DFI users - want a GOOD BIOS???

The 4-table version of 5-05 with 1-21 tables is working great for me. Not a single problem here. I have yet to find a BIOS that would allow me to go over 250 FSB stable, but hey I can live with 250.

edit: well actually this one is so far stable at 252 FSB. Prime, warcraft 3 (most demanding test ever!). Will try higher FSB soon.

edit: 1-21 ROMSIP 6 table version is just as good so far. 252 (tight timings) is the limit for me. Still 2MHz more than any other BIOS. No problems whatsoever.

Dumb question, but is there a possibility of a bios that will post at a given FSB, then "scale" up while still posting (visible on screen via clock speed multi/fsb) to another preset FSB?

4/29 worked wonders on my Infinity.

With 2x512mb TwinMOS/Winbond PC3200 I couldn't even get past 208~MHz FSB with timings of 6,2,2,2,2,13,15,e,e,f,e even at 3.3v. This was the case with all BIOS up to 4/29.

Now I'm at 220MHz with the same timings and voltage, and totally stable :)

well started to get p@#$%d with the quirks of this board and flashed to the 505-c18 modded bios and all i can say is WOW!!! this is now an enitrly new board very stable and no more 4leds of doom, all i can say is thanx to EvilouS and now i'm thinking why the hell DFI couldn't do this themselves.....???

Hey m8!

Don't use TRAS 6, use 11 as it's the most stable. I can't even boot into windows at 6 using 255MHz fsb!!! Bluescreen, nice and fast...
At TRAS 10 I get lockups after some time, 11 and up is perfect.

Maybe that's cause of some instabilities too.

Hey. Mate, I can definately recomment the 6tbl version, as I was priming (and still running) the whole night at 12x255MHz and under 2V ;) Really stable and fast :thumbsup:

I will gladly beta test any bios for peripheral dropping, I get it in less than a minute :) so even the slightest mistake = BAM

Could dropping devices and/or "240fsb" stability be related to tRAS, or maybe we should all start trying to use dividers to see if running the ram higher or lower while letting the NB run high/low has an effect?

Divider will very likely corrupt your bios!!! Beware.

thats a given, but would it be worth it to play and see if its a timing issue?

i flashed to the 5/5 121 bios and my comp wont boot up now. everything lights up.. fans spin.. cd-rom drive opens.. but I get nothing on my monitor.

I tried what u said SAE (usinng pc2700 ram) but it doesnt seem to work either. any ideas?

Hmm. What LED is lit? 4th? That's what I had. And the pc2700 samsung helped. Weird. If you get all leds lit... try to power it off, hold down ower till every cap is unloaded...

Then switch psu back on, hold down onboard reset and hit onboard power, still pressing reset. Further hold down reset for 20seconds or more, then let it go.

That's what worked with the 4LED issue for me. If it still does not boot up, clear cmos for a while. And repeat the procedure I was describing...

The 5-5 rs12-18 T6 you sent me is great. Faster than the 1-21 T6 and for stability it's gonna be tested now :D

As I already said, I did not test for sound drop. I would but then I would have to play Splintercell PT a bit and I know it would not be only 30minutes but 4-5hours of gaming in the end ;)

well my Infinity only seems to have 1 LED light. its red and its always lit up.

Er, the Infinity has a standby LED at the bottom and the RAM lED at the top. SAE is talking bout the other sister, the LPB. Did you try the 2700 in different slots? Keep doing a full CMOS clear and give the ho bout 5 minutes in between after you pull out the battery. Hold down INSERT and hit power switch. Repeat if it doesn't work. takes some where between one and a hundred times.

Hamster, I'm guessing you don't have a BIOS savior? I know that you know that there is about a 30% failure rate for either the 4/29 or 5/5 Betas. You should have know better then to flash these risky BIOSes w/out a backup plan.

Ok, buddy enough with the lecturing. Try the following things:

1) Hold the INSERT key while powering up and see if it posts. If it does immediately load "optimized defaults". If you get the black screen again after it reboots, kill the power, wait a few seconds, hold the insert key again, power on, and load a CMOS Reloaded profile or latest Auto Backup.

2) If the above fails then you'll need to do this:

a) Kill all power
b) Remove the battery
c) Press the power switch on your case a few times
d) Clear the CMOS for a couple of hours

Since your mobo (or more specifically - your config) is one of the unlucky ones that can't use the latest Betas, I would wait until Oskar releases another one that fixes whatever is causing the bad flashes.

Good news indeed. I think the 6 Table RS mod may be the winner. I'm still testing the 6 Table 1/21 RS and it does indeed behave like the original 1/21 BIOS w/ no audio/LAN drop. As far as performance, I would say 1/21 < 12/18 < 1/31. But 1/31 is the most unstable of them all.

I have sent out Infinity versions of the T6 mod to a select few and hope to confirm some things. If they are positive, I will upload them for anyone that wants to try. Thanks for the update SAE:toast:

I just started testing the bios versions, the T6-18 is FAST! wow, I got 20,600 stock on my 9800 pro :) @ only 2800mhz, thats +420 points faster than my previous bests(using directx9b and catalyst 4.5)

I am currently testing for peripheral drops, but Its been an hour and there hasnt been any, and normally it drops in less than 10 minutes

Then of course I will test 1-21 and 1-31 :)

*EDIT* 3 hours, gaming/music/priming no peripheral drop on 12/18 T6 EXTREMELY impressed, this is the only non 1/21 romsip bios I have ever used that WORKED for me, I will prime overnight and report back in the morning, tomorrow I will do 1-31 all day, as I am sure the 1/21 bios wont have any issues with my board

*EDIT 2* One hardlock playing games, @ 1.7vdd, raised to 1.8 seems to alleviated any chance of that ever happening again

What ram did ya try? I hope it's not bh-6 or other winbond ics? If you get a hold on samsung/infineon ram, try that... or pc4000 high latency...

Oh please please be another option for us 1/21 users. My new Taiwan board is even mopre funny with other bioses than my China board!

On my China brd I could at least disable CPU disconnect and my LAN would stop crashing. On the Taiwan brd disabling CPU disconnect doesnt stop the LAN from crashing, and not just that I also loose usb and sound with anything other than 1/21 bios.

I wouldnt mind to test some of these alpha bios's (based on 1/21 romsip) so i f someone would like to email me one i wouldnt mind testing

Listen mann u just got to do the processes the peeps have explained over and over again, your mthbrd WILL come back alive again, persistence is the key.

Even having another pre flashed bios may not help you, as i discovered the other day. I had the same problem, thought id damaged the mthbrd when i took it out my case, thought id damaged one of the vmods i had doen on the board. Testes all the vmods with multimeter, eveything was ok, but as you i would power uo but have no boot, fans, led on, hard drive making initial noise but no boot.

Switched bios chip, again no boot. No I just did the process others have mentioned above over and over again, switching memory, taking out cpu, replacing with other cpu, try diff gfx card, clear cmos, pull battery, power down PSU, swtch ram again, try to power up with resest switch, try to power up straight from PSu switch. Mann as u can see teh combinations are endless.

All i know is i hammered it for over an hr, until i got a line which went along the lines,

'error cheching EEC parity blah blah blah'

On one line on a black screen, but at least my monitor had powered up so i knew it wasnt electrical. I kept doing the same thing another 20 minutes, till eventually the mobo decided to wake up!!!

I can recommend the rs12-18 t6 version from Adv, and the rs1-21 t6 so far. But it's the LP B versions... could send them to ya, they'll work, but you decide :D
