A few questions for the group.
I have a P55A-UD4P with F6 BIOS and really liking it so far. I'm OC to 3.8GHz and will be shooting for 4 or 4.2 soon.
Per the manual, I understand that if SATA3 and USB3.0 are set to PCIe Gen 2 then the primary PCIEX16 slot will run at X8 and I can verify that with GPU-Z.
Using a Radeon 5850, am I being limited by the X8 bandwidth? The manual says that I can disable TurboSATA3/USB 3.0 in the BIOS, but mine is defaulted to AUTO with no option to change it, it just skips over that line when tabbing.
So far I tried disabling both the GSATA Contoller (SATA3) and the USB 3.0 option, they're separate lines and disabling both still leave the TurboSATA3/USB 3.0 line on AUTO and my PCIE at X8.
Hard drives. I'm using a 150GB Raptor and a 500GB WD. Should I leave the PCH SATA Control Mode on IDE which is the default or change it to AHCI?

I don't think you're being limit by 8x at all. I'll bet once you get 16x going, if you bench both ways, you'll see no difference.
As for the locked out setting, I was on F5 and just updated to F6 to check, but my options for changing Turbo/SATA3 are unlocked and selectable. I tried plugging things into the GSata and USB3.0 ports, changing all kinds of config options trying to see if something would make it unselectable, but I can't duplicate your problem.
Have you tried resetting CMOS and see if that opens it up?

Boostedevo is on the money. In the most extreme of instances, such as filling every possible port and slot with USB 3.0 and SATA3 drives while pushing SLI, have I seen the ports slow down a bit. But, let's be realistic. How many folks are going to be running a video game while saving/writing to their USB3.0 and SATA3 devices? You'll have to create a rather unrealistic setting. :)Quote:

Very safe! Nothing to worry about! Even the old sockets won't show any CPU issues at 4GHz 1.36vcore. You'll have to go much, much higher than 1.45vcore before anything starts to show up.Quote:

Check GIGABYTE's Taiwan download page for the P55A. I think they have a few new ones that I need to go up on the original post. Otherwise, I was able to hit 4.2GHz with the Core i5 661 with Auto settings. I'm predicting similar maximum overclocks compared to previous Core 2 Duo, but not the same gained increases.Quote:

as of now, for ram overclocking i can go to as much DDR2133 when i use my other ram kit with 2133MHz XMP profile,
but fully stable at only 2100MHz, this's about it on my chip, other chips IMC could be better.
however, right now memory timing in Windows is still a mess.

Guys, if I'm on a budget and am adamant with Crossfire, should I stick with the P55A-UD3? I save at least $40 by going with that solution. I'm not convinced that the extra capabilities including SLI on the UD4P is worth the extra money. I'm just looking for a board and RAM combination such as the G.skill Ripjaws to increase the odds that I'll get a 4ghz oc with the i5 750. So what should I do?
^^ Do not use the UD3 especially doing Crossfire, you will get 4x/4x only and that will bottleneck your performance. Your better off getting the UD4P for better results. And I heard Gigabyte's P55A boards when US3 and SATA3 enabled you will lose functionality of the second PCI-E slot and therefore SLI and Crossfire will not work. WTF? So there is another reason to avoid Gigabyte's P55A line.
I think I discussed this with you in another thread. I think Crossfire will work, but ultimately performance will decrease if USB 3.0 is used. I think it'll be fine because I'm not looking to benchmark the machine. I don't think performance decrease will be greater than 25%. I can live with it. The boards seem to have good reputations and that's why I'm somewhat locked into it right now.Quote:
