It doesn't matter so much the price. It will be good to be 20$, but if it can't be we will have to accept it. The performance will be identical I think, but if it is designed by Stew why not buy it. I will want the G7, even that I know that the performance will not differ much from the Storm. This is the limit and it will not change any more, so why not buy the best when it is still available.Quote:

Just a quick a question about the Storms mounting hardware, im currently looking at choices to cool my Dual Opterton 275 machine, currently using 2x swiftech 6002 ( i think thats the name 1/2" dia), the mounting holes on the MSI K8N Master Far2 are infact xeon (603/604) holes, im just wandering if the swiftech comes with all nessersary mounting hardware for Xeon setups, i.e 4 threads 4 springs 4 nuts.
Thanks
Not sure about the rev 2 but no reason to differ from the original version that comes with the 4 threads 4 springs 4 specially sized nuts :)Quote:

they mention t hat they have Itanium mounts if needed (although im not sure if the storms baseplate is big enough to accomdate the new itanium core)
Does anyone happen to have pictures or (preferably) design specs for the G5/G6/G7/G8? I would be really interested to actually see these things (I know 3 of them havn't been implemented, which is why some design specs would be good). Are they basically just the same thing as the G4 but with smaller pins (smaller so that more can fit in the same area)? Are there material differences beyond the G5 being made of silver (does it have to be silver, or is that just because you might as well use it when you're getting this kind of custom work done?)?
It's sick, but I just bought a G4 and am already looking at what's next for me.. and I'd like to see these to get some ideas as to where the industry is going.
Serra
G5/6/7/8 all would use Silver(no material change), and yes the pins fit in the same area as the pins for the G4, otherwise they would be rather useless.
IIRC, Stew wont release the design specs for his waterblocks. On occasion I have know him to give a few details about certain specifications about the Storm, but nothing to the extent that you would be able to make a working copy of it.
Lets jsut sit and ponder one thing for second. If they infact have been released then why arent we as consumers able to get the blocks or mid plates. except in a a few rare instances?
- Brandon
Brandon, you can order the midplates from Swiftech, as well as the Storm Rev2, so it has been released. Whether or not the retailers have recieved it yet, I do not know.
Hmm I tried, almighty Maxx...
Can't seem to find anywhere I can just order the midplates...
Only the whole thing...
you can order them from swiftech... atleast thats what gabe said.
They're in their online store for $53.50.
-pickles
that's still pretty expensive for a mid plate... you can order whole waterblocks for that kind of money
tahts why they are 50 dollars.Quote:

i dont mind buying it for 40 shipped, but 62 shipped? NO WAY IN HELL!
Mike, while I agree that its too expenisve, think of it this way
Storm is 80 dollars right now..
80*.7 = 56 dollars.. I use this equation because gabe said 70% of the machine time is dedicated to the mid plate.
Another thing to consider.. Acelt is about the same price per volume as copper.. Atleast that is what I found when looking at a few suppliers.
save that money, keep working, pile up the money and then go order yourself a g5/g6/g7 (the silver ones) :P
so, maxx did ya get the measurements they would be extremely helpful while making an impringement block [which i'm doing]
thanks
i doubt you're going to get them. what we do know is 36 jets in the G4, 100-some jets in the G7 (in a space the size of a dime). baseplate has "cups" with little pins in the middle. the jets in the midplate extend into the cups by ??? mm.
which measurement do u want best?
the id of the nozzles
thanks
I'm not saying they aren't justified in charging that price if it's the actual cost. I believe you and Gabe. If I already had a storm block, I don't think I could convince myself to pay for the new mid plate at that price for a probably marginal improvement in performance. If I was buying a new block then I would just get the whole thing together.Quote:
