I think I would just go with the leadtek and be happy with that. Something went wrong on the albatrons. The first batch was great and I have even heard the 4600 arent doing as good either.:usa:

Since nVidia are ramping up the production on quality silicon (NV30) the production of the Ti-chips may have been transferred to older (lesser?) production units to give place to the GF-FX chip. I don't know, I just think it's weird that a chip suddenly turns to the worse. A few people are lucky to get cards with chips that the manufacturer had in stock before. Well, my particular chip is rev. A3, week 36 I think. Rather fresh.
Another Update.. Looks like im gonna try to get my money back, and buy from another place.
Hi Anthony,
In regards to your issue, I would suggest you to exchange another with the vendor if you can. Maybe if you want, you can try with a different vendor as well. Please go to our web site at http://www.albatron.com.tw/Where2buy.php. However, to my knowledge, Albatron manufactures all products in a single standard, there is no special settings or batch among them. Please let us know if you have more questions, we will do our best to assist you. Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Roger Chien

Subject: RE: Albatron Geforce 4 ti4200P Turbo Problems..
hello again,
if you could please refer to this thread on this message board about all the people having troubles with your video card.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...0102#post60102
There are Many people that cant even reach 300/650.
Thanks.
I'm fairly certain that if you buy the same card from someone else you're not going to get a better card unless you're lucky with that certain chip or if the vendor have a batch of older Albatron cards built with the older (and more overclockable) components.
I wonder if it's possible for someone to compare the components and quality of the newer/older Albatron cards. Or if people could check their cards for revision numbers/build dates/etc. for comparison. I don't have an Albatron but it would be interesting to know if it's the cards themselves or the nVidia chip that has turned bad, that would explain why other brands are experiencing the same thing.
Well im more looking to buying a better card. im gonna email newegg tonight, and ask for my money back.
i just gotta find a better card tho..
i have a pelt block comming to me on wensday, so i gotta find a good card to use it on.
Anyone have any ideas?
Well, depends on how much money you can afford to spend. Go for an ATI 9700 (standard is cheaper) or wait for GeForce FX? If you've got a limited cash flow (like most of us) you could go for a Radeon 9500 Pro? Or a real Ti4400 with 3.3ns RAM (the Ti4400's should generally be built with higher quality components, but it's just a guestimate from my side)
Well id like to get a gf4 w/ 8x. i Cant spend more then 200 shipped if i do.Quote:

and even at that id have to wait till i got my money back then id have to wait a few weeks to re-order cuz my cc is maxxed at the moment.
thats if newegg will even Fully refund it.
So im kinda in a tough spot.
ill email newegg and see what they will offer.
1. if they wont refund, ill see if albatron usa will exchange me cards.
2. if they do ill buy whatever card that i can for 200 flat. but i looked on newegg and i didnt see any other 3.3ns or lower memory for ti4200/4400 for that price.
Albatron has 8x 4200 comming out sometime soon, but i dunno if they'll be trubo models or not. id like to exchange and pay a lil more for one of those. But i doubt it would be worth it.
get the gainward ti4200 128 mb with 3.6ns mem its agp 8x for 198.Ive decided thats what im gettin, going back to my fave brand:)
is that the best choice?Quote:

EDIT: http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_cont...w42008x&page=1
They didnt get the card oc'd very high. my albatron does higher then they got the gainward too.
hm, i dont think thats the card for me. i might have to save up and get that all in wonder pro 9700 in dec with my xmas money.
Feel I have to mention the Point of view XP 128MB here. Its really a great board. You should consider it if your looking for a ti4200 :). Think its about as expensive as the Albatron.
My clocks are probably higher than average but the card is still a great performer. I can do 3dmark at 365/800. Stock was something like 305/720 with 100% stability. Could bench with mem at 740 with artifacts. Max core 310 something with a dead silent cooler and stock paste.
This card makes my old ti4400s look really really bad ;).
Thanks - The Point-of-View TI4200 is not available in the states...
Another potential good one is the ASUS V9280S Ti 4200 - here is a review
here - OC'ed successfully at 305/660MHz ... appearently under $200 and there is a 8x AGP version now...

