Just stating the facts.
I didnt want to start a war here.. Take a step back guys and let the results speak for themself.. Now would / could bench a 3700 vs. 3800 in SPI, PIfast, 3dmark01. That would be very nice.
Storm:
I dont think people are thinking of you as a s939 hater but I personally think that your writing style comes slightly agressive and hard on sort a speak.. Its nothing to critizice but sometimes it would be nice just to take a step back before writing..
Now beers on me dude :toast:
No, you are stating part of the facts. We both know that merely tweaking a timing here or a slider there can affect the score as much as FSB or CPU MHz. The MHz doesn't even begin to tell the whole story.Quote:

My writing style is not subtle, that's for sure. I'm just stating my opinion like everybody else though. Everyone is free to take or leave it as they choose.:D
Here you go storm 12 X 244, stock clocks on the XT, untweaked win2k sp4. Compair that to Klngpln's stock at 12 x 253

939 superiority is proven now : 700 pts more with 100 mhz lower about, even newcastles 939 could do better than 3700+.
I think the 3700+ (with +250 FSB) perform as well an FX53 940 at same frequency about.
754 is dead, long live the 939
not in 3dmark01se, the cache comes into play in car low/drag low and lobby tests signifcantly. Dual channel only helps in lobby tests and very very slightly in car high it seems. S939 newcastles give up about 40fps in car low and around 60fps in drag low with x800/6800class cards. The diffrence with 9800 class cards wassnt very appearant.
look at this , you can learn with this graphic (from a extra serious french site)

what is "1 mo"? 1mb of cache?
Nice scores pkrew:toast:
But you guys have to understand that the an50r is one of the worst scoring boards of all nf150 clock for clock.
With nf250 chipset on epox, my lobbies are much higher than with the shuttle. Also, in that bench my ldt is @ 2.5, but on the epox I can run htt frequency at 4x up till 250fsb then 3x till 320fsb!
Scores on these benchmarks are relative to chipsets as well. THe epox score more than shuttle @ stock.
I'll be posting some comparisons of the two chipsets.....you'll see :)
I hope this statement wasn't partly based on my shuttle bench because that would be silly :)Quote:
754 is dead, long live the 939
For me, most important thing is overclocking potential and right now 939fx doesnt seem to have it right just yet...I figured I wouldnt be getting a 939fx over 3.2ghz on cascade becasue the mobos have issues.....so in the mean time until kick as* nf3 board comes out, i can play with 3700 which I know will do it with right cooling :/
1Mbyte=1Mo yes :)
well hopefully we can all come to some sort of agreement. IMO this debate is rather fruitless. There are some very strong opinions at work here and nobody seems to be very open minded. Myself, I bought an FX b/c I wanted the best and could afford it at the time. Was it a smart choice, erm no not really given my needs but my wife continually tells me what a dumbass I was so this is a self fulfilling prophecy :). Anywho! Opp and I just finalized a deal which will send his 3800+ to me and I will have 2 sckt 939 setups. One with FX53 and one with his 3800+ He is fairly confident give my PC cooling that 3ghz should be a reasonable goal. I would be happy with this. I will compare systems best I can, however it won't be apples vs apples.
FX will ride the gigabyte board which I hope to vcore and cap mod.
3800+ will ride A8V when back from RMA. Both will have 1GB ram, yet to be determined depending on which set works best in each rig, but I have several to choose from(3-1GB dual packs of Mushkin Level II, 1- 2x512mb PC3500EB OCZ, 1-2x512mb Hardcorecooling.com PC3500 BH-5 dual pack, 1- Mushkin Level One PC3200 CH-5).
Video cards will be main 3d factor differnce in rigs. One should have an X800(hope to mod to XT) and one will probably have a vanilla 6800 card).
So what does this all mean, well maybe if I have enough time I will put faster vid card in each system run a few tests at same fsb and mhz level and ram speeds and lay cards on table. Keep in mind this will probably be 2 weeks from now that I can do this AND I use UNTWEAKED Windows XP, DX9 etc....
It will be too much of a PIA for me I think to swap cpus into a certain system for more standardized testing. But if any of this information might be helpful to someone lmk and I will consider doing these tests. But keep in mind the limitations of my testing and what it means to you.
thanks
First, socket s754 is not dead and I agree that there isn't a super mb for s939 yet. The giga is good, but I have doubts about its overclocking potential. Hopefully one will come out soon.
Klngpln, I have no doubt that when you crank up your epox and run at a 11 multi you'll kick some major but with that.

I dont see the 3700 on these graphs`?
i dont think anyone was argue'n if it was a hell of a gaming chip or not. Just its performance in 3dmark01se due to heavily cache dependant tests with top of the line cards. In actual game'n this chip rips, 67fps average in farcrybench at 233x10 at 1600x1200 res and my x800pro vivo modded at 500/540. CoD and NWN play flawlessly at 1600x1200 also(only 3 games i play).
I remember see'n that review just before the s939 chips came out, so they either didnt have a 3700+ yet or didnt include it. Judge'n from the diffrence between the 3400+ clawhammer and the 3500+ i'd say its virtualy even with the 3800.
He's not serious about the dead thing, just having a little fun. By the way, I noticed the drivers you are running. Just one of the many variables I was talking about. I'm still gonna beat you this Saturday.;)Quote:

Kingpin...well said. That's all I've been telling these guys all along. I never said S754 is faster than S939, just the S939 is not worth the money right now because the Newcastle stuff is slower than S754 and the FX-53 S939 can't OC well without a good motherboard, something that so far does not exist.
I think OPP is planning on doing some S939 FX-53 stuff within the next month or so, but it won't be real soon. I think I know what motherboard he's going to use also, but we'll see.
Yep, just get OPP to let you use his cascade
Nope, don't need a cascade to hit 35k. Just a couple of vmods and some tweaking should do the trick.

maybe a gallon or two of LN2
I was joking , 754 isn't dead of course but 939 is born :toast:Quote:

we have proven it can roxx
now it's time to see high performance
No, I quit drinking LN2. It gave me headaches!:DQuote:

haha
i ve got 3500+ X800pro and 6800GT to bench
3500+ 11X259 : 28.4K with stock X800PRO
impressive with a stock x800pro. I get a tad less at 260x10 and my x800pro vivo modded at 520/560 with 16 pipes and only just over 29k at 540/570.
