They do the experiment twice...once with the stock NB cooler, and afterwards with the vapo on it. Ofcourse the cpu would survive it when it goes from ambient to -196° , and then back to ambient. In fact the cpu would survive it that much so it could be used again for an ever bigger oc.

The biggest joke is the censoring of the cpu string :toast: very funny

The CPUID string was not censored, it shows as a normal Northwood core. Only the part where it would say "3.4Ghz" was blacked out.

Tom also stated that it was NOT STABLE past 4700mhz. That was the limit for stability.

Its also funny how its been stated that CPU's that cold will not function properly.....thus macci keeping his base temp at -120c...so how can they say their base temp was -190c and the CPU still working fine?

Has anybody been reading that thread on that german board that was previously linked? The babel fish translation isn't the best, but when I ran across this I was kind of confused...

The translation that I get is that somebody was sort of searching through THG's site and stumbled onto this pic, and then it was deleted shortly afterwards. I can't figure out if this is a pic that THG has drastically altered (I mean 13ghz???) or if it has been altered by somebody else after the fact.

cool, pretty nice work. Although its just a tiny bit disappointing that asus modded it for them.

Well, my source on a cheap EE fell through. So now I don't know whether to just grab a retail one for $900 and sell it when finished for $750....or to wait a month and grab a 3.4 Prescott. I REALLY wish I had a source on an ES EE with high multi's. I dream of 19x or 20x 250 1:1 or so...
I want to try LN2 on the GPU also... but will have to make a new container similar to yours :D. I think I have an idea with the "drip" concept! Here's the top of my dewar...I have two flanges on top. I'd like to fit one flange with a tube and a valve turned 90 degrees down. I'd like to place a probe on the baseplate and adjust drip rate to maintain a reasonable temp (-120C or -150C or whatever) kinda like this

Would be a good idea, but I no longer have that cooler :( It was just a tester :D SO....I have NO phase change, just a big dewar and a LN2 dealer a half hour down the road! If my auto drip worked on the CPU, I could get a friend to work the GPU pour and I could bench...phewwwww!
If GPU's OC like CPU's with cooling...630 on -50C phase change, well on -150C LN2??? 670?

And THG is in the same building as intel corp in Munich.

I'd bet too that this was a hand picked processor - if not even an unreleased sample, maybe one of the batch where intel pulled those IDF showcase processors from (5 Ghz).


I don't trust them too much, even the vapo on the northbridge seems not attached properly, there needs to be much more pressure than those small band could provide.

And yeah, without even the stability to run benchmarks or loosing to an AFX @ 2900 Mhz doesn't make it better .... but they could not publish it in this case, imagine what would happen to p4 performance when all world would know that 5 Ghz will be smashed by an A64 ...

Just one note; (from someone with 0 experience with LN2, mind you, so don't take this as gospel) keep the barrel as low as possible, you don't want the air heating up the LN2 on the way down and turning it into vapour. :D :p:
