It's just a better grade of paste...not solder like the 2011 chips. As I understand it, it's roughly equivalent to the Ceramique paste. Better, but still crappy (compared to solder)...:)

The proper way to get around it would be to pick up some of the solder that Intel uses and do it yourself...;)

many have tried, very few have come close, and afik nobody has succeeded. it might be a better idea if intel released a sku that didn't come with the heat spreader at all, and also carries no warranty.

4.8ghz isn't "bad" at least. Ivy gave me issues & I never could get any chip beyond 4.6ghz on air, regardless of voltage.

I guess my 2600k @ 5ghz is just a golden. I was hoping 5ghz would become more common place as time moved on. I guess we're getting closer to that. Maybe 5ghz is attainable for WCers?

4.8 ghz is dream, only 2 percents of all 4790K will be rock stable on 4.8 GHz on air

I think the same now :(...Very hard to get 4800 MHz for Cinebench, I tried it one day and the best was 3/4 of render scene :).
