a X1900XTX oc'ed and a X2 3800+ @~3GHz?
Nope. My 520W OCZ runs the components in my sig just fine. Unless you're running 8 scsi drives or something, I wouldn't worry about it.Quote:

Is the x1900xtx still the better buy if I will be gaming at 1280x1024? My CRT and the LCD I will be buying doesn't support 1600x1200 :S
Either way I think the x1900xtx will be the better buy and can be had for cheaper too :P
Damn, I am also cannot decide what GFX i buy.
ATI X1900XT (480EURO)
or
7900GTX 512 (500EURO)
or
2x 7900GT SLI (650EURO)
3Dmark scores is not a priority, GAMEPLAY GAMEPLAY :)
If I want 3dmarks I would have bought the 2x 7900GT, but a single card with 512 instead of 256 makes a huge difference in some FPS tests.
Also the games in 2006 must be playable on my system.
To be able to play all the games from 2006 you need a 6600GT. Yup, its perfect.Quote:

There are few cases where 256MB is really better than 128MB, so likewise, I doubt 512MB will do much. If you have the money, it certainly cant hurt to have more MBs ;)
MikalCarbine,
If you are interested in Oblivion gameplay (it's a long game, 100's of hours'), WAIT for benchmarks of the game to appear before rushing to buying and then going through trouble of returning.
I am somewhat satisfied with my 7800GT and oblivion for now, and it'll get better once I get my WC. Has anyone read up ont he R580+? ATI is going to make a 80nm version of the x1900's, they will run cooler and be cheaper too ;)
I might wait for this
You mean 7900GT SLI or 7900GTX??? :)Quote:

I see some benchmarks that one 7900GTX 512MB performs the same as a 7900GT in SLI. (Battlefield 2 1280x1024 4xAA, anandtech review), but in other benchmarks the 7900GT SLI have a 20-30fps more then one 7900GTX/1900XTX.
I will buy the 2x 7900GT, because there are also very good overclockable, too bad i don't have the money for 2x 7900GTX or 2x X1900XTX.
As long as you only use 1 X1900 XTX card you should be just fine with the 520W Powerstream. Only when you get into Crossfire you need the 550+W PSU.Quote:
