CPU & RAM burn-in guide

I have to inform you:
1) Mobile Bartons are not different than desktop Bartons.....
They are better steppings and in general achieve higher speeds than desktops....
That's why AMD set default Vcore for mobile Bartons=1.450 Volts.
Therefore if you bump your Vcore to 1.650 :D it is not actual overvoltage.
2) I tested two ABIT NF7-S.
Both of them were rock stable --> multimeter (on coil) always showed similar values with BIOS....
But other friends of mine noticed Vcore instability for their ABITs --> fluctuation....
So I cannot guess for your mainboard :(
3) Vdimm (without modding) was 2.9 in BIOS ---> 2.984 multimeter showed.
4) Vdd was 1.7 in BIOS --> 1.744 multimeter's value.

Thanks SeanKon! I was reading earlier that perhaps increasing vcore > 15-20% of stock results in instabilities and thats probably going to be near the max overclocking that is achievable. For a Barton, can I assume that 1.65 vcore is stock and go higher from that point. I attached some results from a XP-M 2400+ that I collected earlier. I figured I was probably at the near max MSF but = maybe not!.

I also found that I probably can't up the FSB as high as I would like. Maybe I have a bum NF7-S (a newer one with the blue dimm slots). At 10X/220 FSB, I can't boot into windows but at 10.5X/210 it's smooth and stable. I'm not using any modded BIOS and my mem is crucial PC3200.

By the way I would like to see O/c exponents I know from the past that in many cases Mobile's exponents are higher than desktop's.......

LOL my A64 cannot pass at 2750 MHz 32M SuperPi + teravolts!
Ambient temperature is three degrees lower....
Our buddy SoF (hey dude how are you there???) has posted here similar problems with his A64.....
Teravolts not kill always..... :D

I told you that I hade some strange issues as well. I checked them again and here are the results:
Maybe it is the memcontroller or the ram...was not going stable every day on 3080 MHZ, sometimes prime, 20hours later windows blue screen ^^
ram divider, some higher timings and it is running again.
New RAMs or Booster...because 2.7V will work even worse...maybe RAM burned down ^^
238MHZ RAM is the best I can get to reach ~3080MHZ but with 9.5x multiplier now :(
whish I kept my KHX BH5 they were great and could give me 255MHZ stable with much better timings.
But the OCZ ran 270MHZ DC some time ago....strange strange....I'm excited what happens nex ^^ -.-

BTW computing the exponent n from 2200 --> 2233 is 0.508 seems that your CPU is near to Breakdown Region
When CPU is in this area exponent n decreases rapidly....
On the other hand comparing your (1.664, 2233) pair with my desktop Bartons data most desktop Bartons achieved higher speeds with Vcores around 1.65 Volts.
Thus your CPU is an exception; not all desktop Bartons achieve higher speeds comparing with their desktop brothers.

Vdimm=2.7 is nothing for your extreme cooling system.

mascaras try to find your CPU limits first.
Depending on your cooling my voltage recommendations are here in 1st part OK you can bump your Vcore more if you want but it is not safe.
Follow the many recommendations above and let me know your process. :)

my vcore default its 1.40v and i can get 2400@vcore default (stable) 8M pi and prime95 with no problems , i didnt find max mhz with vcore default i past to next vcore (1.45v) , im using only the cpu burn, 2 sets of 3 hours per day and when i go sleep at night i use the prime95 . Sorry for late response but I have :stick: my Greek users I must control them :D at OcTech.

Some questions/suggestions to you now:
1) Do you use other CPU burn-in program?
The user |3ourne (look the 29th post in the second page) suggests an another method.
2) It is not necessary to run CPU Stretcher I don't persist to use it but take care when you burn your CPU.
3) Avoid teravolts!
4) Read very carefully how I found my CPU burn-in limit using O/c Bible.
But you must keep notes always.

more results next week. i only use cpu burn 3 sets of 3 hours per day and at night when i go to bed i use prime95.

I ran CPU burn-in (just to play with other one program) for 18 hours....
Three hours ago I retried 32M but crashed again.

My San Diego 3700+ is the first sample which burn-in did not help it.
Read Guidemania --> Part 12.

System Reporter shows you the averaged % CPU load during stretching time.
First of all you must BAN LOL RAM and pagefile info to minimize % CPU load.
Moreover play with update time option; for the system was every 2 seconds.
Setting ZZZ=70 after 2.5 minutes the averaged load was 48% (roughly)...
Therefore you are well informed. :)

Let say i'm doing 2.7ghz @ 1.5v which can pass at least SuperPi32M and prime stable for about 4 hours (error after 4 hours 30mins)...

Then I burn in the CPU using "CPU Burn-in" for 6 hours.

After finish 6 hours of burn-in, I try run prime (to check for stability) but met error at 2 hours. It seems that I'm loosing stability...isn't it?

So, what would the best thing to do... to reduce the clockspeed and retain 1.5V, or to retain the speed and increase voltage 1 notch (1.525V in motherboard)? Which one is a wiser move? :confused:

First of all I am sorry :( for this problem.
Seems that your CPU does not "love" burn-in so you should stop it.
If you want try CPU Stretcher for some hours and if the problem persists then stop this process.
My SanDiego 3700+ GKR :mad: did not gain any MHz performing this process (I said this above).
Trust me if I run CPU Stretcher for 6 hours or more OCCT crashes (same settings).
Therefore I do not run burn-in programs.

After I let it burn in for 6 hours, I turn my pc off so it is back to ambient temperature and "destressed" and when I boot up again, I'm longer primestable.
Could try that...

I mean post info for your system and the total progress (Vcores, FSB, multiplier, your CPU etc).....
Warning!
Don't increase FSB using CPU Stretcher too much!
Abnormal restarts are possible!

I just tried CPU stretcher today, couldn't really understand the 'TWEAK' parameter, so I just leave them blank. Priority I set to normal. Should be okay isn't it?

I mostly decrease my vcore 0.025 or raise the fsb 3, on a winchester 3200+ with 9x multiplier.
Ive been able to raise the fsb 15 and decrease teh vcore 0.150 this way. pretty impressive IMO. Helped a lot.

interesting update...

I had three sets/sessions of burn-in with CPU stretcher since last 2 days, each ran for 8 hours with normal priority. CPU was set to 2711MHz.

Session 1: Voltage set to 1.450V. CPU Stretcher caused reboot after the first hour. So I've decided to add little voltage.

Session 2: Voltage set to 1.475V. CPU Stretcher finished. But prime failed after three hours. Tried running OCCT, failed after 5 minutes.

Session 3: Voltage stayed at 1.475V. CPU Stretcher finished 8 hours. Did not try prime. Tried running OCCT, failed after 8 minutes.

Then, PC turned off for the night to rest.

This morning, ran OCCT and it passed!

Told ya your pc needs a rest after such working out ;)
EDIT: BTW, for burning in with watercooling, I just put my pump off and have 2 fans positioned at my 6002 to keep the temperature below 65°
I think it actually helps to heat your cpu up that hard.
