Noctua has allways been focused on offering complete solutions. Yeah, if you take the fans and the NT-H1 off the package, the price will drop with ~30 bucks. But I do not think that is going to happen, since they have allways offered complete solutions. And...those fan do they work for a silent orienthed rig, and NT-H1 is a very good TIM.
What I am going to do is get it and sell the fans so that will help me offset the price.
Hopefully somebody would like to buy them.
the lack of info on the noctua site regarding the 775 board compatability is rather annoying
Ok here are some results from my testing on i5-750 @ 4,2Ghz 1,39V
MB: Asus P7P55D
CPU: Intel Core i5-750 @ 4.2Ghz (1.39V)
Coolers: TRUE 120 revC & Noctua NH-D14 & PT Megahlems
Fans: standard NF-P12 un NF-P14 & 2x Scythe DFS123812H-3000, Zalman ZM-F3
Thermal grease: Arctic Silver Ceramique
read software: RealTemp 3.00
Ambient temp: ~22C
Load: LinX 0.6.4

got to admit I used Thermalright bolth-tru kit for Megahlems with "20cent pressure mod" as I didn't have original mounting for s1156!

Why no fan in the middle of the Noctua?
I would think the original configuration of a fan in the middle is there for a reason.
Not that I care which one wins but just trying to get an idea of which one I want to get since it seems either is going to beat my Mugen 2 by quite a bit.
How do you think to put ultra kaze in the middle (38mm)? :D anyway ~130cfm is beast all ready in single fan config and if I put original Noctua fan in the middle between those ultra kazes @ push-pull it would only block airflow :shrug:Quote:

I was thinking that my Mugen 2 under that configuration should be about 2 C or so hotter than the True (if it has been lapped), so I am looking at some nice improvement by getting one of those beasts!
Thats a bit unfortunate. The Noctua suffers if you don't squeeze a fan between the towers. If you don't have 25mm Deltas you could try something from Silverstone, i.e. FM123, or a 2000 rpm Noiseblocker. 1900 rpm Slipstreams don't output over 100 CFM but closely to 80. And Ultra kazes 3000 rpm are around 100 CFM fans.
Any disappointed buyer willing to sell? :-)

Motherboards Loadline Calibation raises voltage under stress something about +0,05-0,1v and it was about 1.52v with those overclocked settings.
Stressed with IntelBurnTest high-setting 5-rounds and monitored temps with HWMonitor.

Your test is good altho I'd say AMD is probably still not the best testing platform because of the problems in reporting temperatures accurately. And since you were getting low 70s with the U12 I think you could've pushed your cpu further and bring in other fans.
Regarding xbit's test I still think their IFX is performing way better than it should and someone exchanging an IFX for a Noctua will have greater differences between them in similar setups.
Overall I think everyone will start to see that the D14 is quite a few degrees better than any heatsink previously tested.
Stupid UPS I won't get mine until Monday....I had so much hope of having some weekend fun....of well at least I am off Tuesday :-)
Don't mean to burst your bubble but I don't think you'll get a massive temp drop on your AMD rig compared to the Mugen 2. It seems that the Noctua really shines on high TDP output cpus.
No worries, I have been around a LONG time so no bubble busting here...this is what I like to do for fun, sometimes you get nice improvements, sometimes you dont...just part of the game, like when getting a new cpu hoping for a higher OC. :-)
also on a side note, i bet that u could use a "gutted" fan of 25mm to put in between in the middle and have the nearly the same results as 3 fans. Also i have seen as much as a 4deg c drop on my old school big typhoon by adding a 25mm spacer between the heat sink and my delta fan, it allows the air to flow into the center fins ALOT better instead of having the fans dead spot sitting right on the heat sink
Also if u c that a base is not flat, why in gods name would u NOT lap it? if u can c it with ur eye and a straight edge that is BAD imo, and can only make things worse once u throw in the "flatness" of the IHS

Odd...because I still find their reviews are more accurate and informative than most others I'm seeing these days. They may not always describe their reasons as well as they should. Otherwise the reviews are actually pretty decent.
Agree that hardocp review is complete garbage.
How about cooling that thing with 2 of those Deltas 220cfm fans, i belive they are something like 7000rpm
i belive they are called DELTA AUB0712HH or Delta GHE or Delta TFB?
Or would it just suck your memory's from motherboad in to fans? :D /jk /jk...
You will see something like that very soon. Unfortunately the space between D14's towers doesn't allow the use of a 38mm fan but the good news is there are a few decent 25mm Deltas. :)
