I have a doubt, sell my bh-5 for 2*512Mb of ballistix or not?

I make the change only for the quantity of ram...

if you need a gig, then its not a bad place to start. I had issues with this after a bit of heat again maintainging ras to cas 3 at 220Mhz. My sticks seem to really wanna be at ras cas 3. But you can go pretty high, my previous results where without a fan. No decent way to stick one anywhere around at the mo.

might try later, waiting for this stupid ath xp waterblock to turn up, don't wanna keep re-doing it , too hot for much effort.

I think, for uk pricing at least its very good and probably gonna offer you VERY decent performance for least cash. You really need a gig, so assuming you are on 2x256. If you can't afford eb, this could be the next best thing. I do think, based purely on the testing at higher speeds, more people will get better clocks with the EB.

The sucky thing is, this ram is £175ish uk and US< but EB is about £190(pc3700) there and £260-290 here. From what i could see anyway. Sucks being in the uk.

Yes I have 2*256 that you can see in my sign with a shot.

I prefer bench at game, so I still waiting for a decision of upgrade (3700EB is the dream, obviously ).

i think i will order 2x512, might go the pc4000, see if it does markedly better, but will be hard to call. Either way, will be interesting to see if the 512's also clock well, or if they've had any kinda issue clocking 512 sticks as well.

can you turn the air condition up in your room, Andy? also nice half multis, I see no option for this with my chaintech VNF3 and I hear half multis may have issues, can anyone confirm? It should start getting cooler in a month or two but thats a long time to abstain from 3dmark ;)

i don't see why you need to point out that your 3500EB's are capable of ddr600... don't you do testing for OCZ? who's to say you don't have cherry picked modules from them???

i just dont' think it's fair for you to say EB's are doing better considering once again...

well, part of my job is to see how the cmpetitions modules are doing...i have searched many forums to see if the 3200 is any good...fact is 1 week code is good...the rest is no where near.

If you had reaserched like I have you would know this...1 week code for any chance of 2-2-2 after that you are looking at 3-3-3 at 500 and 2.5-2-2 to 205fsb or so max.

what does researching have to do with your comments about EB's being better? the focus here is on your comment...

you are missing the point of what i was saying.

you basically knock on the "competition" and then say "hey look at my sticks that can do ddr600"...

if anything, what i'm trying to get at is that what you say is VERY VERY VERY bias because you work for OCZ

so let's not try to say things like "he (Wes) got cherry picked modules..." when ocz may be sending you cherry picked modules...

so who's to say that the dfi wouldn't "unleash" the power on the ballistix?


honestly, i have no grudge against OCZ as I have been looking at getting some 3700EB's for a long time now... but it kind of sucks that you can make comments like you do and have no representatives from crucial be able to respond to the comments you make

Go read the other forums, many are doing nowhere near as good. With 90% of EB doing a lot better than what it is rated at, I posted the comments I did, so im not biased in any way im just sharing whatI know.

You have to look at a broad range of results...for now I believe 1 week is good on G die, nothing before or after is close.

so isn't a bit premature to say that there's only 1 good week when we've only seen the ballistix for such a short period of time???

like you said, look at the broad range of results but that's hard to do with these modules which are fairly new...

so let's wait a while before we say that these modules aren't as good as EB's because it may just be possible that these mature as time passes...

I have both EB3700 1 X 512mb and Crucial Ballistix 1 X 512mb and I can't get the Ballistix to match the EB..... I have tried with vdimm up to 3.4v w/ fan blowing over them both...

I won't have any solid results until after this next weekend... I'll be able to finish my vdimm, and chipset mods... :D

G die has been out a while now....if it comes good again we will know, trust me.

Im sure many will remember week 30 BH5, the IC's that will do 2-2-2 at 233fsb 2.6V, the microns G are just the same, 1 week wonders, while there are a few modules that do clock well with the G die from other weeks, the C die does seem to be more consistent at the moment, and for those who are looking for good results this is maybe not worth the gamble.

With regard to me being a little biased, im bound to be, but I also care that people who are looking for good ram get exactly that. Overclocking is based on a lot of luck, and if I can help guys narrow the odds a little I will.

Although my stick of Ballistix has made me happy it does seem that results are all over the place at present, so I am glad I have been lucky for once.

One thing is that they do not seem to respond well to voltage, at 2.65v I could do 240 at 2.5-2-2-5, but at 2.85v it was only 242 !

I have just got a OCZ booster so this weekend will see if the extra voltage lets my EB 3700 have a good boost.

yes week 30 may have been one week wonders but weren't bh-5's the most wanted ic's for the longest time despite that?


i have nothing against ocz once again but i do have a problem with you saying that you're not bias at all and then saying later, 'i'm bound to be alittle bias'...

I'm going to defened my EB on this one also. With 2.9vdimm on my A64 3200+ CH and K8N-Pro my 3700EB does 256mhz. Of course thats 7x256 with max mem set to 166. Even 1:1 they beat out the ballistix at 235mhz. I'm sure this ram has alot more in it, the dang things just don't quit.

BTW, All on a un-modded, stock cooled system. NO fan over the EB.

-EB3700 MAX= 264mhz w/ 3,3,2,5 (1t)

vdimm 2.85v - 3.4v

- Ballistix 1 X 512mb = 260mhz (same timmings)
- EB3700 1 X 512mb = 280mhz ( 3,2,2,5 (1t) )


2 X 512mb vdimm 2.85v - 3.4v w/ fan blowing across them (50cfm)

- EB3700 = 272mhz (same timmings)
- Ballistix = 245mhz (same timmings)
