Cowpuppy, how much vdimm are you getting from that mod. It seems to me that using that method didn't really work and you had to use the method that removed the resistor to get over 3v
I can only get 2.91-2.92 then windows freezes, only a couple people that I know of were able to get 3.1v even using the remove the resistor mod. It raises the voltage the same it's not the method it's just that the boards sucx
I never did the vcore mod as it is, and would be the smallest soidering I have done, but I would probably have over a 3ghz 24/7 rig if I did and be able to jump up into the top 10 of the ORB. Now thats really tempting.
I had Hell-Fire do the mods on mine. Did an excellent job, but haven't fired it up yet. I'm sure the mod would put you over 3G. Another 50 mhz would put you right up there.
Ya Hell-Fire is the mod king here at XS. I'm just waiting on the DFI 939 board. I may have a chance to get one of the 1st ones from a local vendor and I may just ask him to push for a beta board 4 me.
This board does rock for a 24/7 rig all I had to do was and my chiller and pelt and thats with a old install OS and over a 100gigs of games installed and click the start button in 01.
The Asus is a nice board and overclocks very well. Hopefully, the DFI will be able to do it all. I'll probably wait until I see some results from it. I've ginea pigged enough for a while
I don't think there's a point I'm gonna be using 2x 512 BH-5 100% of the time, and frankly they don't like to OC well regardless of voltage.Quote:

VCore on this board on the other hand, I think max is 1.8V which is more than plenty for my GT to work with.
The modder in me will find an excuse to try that VDDR mod though :D
I'm wondering if I can just do a 3.3 line bypass mod on this thing? Not sure if that'll be safe with this via board though, I know 3.3 bypass works just fine on the NF3's.
In any case I finished installing windows/sp1a/dx9 blah blah, just gotta install my benchmarks and games then I can OC.
I'll post back in a few when I'm done

I got a question for those who are using BH-5 with this board.
is your CAS Latency 2 or 2.5?
with 2-2-2-6-12-16 @ 220x11 I couldn't run Super Pi 1M after the first run
I had the vcore set to 1.65 which showed up as 1.7 on the bios, and DRAM set to 2:1, using 2.8V
I'm guessing I reached the limits of BH-5 witht his voltage, looks like 5:3 is next up
Not sure what else I need to set, could use some help here :P

I can run 236 1/1 with my Mushkin 3500 @ 2.91v 2-2-2-6-12-16 It all depends on how good your BH5 is I guess. I just found the max my mem would go with the given voltage and then started raising the multiplier to get my max clocks.
schr0et: the 3.3v cap mod or direct vdimm mod won't work from what I understand b/c of the OVP will not boot board then :(
Bah my 1 Gig XMS 3502 never did OC too well to begin with regardless of voltage.
I'm wondering if I can get maybe 230+ if I use 2-3-3-7?
Worth a try I guess.
@JNav89GT - ah go figure thanks for the heads up
schr0et: I'd sell that off and get some EB, Ballistix, or OCZ Gold PC4000 Rev 2. Run high fsb at pretty good timings
But... But... I love my BH-5 /tears
Man I went through so much trouble to get these sticks, took me like 3 months too.
I dunno but OCZ 3700 EB does seem very tempting, my understanding is that they run 3-2-2-8 @ 260ish with 2.9V ? If thats the case then I'll definetley have to try them.
Any idea how much a gig of 3700 EB goes for? Or if 3500 is just the same?
Thanks man
Erm EB is about $300-320 I think.
My 3500 EB tops out about 245 at 3:2:2:8 at 2.85-2.9v. More volts doens't bring more mhz for me. Also I have to cool ram w/fan to get over 238mhz
BTW: I had diarrhea of the wallet today. Ordered an MSI K8N Neo2 939, and an Asus A8V ver 2.0
Hah! I'm dying to buy a 6800 GT from newegg since they got the EVGA one for 399.99 now, but I really want an ASUS 6800 GT (<--- I think they have something like "gamers version" which I'm guessing is a GT? or a PR pumped 6800 regular) So it seems that the EB costs as much as BH5 does, thats a bit discouraging :( But nonetheless I do need ram that can go 1:1 at 260ish. Do you think its possible to purchase directly from OCZ?Quote:

Gotta love the resellers jacking prices :(

A way to increase vdimm higher than 2.8 without any mods? :slobber:
How, pls share
crap is relative. Most of the boards I had will run stock or even overclock a bit just fine. I am comparing them to a higher overclocking board that I might already have or be trying to upgrade. Anyway, I should have said crap to me. For someone else it may have been fine. But there is a heck of a strugle with some of these to get anywhere compared to some of the previos platforms. It is also quite different from board to board in the same model line. Every result I have seen so far from anyone having the 2.0 A8V has been less than my 1.02 without mods.Quote:

A more honest and accurate response is that you couldn't get it to run right. I've run both bh-5 and eb with very good success with this board. I've also ran the Asus with good success. I was able to run the Abit with moderate succcess until I lost it to condensation. All of these boards will run resonably well if you take the time to figure them out. The giga is just faster and more stable
my 3700EB is runn'n 246 3-2-2-10 3d stable at 2.7vdimm(oddly and suddenly undervolting board, may want to check yours v1.02 here).Quote:

Vdimm mod this week hopefully, ive grilled hell-fire on some things and should be able to go pick up my supplies tomarrow. Im shoot'n for 3.05vdimm, most people get 3.15 before OVP protection kicks in and hell-fire said pkrews board did 3.2 and climbing but with no cpu. I want 275x10 3-2-2-5/10 1:1 on air, hopefully i'll get there. 247x11 kicks me to desktop in lobby high so im think'n my voltage is limiting me. Strange thing is i was able to 3d at 250x10 1:1 3-2-2-8 but i cant now so somethings up and im not sure what. I'll do a bios flash before i do the vdimm mod and maby that will solve that paticular little problem.
i'll keep ya updated.
So Im figuring that no one has modded their Asus 1.02 boards yet?
quite a few people have, there are 2 or 3 diffrent vdimm mods and i think 2 vcore mods known for it.
I got this far with my board, I'm liking it I got a lot of headroom left. I didn't even need to push it to get 2.86

what kind of cooling schrOet?
Wow..... I need a phase change unit. Farthest I can go is 2.7 on watercooling. This is with the A8V 2.0. Anyone know if the OCZ DDR Booster will work on the 2.0?
I could have been a little less defensive about the giga as well. I agree, this is an awkward platform compared to what I've seen before. I've never owned a board that I've had to boot using high fsb regardless of the vdimm I've used. Hopefully, some of these issures will get ironed out as time goes on. In the meantime, I guess we're just going to have to do the best we can.Quote:

Yep, I was hoping for more out of the new Asusl, but maybe it's just going to take a little time for people to get the board tweaked and it'll start doing better

I got 2-2-2-6-12-16 stable with those clocks as well
I'm thinking 3.1 will be my max with 3.0 being every day usable.
:toast:
My 3500EB should get here on thursday or friday hopefully so I'll be able to do some 1:1 then :D