ok all i was bored so i desided to mess with my card some more..
i have my mobo not in a case sitting on my desk w/ a 80mm fan sitting on the cards side. 30cfm or so. Still all stock. i was able to run 300/650 in 3dmark FULL. This is useing Rivatuners (low level oc, NOT driver OC).
I got a 200point gain from 300-600 to 300-650.
Also my card WAS not runnign HOT. A lil warm at any of these speeds.
320/650 gave me MASSIVE artifacts
310/650 3dmark froze. (was able to hit esc to boot to desktop)
300/670 game me MASSIVE artifacts
Note: any core speed over 300 will freez. Memory Speed over 650 will heavly artifact.
So it seems the card needs more vmem and better core cooling(possibly) IMO.
What im thinking about doing is Either modding the card(other then cooling i dont wanna do exp.vmod) 0r buying The Gainward 2.8ns ti4600 just for the hell of it so i can get 320/730+. Altho thats a 120dollar upgrade for a gain of 20mhz core and 80mhz memory at stock speeds, Worth it? well im not sure. i dont want red in my case, and the albatron is so damn sexy...
As far as Newegg i have emailed them twice about a Refund, and got no responce. well i thought id file a RMA-Refund and see if they will gimme my Full Money spent Return (hopeing tax included).
I will keep all you updated on this. As im a lil uncertian what i should do.
If it is runnin at 300/650 KEEP IT.
unless you change to a Radeon 9700/pro or a 9500pro (i say 9500pro cause you would obviously oc it), you will see no real increase in performance.
wow by makin it 320/670 you might get 5 fps more in actual gaming. that is not gonna allow you do a whole lot more unless you are gettin under 30fps now which you obviously are not.
on tuesday, since i will get a 8rda+ then and will have no need for any PCI cards, i am gonna try hookin up a 92mm 60cfm fan and put it in one of the pci slots hooked next to the card. i HOPE i can get 300 now.
all i know is i burned my finger touchin the back of the card when it was runnin 3dmark at 300/630 (it crashed a few mins in)
the cores get VERY hot and the stock cooler is crap.
yea, thats what im sorta thinking to..
im gonna get the Epox nf2 if i can sell my water stuff that i didnt even use (Big 0 waste of $).
the Epox has Vagp to 1.8v. that might be enough to get more out of our cards or at least make our cards playable in games at 300/650. i know my card will run 300/650 through 3dmark, but i have tested in actually gamming.
i will tonight tho. ive been playing alot of Natural selection (HL mod like cs in a way) and ive been crashing Alot.. So im gonna reinstall and try those new 41.09 drivers or whatever they are that came out. onion peeps seem to say they increased Alot..
so ill do some long term oc testing over the next few days. i have at least 2 days till newegg will respond to my RMA-Refund claim. So ill test and test and see what they say.
Btw, i found a guy in the UK that has a few of these cards for really cheap. So i might try and get one cheap and test it too. See which one would do better and send the other back or sell it.
I installed the 41.09 drivers and they seemed to work ok. Next time I started my computer the screen was all messed up and impossible to see anything, so I reinstalled the 40.72's. Yesterday they released the 41.04 WHQL's, and they work well.
Anyway, I've found a GF4 Ti4200 that sounds VERY interesting. Wish I'd known about it before I got my ABIT Gf4. The manufacturer is SUMA which have released 3 different Ti4200 cards:
S/U/M/A/ Platinum GeForce4 Ti 4200 64 MBytes 3.6ns Hynix
S/U/M/A/ Platinum GeForce4 Ti 4200 SE 64 MBytes 3.3ns Hynix
S/U/M/A/ Platinum GeForce4 Ti 4200 SE 128 MBytes 3.3ns Hynix
The overclocking results are as follows:
S/U/M/A/ Platinum GeForce4 Ti 4200 64 MBytes 250/500 -> 310/640 MHz
S/U/M/A/ Platinum GeForce4 Ti 4200 SE 64 MBytes 250/550 -> 320/650 MHz
S/U/M/A/ Platinum GeForce4 Ti 4200 SE 128 MBytes 250/550 -> 300/715 MHz
Getting a 128mb card to 300/715 on stockcooling is amazing. The core goes higher on the 64mb cards but that's just pure chance, you may as well get a chip you can overclock to 320 on a 128mb card.
The page I found all the info is here:
http://www.digit-life.com/articles/sumati4200/
Right - known about that one but where do you find it in the states? :)
I'd like to get this compared to some ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (just released and about the same price...) - the 9500 Pro competes with the TI4600 and is better in many aspects if you read the latest reviews...
--fibo
So far the reviews I've seen seems biased one way or another (in the [H] way). Besides, the price difference between the 9500 Pro and the 9700 Regular is so small I'd rather go for the 9700.
Radeon 9500 and 9700 non-pro available at gameve here
fyi.
--fibo
well i found out the 9500 only has 128bit memory bus, the 9700 pro has 256bit. So thats one reason why thr card is alot cheaper.
So the 9500 cant be much better then a 4600. So i think im just gonna cough up 20 dollars and get the Gainward ti4200 agp8x 128mb vivo card instead and see what she will do.
Well, the ones to get (if you can't afford the 9700 Pro for now) are IMHO:Quote:

1) 9500 Pro (not much difference in price with regular 9500 but much better - compares with 4600 - here and here
--> this one shows the performance/features difference with a recent TI4200 8x - might want to read it :)
2) 9700 (non-pro)
3) or a 4200 that OCs very well but as you know you can't always assume the one you get will oc great... *cough*Albatron Turbo *cough*...sorry I could not resist :)
--fibo
well id rather upgrade all my other parts then having the best damn vid card. to be honest. vid cards are just braging rights. this albatron plays UT/CS/NS fine. so i dont think i need much better. So the gainward will be enough till i need to upgrade again. Cuz dx9 aint even out yet, and most games dont even use the vid card at its full strength.. So yea.. ill read those artiles in a lil bit, But i think im set on that gainward till the FX becomes affordable. I dont think i could do ATI.
i got my card in my sig at this at stock cooling i have put some shin etsu thermal compound and a geforce4 cooler on it (stock cooler was crap)and have yet to try and crank up the core but i will test it later and let you guys know
if u guys want to know i got the card from ocsystems.com
shin etsu thermal compound..
whered you get that? i heard is suppose to be better then as3.
Personally I feel cheated when buying the Abit GF4 Ti4200 OTES. With that cooling system (it's sooo loud) I thought it'd do better than 300/575, especially the memory, that's why I got the 64mb instead of the 128mb. Unfortunately I can't RMA it since it does what it's supposed to (275/555).
One problem is that two RAM modules are half covered by the OTES system (you can see what I mean here: http://www.deviantpc.com/reviews/abi...0/picture3.jpg), so adding heatsinks will be a problem with those two modules.
