Yes, this has been playing at the back of my mind since I rebuilt/upgraded the systems guts and made the discovery after my first bit of clocking. The only thing to really change were mobo/ram/cpu during the upgrade. I don't fancy spending the moola to find out if that's the case though as I've heard a lot of people mentioning the same problem and it could also be related to the chipset as much as it could be to the 12V rail?

I've also just recently done an extremely neat cable tidying job and routed most of them behind the motherboard. :stick:

Been tinkering so much since I got the setup that I'm not really bothered since it only affects my bench runs atm and I do want to leave it alone eventually since it's not just a bench machine, it's my main rig.

I'm off into town to do some shopping in a bit. It's going to be a tossup between some nice new speakers and the psu. Been putting off the speakers a looooong time now but I don't like the idea my psu could also possibly be limiting my max chip oc if the video is showing weakness. I can probably live with it for a while until my next lump of earnings comes through :)

My videocard loops '05 @ 415 core but freezes in '01 almost instantly. What the hell is up with that?! Load temp is 46C [now on water, 20C down from stock cooling]

Almost same thing here. I don't know if it's able to loop in 05, but I get it through @ 425 yet 01 crashes at 415.

mine can do 410/600 which is very nice, but only when room temp is 26c or below
now its 29c and i have to do 400/1180. thats game stable and case is closed.
cooled by nv5 and 2 fans stuck to side cooling memory.

i need to mod cooler to add ramsinks becuase i have found, on 6800 cards heat is a much bigger problem than power, and the core heats the memory up heaps and cuases arts to hold back clocks on both

in winter i could do ~435/620+ easily, but not happening right now

Nice stuff, beats my 455 on air that I hadn't seen higher then.....but can you do 1325 on the memory? :p:

About the 05 01 thing....it could just be lack of voltage for those clocks, as for whatever reason, 3DMark2001 seems to drop my XT-PE's voltage the most out of all of my benchmarks, especially in 01 Nature. I'm not saying that the GT experiences the same voltage droop as my XT-PE, but it would make sense, as more or less the same stuff started happening to me before I figured things out.

I noticed that my GT3 score is much less than his one although I have much higher clocks. Anyone knows how this can be?

Ur bios have really really slow timings! Thats why u can clock that high! (imho) ;)

465 is dead on where Ultra's are on air. If your memory did 1.28 or 1.30 without artifacts, you would have a full blown Ultra basically. Either way, nice GT. That core is a keeper for sure.

Well, it's a nvidia reference design board, nothing special. With stock cooling and stock bios, I couldn't get over 410. After tweaking cooling, biosses and especially the power supply to the card, clocks went up. I'm now at 465, but I can do better as I have no artifacts at this speed. Power is a major issue though.

Gravedigga: Cores clocks have nothing to do with timings, only memory speeds benefit from slower timings.

IvanAndreevich, I have the same problem as you. If I run it at 1.4V, 3DMark01 locks up whereas 1.3V is 100% stable. I've heard that it is a problem with the NF3 chipsets, but I'm not completely sure.

Anyway, I can reach 420/1150 on stock. I could probably go higher but I haven't tried yet.

I built a system for somone recently with an eVGA 6800 GT - put a 1.4V BIOS in place and used a spare Ultra cooler.

465/1140 benchable AM3

AM 3 - 79025

450/1130 on 3Dmark05

3Dmark05 - 5975

455/1130 on 3Dmark03

3DMark03 - 14389

I looped 3DMark03 30 times, all tests, to find the reliable mark - 440/1130.

I'd like to see what you'd get in 05 with the 71.20-driver. Probably more than 6100-6200. Then another 100 if you use the lod-tweak/cheat.

So 2001 kills the GT's like that for everybody? Mine HARD-LOCKS the system almost instantly @ 415 and gives major garabage on the screen. Yet I can play CS:S and loop 3dmark2005 for ages..

I have the same problem with 2001 (I get colored snow almost immediately). I'm thinking I have a power issue (working on it), since I have dropped the temps of this card like 35C with water. :confused:

One thing I was thinking might be a problem is 2001's switch to 60Hz. That can't be helpful for stability. Do the other marks do this?

i have the same hard lock issue with my gt, but when i scale back my cpu overclock, it goes away. i notice that my gt hardlocks more often when i had it flashed to 1.4v. i'm leaning towards thinking that i'm having a psu issue. i'm running an ocz520 with a ton of drives (5hd, 2optical), water pump etc. using some psu calc, i'm up to 516watts. that's a little too close to the psu's max without taking into account that i'm overclocking. i'll know for sure if it was a psu issue, 700watt zippy should be delivered tomorrow. i just hope that i can tolerate the noise this beast is supposed to generate.

I did 455MHz at 1.4v with my NV5'd Inno3D GT and HaLDoL did 465. Two highest I've seen so far.

I know that. My point was that the switch between resolutions (desktop v. benchmark) might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Just a theory.

But it's only Car Low that freeze, other Tests run fine. The '01 result in my Sig.
it's with 419 MHz CL and the rest is with ~ 440 MHz. I'm don't think that it is a
PSU issue, but i'm not sure.

I did a 470 run, but there was slight artifacting. I need more volts on the core, but the 1.5V bios did not help (instant freeze). I'll try a hardmod.

Wierd, I have no problems with the 1.4v bios. Havn't tried 1.5v as my temps get up to 78c sometimes and this is with the evga copper heatsink. What brand is everyones cards that don't work properly with the 1.4v bios?

I've decided to flash back to the original bios (1.3V).
Even at 400/1100, I'm getting garbage on the screen, once 3d01 starts.
After flashing back to stock speeds (350/1000), I overclocked the card back to 400/1100.
Sometimes, I can run 3d01 without any problems, other moments, I'm getting the same garbage on the screen and I have to reboot the system.
Tested this on the Neo2, Gigabyte 8KNS and ASUS P4C800-E (P4). Same problem on each board.
Don't know what's causing all this. PSU's I used are the Fortron 530 (on the A64 sys) and an older Antec 400W (P4 system with only 1 hd and a dvd).
