Robo1 please post all your details:
1) Your Processor, preferably with the details actually on the processor itself
2) The RAM you have tried
3) The motherboard and its revision (If its a DFI NF4 there is a sticker on the last PCI slot)
Make a signature with all your details.
This will help us to see which items are causing trouble.
Gosh. I love the DFI NF4. I love OCZ VX. I just wonder if I should be getting them now I see all these problems =(
Well, its finally happend - I have bootup problems now even if I don't pull the PC power plug from the wall.
I'm going to RMA my ram. I am currently running on a single stick, in the orange slot furtherest from the CPU. The other stick will not boot the PC at all.
Whether by itself or with the other stick.
Oh well....
Is any company working to find out whats wrong with the sticks that get cold boot problems ?
I have offered on the official OCZ board to RMA my RAM 'attention to someone' they just need to reply to 'whom'. I am in the EU, Denmark. Otherwise I will be sending my ram throught the normal RMA channels.
Ill add to this thread now too, as my problem still persist...grrr.

i am now running the system on el cheap value ram, just so i can work.
On a side note the value ram wont post in the yellow slots, but the VX clocked slightly higher when used in the yellow (when they would post)
OCZ GUYS:
If donating my PC would help find the solution to this problem i will gladly do it, however ii need few days to finish a project here before i can send it off or ill probably lose another customer and then ill fugging go broke and starve... it is the gayest most girly website ive ever had to create, a tough assignment to say the least i had to ask my girlfriend and her friends to help me on this one.

This is exactly what my twinmoss did!!!! When this problem first came up, I put both sticks in my son computer and it booted up no problem, so I though the ram was ok. Then, later after trying to figure out why it wouldn't boot on the dfi, and putting it back in my sons computer, noticed that one stick was showing as 256. WTF How is this possible? I just got a venice and have been playing around with it, and kind of forgot about this problem after rma-ing my ram and ordering some tccd. I'm not sure if it is a problem with the board, the ram, running the high voltage, or all of the above.Quote:

All these horror stories are starting to make me wonder if investing in a DFI board is the right thing to do :frag:
I'm starting to wonder if these High Voltage rams are not the culprit.
According the to AMD 64 datasheet the MemVref is allowed up to 2.9V.
We are going +0.6V over that, a 20% increase over the maximum rated voltage.
Has any research been done by OCZ on the effect this has on the processors memory controller?

Ever since I flashed to 510-3 I can't boot at all... I'm pretty sure it wasn't a bad flash.
Tonight I have some spare time so I'll try the board with some different RAM (I'm using OCZ EB with Micron -5B C chips, if it matters).
I'll let everyone know how it goes.
It really pisses me off becuase I was working fine with the 510-2 BIOS other than I couldn't get my RAM stable at 260MHz 3-2-2-8, even with 3.35V. I thought I'd try 510-3, but that might have been a mistake. :/
I had Win 2k installed on there yesterday and my CPU clocks like a charm. (I installed Windows at 2.6GHz at stock voltage without errors, didn't try higher.)

Yep, installed some generic Samsung TCCC and it booted fine. I flashed back to 510-2 and put my EB back in. I'm now running my new Venice @ 2.7GHz at stock voltage without problems.
I guess this board is just picky with RAM and BIOS combinations. It's something I'll keep in mind next round.
Also got this boot problem thingie...
Didn't think anyone else would have it, so never posted it. But it has been going on for quite some time... like 2 weeks after I purchased it (bought it the week the board came out in Europe).

Had a 3500+ winchester before the venice, also had the problem, was "hoping" it was my cpu/mobo combo this morning... it wasn't that :(.

Geil UltraX 4400 x 2 512meg = coldboot probs
Geil ULD pc3500 x 2512meg = coldboot probs
Cosair Twinx1024 3200LL BH5 = coldboot probs
The DFI NF4 board is a POS.
Just got the Abit Fatality AN8-SLI and running the Geil UltraX without issues.
Want an end to the cold boot problems, then piss off the DFI NF4 POS.
I was just speaking to an OCZ representitive and he said that they are talking to DFI about a soon to come fix. He said it was complicated as they had to translate to Chinese for all their messages.
did this cold boot issue happen after you guys unplug power cord/switch off PSU power?

Yesterday the cold boot issue hit me too :(
No boot possible and 3 of 4 red leds on.
Tried a lot of sticks,but a no go...Just got UTT/BH5.
Should I replace the bios chip or any other tips?
May be you can replace the Bios chip but I read from some forum that the Bios chip can't cure Cold Boot. Anyway, you may try and may be miracle will happen. The most tricky part for this cold boot is that we are not 100% sure about the cause(s). It may due to one cause or several causes at the same time. May be it is your PSU, RAM, graphic Card, bios chip or the flashing of bios. Yes, now I am also living with Cold Boot. Hope there is miracle happen one day and I can boot up my comp with two sticks of RAMQuote:

My Venice causes the same issue. Ran TCCD great. As soon as I put in low latency UTT or BH, it would boot, but after setting to 2-2-2, no boot. Until I replace bios chip. set to 2-2-2 again, even at 200 MHZ, bam, hosed boot again. Once hosed no boot no matter the memory type, slot, number of sticks, remove battery, clear bios foerever, whatever. The only way to boot again is to stick in a hot-flashed bios chip, only to crap out again if I want to try low latency. Not fun at all.Quote:

A major cause of cold boot issue = BIOS
Reasons why.
When a board first boots it runs default speed to engage the video bios etc, then all overclocks are applied etc and you can enter cmos.Now, if the fsb and timings are applied before the voltage the board will cold boot. Remember we very rarely see the video bios and this all happens in the blink of an eye so your screen will always look black.
So to explain what should happen.
1 you push the power button.
2 the board boots at defaults to initiate video
3 the voltages should be applied
4 the overclock and other setting are applied
5 the board boots past cmos and you load OS
Now if it doesn't go in that basic order the board will freeze on the overclock as the ram has no voltage....this is why you are having a lot of issues with high voltage ram..IE VX or any UTT BH5 ram out there.
Cure....bios rework, or have the board set really slack timings at boot which allow the ram to pass the fsb stage and then see the high voltage it needs. I do this in most of the bios mods i release as it really helps with cold boot issues.
If you cold boot, measure how long the ram takes to recieve the voltage it needs, remember it should see it very close to the start of the boot cycle, if its a few seconds in there will be issues.
I hope this explains the main cause of cold boot issues, and why RMAing the ram is usually not the cure.
Remember the board overclocks the ram, it has to do it correctly for everything to go smoothly.
1 last point...why does TCCD not have this issue?
TCCD or TCC5 does not have this issue as the board is booting at 2.6V or so, many of the modules are able to cope with the fsb at this VDD.
