want to see 2 of these Cards under LN2 :D
do any of the reviews have a picture of the vapor chamber disassembled?
I found these pics, but I was hoping to see the copper chamber by itself (if possible)

The card has a very decent cooling solution it seems.
It really is just as good as 5870 to overclock by looks! :D
Great review btw, guys from Lab501!
ah thanks w1z. "magic smoke" lol.
The VAPORS!

Another review
If neither fermi or 5950 comes in Jan, 2010 i'll get myself this baby :)
Nice performance and eats less power than 5850 CF and is almost the same cost....
proper high res shot added

Such a monster AMD had to clock it down so it meet ATX spec (power draw) lol amazing.
It really needs a Tri-fan solution, too bad i compared the PCB picture of the 4870x2 vs 5970, my AC cooler won't fit.. doh.
The crave for more power in me wants to get this baby, but my EARS do not! lollll gotta love my silent X2
Is there a firm launch date? If there is, add 2 months to it before you can actually buy one. The 58xx launch was a joke.
anyone else think, all this complaining about how the 300W limit is hurting ati. why not just build a core designed to be around 150W and get better yields, and sell more cores, and keep a better GPU to GDDR speed ratios. its feeling like the 5800s were over powered and dont have very good balance between all the specs
I predicted this months ago, 5850 CF performance at 600 dollars.
If you look at anandtech review where they compare gtx 285 sli vs 5970, at the very most, the 5870 is 20 percent faster and at the very least, is 3 or 4 percent slower. However in most instances it is less than 10% (all except farcry 2 or 7 out of 8 gaming tests).

This card is fast but not that fast. If NV simply shrunk the Asus Mars card down to 40nm(which should negate the heat issues) and increased the clocks by 10% percent on the card and perhaps 10 percent on the shaders, it would have a card that performs nearly the same as the 5970 at this point using last gen technology.
If NV is able to make a card that is 5% faster than gtx 285 sli, it will have a card that is competitive with the 5970 in single gpu form.
If NV is able to get their clocks up so they atleast match gtx 285 levels, it should have a single gpu card that is competitive with 5970. Even in my post that came out when the 5870 was released, I stated although the gtx 380 might not be faster than the 5970, it could be competitive.
However if clocks are abysmal, this could be a problem, unless NV got their efficiency up.
It should have launched @ 1 ghz core 1 ghz mem.@ tajoh111 If nvidia does that ati will have lowered the price twice by then.:yepp:
Only a eyefinity bench with diff mem clks will tell us if we need more.
Wonder if Fermi will be competing against the 5 series or if ATI will be so far into the life cycle that people will stave off for the 6 series cards in may/june or w/e
Ever heard of CPU limitation? Your babbling
The 5970 is limited by the CPU, it cannot perform at 100%, even if OCed to the levels of 2 5870 because the CPU is to slow, even an I7 at 4.2ghz. We need 5Ghz Gulftowns really fast.
DX 11 games will show it's true potential since DX11 is finally fully multithreaded so it can properly use all the CPU cores.
This reminds me of 9700Pro vs FX5800. The FX 5800 held it's own decently agains the 9700 Pro in DX 8.1 games, but in DX9.0 games, it got decimated, even an 9600XT would out perform it.
Same situation here, the 5970 cannot show it's true force in DX9/10 games since the CPU is not properly used and also, the CPU is to weak for the card.
